Why no turnovers?

Should have had that one Int, but that's on the player. Improvement Will Happen And They Will Come.
Too busy getting sacks.

ehhh, they had a decent stretch, but they started off rough. Our CB's are as bad as we thought they would be.
7 sacks after only getting 14 all of last season. Would I have liked a turnover or two? Absolutely. In a rebuild, you gotta start somewhere and that's a great start all things considered.
Kept seeing those sacky things happening and was totally cornfused. Cool that we’ve added that play to the defense.
3 year starter at qb made really good decisions...colorado had less than 400 yards of offense...likely the last time all year...colorado played well, and is a well coached team...if you play a lot of experienced qbs you aren't going to force a lot of turnovers...it is a VERY important stat, but is more indicative often of your competition...had we played an overmatched opponent with a freshman qbs..maybe we get 3-5. This team needs to learn to win and have confidence in themselves...only way to do that is to play and eventually win games like this.
I'm not a huge fan of Chinander's philosophy. You can't really count on getting the turnover battle to be in your favor all the time. Stopping teams on 3rd down is much more important and is a lot of times the fastest way to get the ball back to your offense.
So what are you saying...he should blitz everytime, sit in zone every 3rd down..I'm pretty sure his goal is to stop them on 3rd down by making them have long 3rd downs...we had a stretch of 5 straight 3 and outs! Colorado is a good offense, we were a terrible defense last year..the same guys are now a mediocre defense..hell even Bo had to go from 108 to 55 in his first season with Suh at DT. Do you even know football?
Rome wasn't built in a day. Excited to see the number of sacks, gang tackles and the players being flat out aggressive.
I saw quite a few of our linebackers making plays as well, which was great to see! Mo Barry was everywhere! Saw Ferguson and Gifford quite a bit as well.
I would also credit Colorado for taking care of the ball..
Last year I’m sure they made turnovers that might have lost them some games..
Aside from OSU (it isn’t going to matter) Minnesota and Illinois are the only teams we play without returning starting QBs
Why no turnovers? Uh they held onto the ball, and their QB put the ball where only their receiver could catch it.
If you watch "teams" that force turnovers they fall into a few categories...
1. They are physically dominant teams with the best athletes..said athletics are fast enough and strong enough to tackle securely while striping or putting a helmet on the ball with purpose, and their teammates gang tackle so a missed tackle is harmless
2. They are teams that take risks and miss a lot of tackles because physically they aren't good enough to strip and tackle
3. They are average teams who play a lot of young teams or overmatched teams...
We certainly aren't 1...won't be for a while, we could choose to be #2, and with our schedule we won't be #3. So should we tackle like shiite, like we did at times against Colorado, or be sure tackling but not turn it over? We are a bad team with a great staff...and by bad team I mean the players playing for us put the worst product on the field in NU history last season..the defense is mostly intact...i don't think I know enough to say but they may not be good enough to be a great defense. Bos best defense had at least 6 guys taken in the draft with multiple 1st rounders...
Bootle dropped an INT, Reed had an easy INT but chose to blow up a WR and cost us the game.

We are nitpicking after a loss. Picking at scabs. The fact is if Morgan and Spielman catch those passes we win and we aren't having this conversation.
Our offense generated almost 600 yards
Our defense was greatly improved over last year.
I only have ONE concern after that game: AM's knee
We are due for some luck from the football gods. I mean geez.... Gebbia transfers after playing the coaches with his positive talk, lightening cancels our opening game, we lose to CU in a game we should have won, and then our starting QB goes down.
I can't wait for Troy. Get this season rocking

From my vantage point on Reed’s Personal foul that ball was 4-5 feet over both their heads, if he would have avoided contact there was not going to be a flag..
Bootle was the only chance we had for a for sure TO.
Maybe I’m wrong, but based on the TV angle if Antiono Reed had played the ball instead of the big hit on that 3rd and 24, it looked like the could have had a chance to go up and get an INT. That’s what is really crushing about that play. Play the ball and get an INT icing the game, or let the ball fall incomplete and put them in 4th and 24. They certainly still have a lot of work to do in the secondary, and work overall. But from what I saw on Saturday, there has been vast improvement since the Iowa game last year, and if they can continue this trejectory of improvement, we’re going to win a lot of football games and beat a lot of very good teams.
Couldn’t disagree more, besides a miss assignment here and there are DB’s were in position most of the day. Their QB hit a few very tight windows and their #1 receiver had some “hats off to him” to him plays, he’ll by playing on Sundays. With Chins style of bringing pressure they did pretty well with 1-1 man coverage. Even Brock announcing the game mentioned what a dramatic turnaround the CB’s are in 2018.
The 3rd and a mile conversions were the most disappointing and the fact that we couldn't stop 4th downs.
As for our secondary. It was very much improved over last year. On many of the passes that were completed there was actually good coverage. Their QB simply had a great day passing and often put the ball where only his guy had a chance at it. Very good QB's with good receivers will make plays against any defense. I am not saying our secondary is a good one just yet. But they were far from terrible.
Yep. This is the biggest takeaway. Our playmakers didn't make the plays to win, and theirs did. Morgan could have put the game away, as could have JD.
