Why not us?

We have the fans, facilities and talent level to win a natty. We’ve had them before. The last time we were in this spot it was pointed out that UCLA had accumulated some 117 national championships in various sports while MSU has had none. Now we are facing a Vanderbilt team that has a decidedly unfair advantage that they won’t own up to and they’re positioned to win their second straight natty.
So why is it that we can’t have the baseball gods smile down on us just once? The best fans in the sport deserve something to call their own. I don’t understand why it can’t be us… just once in my lifetime.

It highlights us all the more when the other "hard luck" teams manage to win Championships - Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, even Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (whatever the Hell a Chanticleer is) managed to win a College World Series.

I figured we were going to lose tonight, honestly, I like our chances tomorrow night, then let’s see what happens Wednesday

I don’t know how else to put it other than we’re just cursed. The fans, donors, and as of late, administrators do their part ten fold. Our teams can’t get it done, for lack of a better word. MaCleod was literally shaking up there. It’s going to cost us a championship. Unrecoverable. Vanderbilt is not shook at all. They’re playing stone cold baseball. Coaches should’ve pulled him after he hit the second batter. It was clear then he wasn’t up to the task. Just like we should’ve put Sims in in the first Texas loss. He could’ve pitched one damn inning and been fine. Poor playing and poor coaching. There’s no other takeaway than saying we just can’t handle the big stage.

I wished we could have pulled him that early, but damn… who has someone in the bullpen warming up while your starting pitcher takes the field?? We didn’t have anyone up and ready to go.

True but there’s not an easier sport’s decision any coach can make than seeing his pitcher isn’t ready. A QB can rally, anything can happen in basketball, but when a pitcher doesn’t have it, he just doesn’t have it.

We haven’t played good ball in awhile despite getting this far. The other night we needed 72 hits to score four runs against Texas. When was the last fundamentally sound game we’ve had??

We had a team of wanna-be hero’s swinging for the fences against UCLA and a pitcher that loses his mind against Vanderbilt. It really is that simple. We are the reason we don’t have a title. It is disappointing that we can’t play decent baseball when we get to the finals.

I get it. Just sick and tired of saying “aw shucks… we’re just happy to be here” and wonder when we get to hoist that trophy over our heads.

That's what I kept saying. The Taj Mahal of college baseball deserves a natty. Why not us? Why not now?

Hail State!
