We aren’t a good basketball team. We might turn out to be in a month or so but right now we are bad.

We are hard to watch. It's as simple as this, either we start hitting the same exact type opportunities we missed in the first, or we continue missing and get blown out. Expect zero schematic adjustments at halftime. Ive largely stayed out of basketball commentary this season, but we could really use a motivator and instructional coach. Let's see if the other basket is more kind.

Perry is never going to be consistent shooting until someone gets the ball out of the palm of his hand

If a team that has spent the last 13 weeks in the top25 is bad, then what do you call the 45th team out of 347 D1 teams?

What major schematic adjustments are needed?
The offense looks better when the team makes 3pt and ft shots.
The offense scheme got us a bunch of open shots and to the foul line a ton. Missing the front end of 1n1 is even worse too.

Here is the new offensive scheme- make more shots within the already established offense.

When your fundamentals are as bad as ours, it's hard to know where to start. It's more of a commentary on how we lack adjustments throughout any game. If it's an iffy night shooting, game over. Playing a little defense wouldn't hurt either. Watching our game kinda reminds me of a weird uncle showing children the coin out of the ear magic trick....a little misdirection, watch this hand and with the other, a quarter gets pulled out of someone's ear, except instead of an uncle with slight of hand, is bama with the ball in the paint, everyone collapses, and the coin gets pulled out of the ear with a free dunk or uncontested layup from a man running free. It's been like that for a while, but I digress.

Again, his bitching has nothing to do with the outcome. Our teams ft's tho.....if they spet the same amount of time practicing ft's as we do bitching, we would be walking out of Tuscaloosa with a W.

Lay-ups and FT’s ain’t cool.

This.

Many basketball players would rather make cool plays (e.g., break ankles, dunk, fancy dribbling, etc.) than make layups/free throws and win the game.

My high-level formula for winning basketball games: put the ball through the hoop (I don't care how it gets there) and stop the other team from putting the ball through the hoop (I might even use a zone defense and occasionally switch up my defenses during a game).

Lamar tweeted that they will give Better effort Saturday. My question is why can’t you just give effort 2 times a week. We play 2 times every week. How F’n hard is it to get up and play hard twice a week? It’s literally the only thing they do all week.

Watching this Group of individuals is like watching the movie Ground Hog Day.

I don’t get in on the basketball complaining but the lack of the extra pass, defensive toughness, and trying to take the hero shot instead of the hero pass...tell me that we are weak on fundamentals and even with the talent we have... we aren’t scheming to beat teams. We are trying to beat individual guys.

I’d make them attend a girls practice and run like vic makes the girls do. We have a load of talent and don’t know how to get them the ball. How many times does someone need to scream “follow your shot” to these guys. These long threes when no one is down low are terrible for the whole team, because the guys don’t get in position thinking that they aren’t gonna get the pass, so then they don’t even get a shot at a rebound.

Someone needs to make fundamentals fun, again.

If im Cohen I’m asking Vic if he’d be interested in coaching the men’s team next year. He might not be but I’d at least peak his interest. I love the way our girls play. They actually run an offense and play defense. Nothing against women’s basketball but I think the majority of our fan base would rather have a top 5 men’s team rather than a top 5 women’s team.

Not sure if this is a serious question, but as an athlete one has only so many A+ performances. And to expect such multiple times a week for months is unrealistic.
Tapers in sports is a complicated premise and requires lots of patience and organization. Really good teams peak at the right time (for bball, March) and most teams rely on hindsight to learn. Peters' tweet was probably just a self-reflection of sorts and should not be read that much as to what he really meant.

This sums up the main issue with this team. They don't seem to understand that at this level they have to bring max effort every game or losses will come.

They are talented, skilled and experienced, but their effort can be sporadic and their execution lazy and simply not intelligent.

Their # of wasted possessions for a team with this level of experience is inexcusable. They simply do not value the basketball enough to reach their potential, which should be Top 10, but likely won't be. I hate it.

Fundamentals. We lack basic fundamentals as a team and it has cost us three games this season. We are so talented individually, we just need to come together as a team

I’m talking about effort. I’m not saying we should expect our guys to be on fire every single night shooting the ball. Sometimes you’re on sometimes you’re not. That’s basketball. I’m talking about playing with effort and not making dumb decisions. This team makes really dumb decisions at times and seem unmotivated at times. There’s no excuse for not being ready to play twice a week. We have 3 full days in between games to rest and recover. I partly blame howland for playing man to man the entire game. That’s asking a lot in terms of fatigue.

If Vic Shaefer had been coaching this team 4 years ago, today we would have at most, 1 loss (Kentucky).

Has he? No...why not? Because it's not his forte'. Totally different way of coaching. Even my limited grade school coaching with a son and a daughter. Coaching my son and his teammates, it was fairly simple for me. Coaching my daughter's team was a whole different animal. Girls and boys are different, utilize different skills, motivators, etc. Just the way a coach speaks to them is different.
I am not saying Vic is not a great coach, obviously he is one of the best in the women's basketball arena, just saying he has not proven he can coach men's teams. Much less an SEC team with as many issues as our team seems to have.
