Why not go after the pirate Leach?

If he can win at TexasTech and Washington State then he surely can win at Nebraska especially in the Big Ten West. He has proven that he can recruit to isolated places and develops less heralded players. Plus the press conferences would be fun.

Sounds a lot like the argument people tried use to convince themselves Mike Riley was going to win at Nebraska. Don't get me wrong, I like Leach, but he's never really won anything in 18 years as a HC. He'd be good at certain schools. Not sure Nebraska would be one of them. Just my opinion.

Love, The Pirate. He's had success with his system at least 2 P5 schools now. That said, I'm on the Frosty Train.

How many conference or national titles have been won with an air raid offense?
This is it for me as well. I think he would certainly make for some interesting and entertaining games. That offense, when clicking can knock off teams from time to time, but it's just not an offense that is built for a championship run. Even when you look at Oregon, it took a much heavier dose of running and a Heisman caliber QB to pose a serious threat.

I don't put the "he doesn't know defense" stamp on Leach, as the Washington State defense is actually quite capable this season, but if it were me, I'd prefer a mobile QB that can also pass. Look at the last few national championship teams. Clemson - Watson. Alabama - Hurt, Ohio State - Was JT Barrett until injury then Cardale Jones. I don't think this trend is a fluke. This is another reason I think Frost is better suited, because I think he values a mobile QB in his offensive system.

Cause he's a jerk. The local media (that's Moscow/Pullman) deal with him because they have no choice. Being quirky and weird is fun for a limited time.

Cougs will put up with him as long as they believe they can win the Apple Cup with him as coach.

He actually has a really good defensive coordinator now at WSU. I think Leach could do pretty well here, but keep in mind that only once in his career has he won more than 9 games in a season. He seems to have that Bo Pelini 9-win ceiling.

I for one love his weird, sometimes cranky ways. I don't think our local media would have a clue how to deal with him, it seems they have figured it out in Pullman. Dude is funny while being cranky there

He does not do well "kissing the babies" and booster functions either.... my brother is a Texas Tech alumni and booster and said he would show up in cargo shorts and a old t-shirt at big events and come up to the podium and say "thanks for the money" and walk out.... he would not do well in Lincoln in his opinion.

He’s a winner, but not a BIG winner.

everyone is tip-toeing around the issue - he just does not run the ball enough. pure and simple

Correct were in the B1G not the Big12 any more or Riley's Pac 12 conference..

One thing is for sure we need to get back to being physical like we once were because this is what this conference is because of the colder weather...

He has roughly the same winning percentage as Riley did before he came here.

So we need to try to be just like Wisonsin and Iowa to beat them? Does that mean you aren’t a fan of Nebraska hiring Frost?

Their offense isn’t very physical and this year I believe they have thrown more than they have run, they threw 30 times in the first half alone against SMU. I love his approach to offense, but I do think some fans could be in for a shock (if we get him).

There are two sides to the ball...I want a defense that plays with their hair on fire and attach.

What? Leach is 121-79, while Riley was 93-80. And Leach turned around both program he’s been the HC at. Leach tuned 4 winprogram into 10 win programs, not vise versa.

True and UCF gets after it on D. It would be interesting to see what Chinander would do, he likes to move guys down and have a ton of speed on defense. Would he be willing to do it in the B1G or would he try to match up to the Iowa’s and Minnesota’s (one of Pelini’s biggest mistakes, imo).

Leach would look into the history of the state...like the deep history and embrace it.
What people don't understand about leach is he is a history nut. He'd eat nebraskas history up, both the state then the program. I think he would fit in, despite his crankiness.
Would he have championship results? I am skeptical.
Better than Riley I know that.

The heartland isn't ready for Leach and his antics. Could you imagine him giving a post game interview after a big loss and being Mike Leach? N is already the laughing stock of the B1G

He falls into the category of...so crazy it just might work.
But I can just picture us in the not-to-distant future saying..."What the hell were we thinking?"
Just doesn't feel right.

if nothing else, i think he'd be a scourge and we'd piss everyone off for bringing that style in the league...thats the biggest plus in my eye.

we already have qbs already ripe for that style, too.

And Bowden's teams were pass heavy too
Miami didn't beat us in 83 running the ball either
Those teams could pass, you’re right, but they didn’t go warp speed which puts massive stress on their own D because they are on the field so much.

I get the same feeling. Even though he's a definite upgrade from Riley. With his temperment and system, I'm not sure it's an experiment I want us to try here after all of our many failed ones already. I feel like, between the two, Frost is the safer pick.

Again, I like Leach (he'd definitely be better than Riley), but IMO he's in the same mold as the Glen Mason's and the Paul Johnson's of the world. Very good coaches, but better coaching at those "off the wall" places. Frank Solich very good coach at Ohio U, not so much at Nebraska. Craig Bohl...phenomonal at North Dakota State and pretty good at Wyoming so far, but I don't think he's Nebraska material. Again, this is just my opinion and how I see it. I could care less about his pirate gimmick, entertaining press conferences, and him being a funny guy. I want coach that's fully invested into coaching here and knows how important it is that this hire has got to work for Nebraska football. We are what Minnesota football became in the 1970's...irrelevant. Leach is not a guy I would have a lot of faith in to lead us out of this mess.
