Why is it taking so long to post this years roster??

Seems like it would be out by now. Curious to see who has really gained the weight in the weight room. I remember Fletcher Cox gaining 50 lbs by the time he made it to campus. Also curious to know which commits didn't make it to campus. mainly the Ellis kid from Colorado haven't heard anything about him so far.

Probably has something to do with the player who wants to wear 21. Can't give that number out until Mrs. Magee approves. Keffer's number was retired and Kang Jackie thinks it should stay retired.

Why is Keffer McGee's number so sacred? I know he was a great player for us and tragically died but he's not the only player who has died while on the team. Should we also retire Rodney Stowers and Nick Bell's numbers? Rodney Stowers actually died from complications from a broken leg he suffered in a game against Florida. But the only number anyone seems to care about is McGee's.

they made a rule that, in that type situation, that the jersey would be retired thru that players Sr. season.

Then returned to active use.

I guess this is a special case.

Honestly, I would draw more comfort and pride from seeing someone continue the tradition of my son's number. That said, if Mississippi State told the McGee family the number would be retired then it should be retired. I've never understood the fuss about a jersey number.

With all due respect to all parties, he isn't he only Bulldog to lose his life during his career. Quite honestly and not to sounds harsh by any means, I'd say Jackie made a decision based on emotion rather than rationale. It's easy to get caught in the moment like that. But what about #97? What about #36? Retiring 21 forever is a complete and utter disservice to the other dawgs that passed away, jmo. If I was one of their parents, I'd be more hurt by that than anything else. It would seem the university cared more for one player's efforts than my own son's. As also mentioned here if it were me, I'd take some peace in seeing my son's number on the field especially worn by a player who's deserving both on the field and off. There's no right or wrong answer to this but I do not blame Mullen at all for putting it back on the field. I pray this never happens again but quite honestly if we retired every player's number who has passed or may pass in the future, there wouldn't be enough numbers to go around. That's not to sound heartless but it's the reality of things.

This policy makes sense. I like what Ole Miss does with #38. I also like what we did with #36 the year we lost Nick.

IMO I really agree that we should do it for all or do it for none. My personal belief is that Coach Sherrill had a close relationship with Keffer and that is what led to his number being retired but only those on the inside of the athletic department could tell you why one player's number got "retired" but the others didn't. Rodney Stowers is actually the only player I can remember MSU related that actually died from something football related.
