This is obviously excluding a miraculous NCAAT run (wont happen though). But do you believe he will be the coach next year? I'm leaning towards no. I just think it would be best for both parties to separate. He had one of the best runs ever at UK but I think it's safe to say the game has passed him by. It's sad because some of his teams were so fun to watch...now they are just mediocre at best. I appreciate what he did here...but I think it has to be over. I just dont see why UK would want him back...and also I dont see why Cal would want to come back either into a toxic situation (of his own doing)
We have the number one recruiting class.

He will be back laughing all the way to the bank! Must be nice to be employed and not have any stipulations. Mr. Guaranteed! Thanks Mitch!

$9 million reasons he is back next year and $33 million more he is back for 3 more years after that. Cal AIN'T walking away from that kind of cash.

He is already recruiting kids in the 24 AND 25 classes. He's DYING to get some redemption from the BBN for the CRAP SHOW he's given UK. He would LOVE to win another title then leave us wanting more. However, he is too stubborn to make the changes needed to get there.

He's become an old salty curmudgeon!!!

I think he stays one more year to coach Wagner and company.

One last hurrah. He rides the Freshmen as far as he can and then walks away from UK.

Cal will be back on the sidelines next year. But he won’t be coaching

Practice is just shooting drills with a time clock

Games are just yelling at players and refs

Neither of those are coaching

I say yes, and hopefully it is his last. Cal
has plenty of reason to return ($$$) and UK is in a terrible position because of Mitch.

I really think deep down Cal doesn’t believe this mess is on him, so don’t expect him to act or do anything differently.

We will get Tommy Lloyd and we will never have a year like Louisville had. Tommy Lloyd’s rebuilding year at Arizona as a first time head coach he got a one seed, and I’m his second year he’s on the 1/2 line.

Dream scenario, Cal speaks with Mitch, is allowed to go into the ambassador role a year early, talks the kids in the class into staying on board, Kentucky hires Tommy Lloyd, 38 win final four first year.

It’s unrealistic but that’s my dream transition to the next coach.
Cal is 7-10 years away from retirement and he’s not getting a victory lap tour like ratface did

I think he has shown frustration. Being excited at a job in a particular year or about a prospective season as a coach are two different things.

I think Cal seems pissed at how this season has gone and is probably perplexed. I don't necessarily think that means he doesn't want to be here.

We all go through periods in employment when we are unhappy. I love my job as a whole but I can promise you the past week has left a poor taste in my mouth- if someone asked me a question about it I wouldn't be very chipper.
this isn't being a manager at Target. This is a calling, he is at the pinnacle of his career, and he doesn't have the luxury to not like his job , he has to be on it 24/7.

He openly talks about being relieved after a loss, about what he looks forward to other than being on the court coaching. That isn't perplexed or pissed.

If Cow has any sucess next year like an E8, I know sad that's considered success but when you havent won a tourney game since 2019 it will be viewed as such he will go right back to business as usual for years to come.

He's gonna have to be run out of here on a rail. Tarred and feathered.

Honestly, if anyone's interested in hiring him and they watch actual game footage of him, there's NO WAY he's getting hired. Especially not if they listen to his post-game interviews. He is a shell of himself, and far too wrapped up in things that are not what he was hired to worry about. It's time to depart.

He will be back and he will still be the same coach. He has lost the ability to motivate his team to play for the University of Kentucky.

His one and done and "players first" has finally crashed and burned. How many more years do we have to hear "they just wanted it more than us"

Yes, he will. That monster class will be his last if he can't do something big with it, though. And it may be his last either way. The only thing that changes this would be a huge run this season in the Dance, which is highly unlikely with our Jekyll and Hyde team. If they make a big run to a Final Four, it would buy him some more time. But I'm not holding my breath.

It’s not a monster class. It’s probably nothing more than a top 5-10 class in better classes over the last 15 years.

Truth. This is another hyped up class that has weaknesses opposing teams, especially the ones who have coaches superior to Cal, will exploit. Another 10 loss season is more a reality than a dynamite class that will lead to #9.

I just think some of you are having a really difficult time accepting the John Calipari is not the guy his marketing and early - mid career says he is. A lot of the problem is he is a genius marketer.

Calipari is a narcissist who believes he’s the most important guy in the universe. When he wasn’t being respected as such, he fought to wage war against the establishment. It’s why he followed Pitino around and came to Kentucky in the first place. Once he got that title, blue blood, and the contract, he lost that fire. It’s obvious. Let it be what it is.

