To gear up for her 2020 run?

I told her to go make me a sandwich.

I'm guessing something to do with a health issue, or missing out on too much pecker at home.

Her letter mentioned not allowing complacency in cabinet positions (something to that effect anyway). If that’s the reason, she just shot up on my opinionater, and she was already scoring pretty high to begin with.

I heard Chris Cillizza talking about this today. He didn't guess what the reason was, but he did point out some possible explanations. He said it could be personal reasons with one kid in college and another about to start college. He added that she hasn't really profited from her time in office. The family has a significant mortgage, additional debt, and the combined income of the household in her 2016 financial disclosure was $170k. She may be taking time off to boost income over her gov salary.

Regardless, it's all speculation anyway.

Pretty reasonable explanation. Hard to stomach her obsequiousness toward the family during the press event.

Perhaps she realizes like a lot of people that the Trump admin is in fact doing really great things for our country right now.

It could be burnout. I've noticed over the years that seems to be a short tenure job. There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes that don't involve sitting in the General Assembly, especially if you represent a major power.

If you're from a minor country, it's a long term all expenses paid shopping trip with free booze, drivers, and flushing toilets. All in a wondrous place where the opposition doesn't take potshots at you while you're trying to take a dump.

Gotta make a buck
One theory that circulated quickly was that Haley simply needed money. It’s a well-known reality that lots of ambitious people take high-profile government jobs with the expectation that a payout will come after. Scores of former DC officials leave for lobbying jobs and television gigs. Some become consultants. Others, who have enough clout and resonance, get lucrative book deals.

Most of Trump’s senior-level appointments came from the private sector and are independently wealthy. Haley, on the other hand, has spent much of her adult life as an elected official. As South Carolina governor, she and her husband reported an income of $170,000 in 2015, according to CNN.

But in a 2018 financial disclosure, Haley reported a number of debts, including between $25,000 and $65,000 in credit card debt, and a mortgage of more than $1 million. Money Magazine estimated her debt could range from $525,000 to $1.1 million. Haley also has two children — one of whom is in college with the other on the way there.

Some have suggested that Haley may have been inclined to leave her life as UN ambassador for a seven-figure salary and other opportunities in the private sector, where she could clear her debts in short order.
