I was listening to the Bill Simmons podcast the other day and he kept talking about a market inefficiency in college hoops where no team is really embracing the Rockets style of offense.

Hoiberg alluded to getting open 3s and shots at the rim making an offense the most efficient it can possibly be during his presser yesterday.

With 1 player over 6'10" on the current roster, why not launch 40+ 3s per game next year? Auburn is on its way to playing like this, granted with much better players, but I don't see a reason NU can't really embrace this, never shoot a mid-range jumper and see if we can't get hot during conference play. We'd at least force teams to game plan differently than the rest of the B1G.

Thoughts?

This is ultimately the brand of basketball Creighton has used for the past 10 years (at least). It can certainly be effective but gets exposed against more physical teams when the threes aren't falling. I think this hybrid system with a legit big guy is absolutely what can be effective. This is why Creighton had a really high ceiling when they had Justin Patton on their team because he could be relied upon to get that big hoop inside when needed. Worth noting, this system hasn't really broken through to an NCAA championship yet, but certainly gets teams to advance when you aren't blessed with 5 star talent... On any given night if the threes are falling, you can knock someone off.

well said. it's certainly not going to lead to an undefeated season, but working hard in the gym to get 3PT% up + one big rebounder/rim protector is a formula I could see working short-term for NU while the talent lacks, at least relative to the rest of the league.

We need to get some weight on Heiman and then get him to knock down some threes to keep defenses honest. IF we can do that, we'll win some games. Roby coming back would be huge.