He’s a still a narcissist with horrible personality traits. He’s a megalomaniac that wants war, but since he’s won the old fight, he’s turning it toward this program, it’s fans ect. And listen, it won’t get better. Calipari’s personality is war. He can’t get that from chasing the establishment anymore. He can’t get that from winning for UK anymore. Most coaches fight for their programs and their legacy, Calipari likes war to be the last man standing. He’s terrible.

He told you he didn’t watch film, he watched little house on the prairie. He told he he didn’t care about the losses, he was ready to see the dogs. His players have told you he doesn’t care about winning. His AD had to come out and reestablish the fact that KENTUCKY’S PROGRAM is still about winning fist. Just imagine that for a moment. No excuses, just imagine our AD having to do that. What universe is this? It’s not just us, program administration see it too. And we’re paying because we trusted Calipari. Big mistake.

Hagginhall, it’s time to accept it. Try this, don’t call him Calipari. Call him Jim Franks who took the job in 2018. Apply his comments. Would you still be trying to make excuses? No.

The lack of preparedness is obvious when UK takes the court. He followed the same no game plan against Vandy he used a week after being embarrassed on Senior Night in Rupp. You don't lose on Senior Night in Rupp against Vanderbilt.

The opposing team is always better prepared no matter what their talent level. Because he is never prepared.

It’s really amazing that we still have fans that are having a hard time with this. I just cannot understand it. He has literally said he doesn’t game plan, his players have said he doesn’t care about winning, he laughs when we lose, and he thinks making the tournament is good enough. Our AD has to remind us our program cares about winning lol. We’re headed straight for Syracuse land if he’s not removed.

He should be fired, on the spot, no questions asked. I don’t understand anyone who’s okay with this. And I’ll never understand them. I think it’s nothing more than his marketing ability. Some just cannot see past his branding. He did really good at it.

I think he’s gone with the way he skips out of post game press conferences, talks about being tired, and just consistently poking at the fans!

Imagine the beach house trips, Miami in the summer, Hawaii, the beach trips with the team, having to coach for a few hours a week during the season, the master suites during recruiting trips, no office hours. The guy is tired y’all give it a rest.

Don’t forget the free 9 million a year that he gets! None of that 9 million has to be spent on any of what you mention above!

Fingers crossed next season is his last.
Next year is his last.. and it's probably for the best. Too many things he seems unwilling to change or address, and so far, we have 0 recruits for 2024. It's the perfect time for all parties involved.

I kind of hope he announces soon that next year is his last, so we can start to prep accordingly. That would be good f program to start recruiting a new coach. Actually.. kind of hope that this is how the school and Mitch does it.

Try your toes too, but you are absolutely right, he will be here next year

Yeah, final season before he does whatever he’s going to do next
When one looks at this whole thing objectively, it's clear Cal has used this program (in addition to becoming obscenely wealthy) to garner his own validation. He's turned it into his own little bubble of narcissism, where every time a future All-Star or All-American chooses to play for him, Cal gets a necessary stroke to his ego. This was very clear to me the night he broke down and wept at his HOF induction. You'll notice Cal hasn't been the same since that night when he was surrounded by about 40 or 50 former players, introduced by none other than Pat Riley and Larry Brown, at the HOF. For Cal, he had finally arrived.

He truly hasn't been the same since. His HOF induction also coincided with his One and Not Done 30 for 30, where Cal was basically vindicated and hailed as a game changer.

That was all he needed. Since then, he's padded his NBA All-Star stats (he has 10 NBA all-Stars total now, much more than Coach K had at Duke), and the explosion of guys like Murray, SGA, Fox, and Bam in the league has only added to his own inner satisfaction. For Cal, every time a Keldon Johnson or Julius Randle goes off for 30 or 40 in an NBA game, he finds his satisfaction there. He knows they chose to play for him. That's all that matters. He even said this a few months ago in January where he acknowledged that he's not about records, but more about "helping" these guys find their way and how his "legacy" will be defined by that.

He's used UK for his own private ego playground. If we win along the way, great, but that's not his #1 priority. His #1 priority is found in his NBA validation.

I say he's back next year for one last ride. But if next years squad is as shaky as all of his most recent teams especially with all their hype, It's going to get ugly with the fans.

It’s already ugly with the fans. At least the ones that have any sense. He is destroying our wonderful program that Rupp built and it doesn’t seem to faze him in the least. I still think this is his last year. That is why we are not hearing anything about recruiting in 2024. I think he announces as soon as we lose in the tournament. Fingers crossed he leaves even if we win the whole thing. He is far past his expiration date.

The Texas gig was a possibility at one point and no longer is . There’s just nowhere for him to go right now . Georgia Tech? He’s not sitting out with this class signed
