He can play 4 games and still redshirt.

He may also see the field in the second half of the year at safety because Lee looked like he was playing with cement in his shoes.

Four games isn't very many, and if he was only in for a special teams play late in the game, that's pretty much a waste of one of those games. If they're considering redshirting a freshman, make sure any snaps are meaningful.

If true, why?

I recall there was only one kick off return by either team all day. Was he in on that play that got returned ? I'm asking because I wonder if there's no return if that counts as an official play

Every kickoff counts as a play. He was in on the fumble play. Apparently the coaching staff wants him to play. Let the coaches decide who redshirts.
