Why not fire Riley now

I really don't understand what the point is in keeping Riley till end of the year. Fire him, start the process. Doesn't the HC position have to be posted for 2 weeks? So if we fire now would give a 2 week jump start and could possible announce new HC right after Iowa game.

Who's your interim? Doesn't help anything. Don't let Diaco get on the plane. It's pretty clear that there's a problem between Diaco and the rest of the staff. Can Diaco now because he's just not a non-factor. He's a negative factor.

Because, an angry knee-jerk management decision is what you expect from someone inexperienced and petulant like Eichorst, not from an experienced adult like Moos.

If it would have been after NIU maybe it would have helped but there is no point to do it now.

This ^^. By firing Riley, he would have to anoint someone as the head coach, hence putting more work on his plate. We just need to deal with it for two more weeks and let Moos contact his secret sources for our next head man. I truly trust the Moos in this one, he will get it right.

Does it matter? Go find a squirrel on the University campus and name it the interim. Probably get the team more prepared than this steaming pile.

The reality of our situation, while it may not help, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't hurt much of anything that isn't already hurting.

The only thing that concerns me is that we may be getting a whole bunch of "no interest" from the agents of our top picks. I'm afraid we may end up with a small school "up and comer" who isn't up to the pressure. We'll see soon.

word will come out the week before the Iowa game that it will be his last game. It will be an intentional leak and that will be that.

I'm asking the same question. Delaying the inevitable only prevents the staff from actively interviewing possible candidates, and just brings more uncertainty about the future of the program.

Disagree. Getting future asst coach salaries and contracts ready (among other things) is something you can start rolling after you fire Riley. Do it now, look proactive for once.
You can do that without firing someone. Secondly, it doesn't work that way, officially.

If we were to fire Riley today, our current recruits would probably decommit and start setting up visits in the next couple of weeks. I'm thinking Moos is trying to salvage what we have by keeping our head coaching vacancy open for a very limited time. For example, fire Riley on the 24th and name Frost or whoever by Dec. 1st. If recruits don't like it, so be it. If they were unsure, they only had one week of suspense as oppose to almost a month.

If he didn't do it today he's not going to do it before the end of the season.

I think you can also argue that you may save some recruits too - instead of 2 weeks of asst coach talks saying they’re going to be ok.

Time to be proactive.
The recruits know it's not going to last. What does being proactive matter when you can't give the recruits any information?

If they'll leave, they'll leave whenever.

Just because there's nothing happening on the surface, doesn't mean Moos isn't being proactive behind the scenes.

Exactly. Just more reason to make it permanent.
