Will Dae'Quan Wright get the Sorsby treatment?

Save for public outcry, Sorsby would be suiting up for TTU this year.

There is a growing negative sentiment for Dae'Quan Wright coming back from the Cleveland Browns to play for LSU. Much like Sorsby, I haven't read/heard one opinion in support of it.

Finebaum rightly noted that SEC commissioner and ADs need to make a public statement in opposition to it. Of all the anti-college football moves in recent years, this is the most brazen.

Besides all of that, if you're Wright, don't you feel like a bit of a loser? "Well, I couldn't hack in the pros, so I'm gonna come back to college to compete against kids who were in high school a couple months ago."

Wright is thinking, "I can get paid to play football in college for a year or two and I can't get paid to play in the NFL".

This is pretty much the end of "college" football in my opinion.

Dan Lanning was asked about it and said for them to take a player at this juncture would mean cutting a player from the roster. A player who has been working to get ready all summer and who would not be able to go to another team to play for this season.

For some reason, I see the commissioner just sitting this one out. Maybe its just pessimism, but I think there's a point where we're just throwing up our hands and saying F it.

Aren't we doing the same thing with the former App St player we just brought in?

Borderline. I don't think Ethan Johnson ever actually played in the NFL like Wright did. I think he signed a UDFA deal though? Not sure about the latter.

If a player slipped in the draft or failed to get drafted, I wouldn't have a problem with a player deciding to come back if they didn't sign an NFL deal. Just allow them to withdraw. This used to be done in the NBA back in the 90s. The NBA has revamped that rule some to allow players to work out for teams and test the waters, but they have a date where they have to withdraw if they don't like their stock. However, signing, going through OTAs and games is a little too far IMO. However, I don't blame the players. We have executives on the professional and collegiate levels that have not been visionary. The lawyers and players are thinking ahead of them.

My thoughts exactly. I think they should be able to even go to the combine and receive a draft grade. And these days, if you receive a 5th or lower round grade, you might be more likely to comeback and improve and make more anyway through NIL than you would with a late round or UDFA contract.
