I might end up eating crow on this, but he is finally becoming what I always thought he was....

What would have happened had we had Gautreau in 13 or 16?

I think the jury is still out with him. He won the first two years with older teams that he didn't build and only one made a regional.

Really could go either way with him and next year is probably critical for him to stay off the hot seat.

Like Minge as a person, was surprised that UK hired him in the first place though. As someone already alluded to, they didn’t build a brand stadium just so they could go back to being one of the worst teams in the league. I think he gets one more year but if they still suck next year then he’s gone.

In a weird way, they seem to still be stuck in John Cohen’s shadow. He was their best coach ever, and when he left they hired his pitching coach which had mixed results. Then after firing Henderson they went for another protege. Oddly enough, Cohen didn’t even do as much at Kentucky as some want to think. Winning an SEC title there is a great accomplishment, but four of his five years there were nothing to write home about (they won the SEC in Year three of five).

Well... if Lemonis falls off a cliff after this built for Omaha team heads off to pro ball, I would take Cohen as head coach over most of his protégés. Maybe Lane.. maybe Butch and those are big maybes.

But dang I sure want a coach who is gonna stick for about 10 years with lots of success.

Indiana just won the Big 10 for the second straight year, which is a testament to his recruiting abilities. Couple that with his recruiting at Louisville which made them a top 10 program, and I think we have our guy for the foreseeable future. If you look at what his former players, coaches and folks that worked in the athletic departments with him say, you will see a very well liked guy. Cohen nailed this hire.

What the hell? Indiana finished 5th in the Big 10 last year, and never finished higher than tied for 3rd for Lemonis’ entire tenure there. Them winning the Big 10 this year is a testament to his recruiting, but perhaps also a negative testament to his coaching if he couldn’t do better with many of the same players last year (depending on how many returning contributors they had and such). Regardless of all that, he is going to be able to get the players here, and he has met expectations so far from a coaching standpoint. Let’s see how he does over the next 5 weeks, which is what really counts.
