4A Wilkes Central 7-1 @ 2A Starmount 7-1
23 October 2026

This game should decide who takes the Mountain Valley. Who thought the Eagles would be at the top this year? They have had a great run. Last year was an unexpected runaway shutout for the Rams in Moravian Falls….don't expect that to happen this year for Starmount even at home, but it’s been a wild and crazy year! It is nice to see a competitive conference among the top players in the race, except Elkin and Ashe getting the bread crumbs. Looking foward to a good game Friday! 😁

Thank you Deana for the stats from Friday night, and the news of Rodriguez’ record-breaking night.

Honestly, last year was expected for Starmount and EW to trounce WC. This year could definitely be different. WC has confidence in themselves along with a few good athletes. Can the coaching get them over the hump?

Starmount SHOULD win but who knows what will happen. The way the conference has gone this year I don't think I would bet on it lol.

Starmount's defense isn't as good as last year. The offense is better but they definitely have some issues on defense. They're missing the defensive presence of Armstrong, Shore and Adams from last year. Hopefully Pardue can get everything worked out as good as possible, time is running out before the start of the playoffs.

Wilkes Central will not beat starmount
The ? Is can Wilkes Central offense score on Starmount defense at Starmount? Starmount defense at has allowed 34 points in 4 games at home. And Starmount defense on the road has allowed 107 points in 4 games. The last 2 away games 81 points. Starmount by 18

Wilkes Central doesn't have a QB like East Wilkes to squat down and hide behind the line and confuse starmount. We had wilkes Central beat with our starting RB/LB in shorts and blew it Friday night. The offensive play calling was great for us entire first half then we went to pretending #20 wasn't in shorts and would run the same unsuccessful run play over and over again like he was in the game. Cramps also hurt us Friday night we had some of our starters miss a few key plays cramping. If #20 would have played we would have beat wilkes Central in my opinion. Hoping we have a bounce back week vs North Wilkes Friday. Go Trojans! Loved the effort so far this season by our team!

No disrespect…. But has any team just beat Alleghany…if this happened…. If that happened we would’ve won…we lost because of this or that…i mean at some point you lose because the other team made better adjustments along the way..

Yeah starmount beat the hell out of us. Lol Was not using my tidbits as excuses...but the fact of the matter is when one of the best players on any 2a team doesn't play that's a huge disadvantage for that team...I'm sure u take it as an excuse but its just facts. Was just giving my observations of the game granted they are through green and gold colored glasses. Wilkes centrals offense is not complex at all starmount will have no trouble stopping them in my opinion. We shut them down completely in the first half and we just seemed to get wore down in the second half...not sure Wilkes Central made that many adjustments other than at times would run hurry up offense but it was same plays as first half we just couldn't stop them in the second half.

It's hard not to say if this or that happened we would have won. When the game is really close and can go either way. East Wilkes could have easily beat us last week if the QB didn't run the ball for them on 80 percent of the plays and was limping around...see i can make excuses for other teams too when we beat them lol

The conference is really even this year with the exception of poor elkin and ashe and I've enjoyed watching competitive football this season.

We will see this week. The Trojans should handle North Wilkes, and of course Elkin easily next week. Looking back, I still expected the Rams and Trojans to be closer, and that said, the EW Cards & Rams to be en par with last years result instead of scoring at will. It’s like Starmount and East Wilkes’ defenses didn’t even show up that night. Wilkes Central seems to have the toughest schedule to finish out. Good luck to the Trojans!

Tonight at Starmount can Wilkes Central offense be able to score any points on Starmount defense? Time Will Tell. Starmount at home have only giving up 34 points so far this year.

Not sure what to expect with this game. Does Starmount have any injuries? I know 0 has been injured lately. Is he gonna play?

Honestly not sure if defense is the calling card lately for the Rams. It’s Deuce and how he makes that offense roll!

I wouldn’t question the performance against West Wilkes. Shutting them down twice near the goal line, and blocking a field goal attempt early to keep the Blackhawks scoreless. Not bad. They need to come out tonight wound up and loaded!

but the next week you guys give up 30+ and are on the ropes against North Wilkes…. No one seen that coming… but honestly looks like only two very lackluster teams in the conference this year. So yeah Rams did have a great defensive game plan for West Wilkes indeed!💯

The Ram defense did what it was expected to do, at the right times. Forcing more than one advance on 4th down by the Eagles, forcing two fumbles, two interceptions…..one by Rodriguez on a crucial scoring drive by Wilkes Central in the end zone when he returned untouched 100 yds for a thrilling Ram touchdown. I wasn’t exactly disappointed!

I was impressed by the size and speed of the Wilkes boys. Looked like college players. Their speed put consistent pressure on Best to complete plays. If Wilkes Central doesn’t make it further in the playoffs this year, they should be disappointed in themselves! Of course they will have to contend with powerhouses like Hibriten. Best of luck!

If he has not yet he will be soon! Dude is really good at basketball too! Also just a junior.
Yeah, I'm not sure how a 6'3" receiver averaging 27.5 yards per reception isn't getting some traction. Add in multiple special teams touchdowns and multiple pick sixs, being one of the best fg kickers and punters in the area, you would think D1 coaches would be knocking on the door. He averaged 15 and 4 in basketball as a sophomore. Athletes like that don't grow on trees.

I love to watch him play! He is truly an athlete. Kicker, punter, receiver, safety, and he even subbed QB on some plays, I think it was the Alleghany game. An amazing gift and awareness of playing ball, whether it’s on offense or defense!

I think Deana has mentioned it before but he has to be one of the best athletes in 2A when you consider all he does for the team and positions he plays, his speed and jumping ability and then being great at other sports too. He's really good at baseball too and I'm not sure he even still plays it.

College offers aren't what they were a few years ago. Most colleges aren't going to offer until senior year and you better be GOOD, like ready to play at the college level good. Too many kids in the portal for college that already have playing time at that level, so not only are high school kids competing against all other seniors across the country, they're competing against all players in the portal that have anywhere between 1 and 5 years already at the college level.

It is sad but nobody is coming to a small 2A school to look at kids anymore. Especially with how the portal is now of days. College coaches can go get a kid out of the portal that has already been in a college program understands the system and does not have to put as much time towards them as they would an 18 year old kid. The kids have to be the ones to go to the camps, put up the numbers Infront of the coaches and get their film out to coaches.

Not at all how it should be but that is the world we live in now.

Pre 2020 he would have every D2 team already offered him in the area and low scholarship offers to some FBS teams.
