After three games Will Grier is off to a good start as The Mountaineers QB. If he keeps getting better as I suspect he will. He could possibly challenge or break some school QB season records. Will G. Would need to pass for 4386 yards to surpass Geno Smiths season record of 4385 set in 2011. Possible? Yes if the offense can average 366-370 (estimate) ypg this season.

I, too, have high hopes for WVU under Will Grier, particularly with the supersonic speed of Marcus Grimm, the sure hands of David Sills, the running of Justin Crawford to keep defenses from dropping 8 back to cover the passes.

But I'm also realistic. Grier's numbers were superb against Virginia Tech, but East Carolina and Delaware State and probably Kansas will be the worst defenses he will face this season. So maintaining the 3-game averages, even though he sat out most of two second halves, will be difficult.

As usual, I care more about WVU's W-L record, and so does Grier, I suspect, than Grier's TD and yardage totals.

It's irrelevant to me whether WVU scores 40 points a game by passing or rushing or pick-6 interceptions or Grimms' kick returns. All that counts is that WVU has more points in every game than its opponent.

He will beat Geno's 2011 record if he stays healthy for two reasons

The Big East for all of it's grief played solid defense.

Our defense is not that good so we will constantly need to score through the air to either stay ahead or catch up.

We're going to keep him on the field more against the better teams and that's going to allow for major yardage.

Good points. And, the better the competition, the better WVU players have to perform. It still bothers me that Grier got sacked two plays in a row against Delaware State (one nullified by a facemask penalty), which couldn't beat The Little Sisters of the Poor.
