Yeah that height and athleticism thing could bite us in the ***. If he could go lottery with another year I could see him coming back. But if his ceiling is slipping in near the top of the second round, this is probably his year to do it. Can’t ask for a better season than he’s having now.

IQ will play in the NBA

In agree, provided he learns to run a team as a PG. I want the best for IQ even if it's the NBA. I just don't think he can play in that league unless he improves his handles a bit as well as his ability to finish at the rim and play as a facilitator, aka point guard. Right now he's a great college player, but his skill set doesn't translate into an NBA PG at the moment. A year at the UK reins, assuming Hagans leaves, would do wonders for his NBA future.

I think EJ should return (if Nick leaves) and attempt to duplicate what Nick did in the way of vast improvement this year. Hagans should go if he shoots like he did today for most of the remaining games. If not, he should do what Jeff Sheppard did and spend all summer and next season taking 600 jump shots a day. I think it would work out very well if both Hagans and Quickley returned and started next year along with Clarke, Boston, Jackson, and hopefully another 5-Star big to play along side EJ if he decides to return: Banchero, Brown, Omoruyi or maybe two of them if both NR and EJ leave.

Not mentioned as a NBA Pro Prospect but Maxey is? IQ is a better shooter and defender at this point.

You answered your own question with your last three words.

NBA scouts aren't that concerned with the player you are right now "at this point", instead they're focused on what kind of player they project the kid to be to be in the future ...because, after all, future performance is what they're paying for.

And Maxey is regarded as having considerably more future potential.

Does it matter? We need Quickley or Hagans back next year for PG depth. Askew alone isn’t going to get it done. I, for one, am happy Quickley isn’t mentioned on any draft boards. #KentuckyFirst
Don’t hold your breath waiting for quickley to come back for a junior year

We can all argue potential....but Quickley is showing some down right sick moves offensively off the dribble and scoring to the bucket. That in and out dribble move and explosion to the backboard for a quick layup was down right nasty (and very Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ish).

He's a true sniper, has that floater down and no we can take dudes off the bounce. About the only thing left is to show a dibble pull up three point in your face which Cal doens't run that Bruce Pearl bad-shot stuff at UK>

Quickly is slower, not nearly as athletic and what you are seeing now is what he is capable of. He is a GREAT college player. His game doesn’t translate well into the league. There’s been a ton of other amazing college players over the years who were the same way. I love Quickley and wish him the best but he won’t be a lasting player in the NBA. Look at Doron Lamb who was an inch taller, look at the Harrison Twins who are 3 inches taller. He has SG skills in a PG body. I still love the kid though, wish he’d stay for another year and try his hand at the point. If he can learn to play PG he’d have a chance in the NBA.

I agree with everyone’s points on IQ and his pro prospects.

But no one has presented evidence as to why Maxey is the #7 overall prospect according to ESPN and IQ is barely showing up on draft boards.

Not trying to knock Tyrese, I love his game, but I don’t understand the huge gulf between the two. Maxey a little thicker, but it’s not like he’s got a 40” vertical. He’s not the shooter Quickley is either. He will improve, but why can’t Quickley improve his shooting too? And we really don’t know if either one of them can run a team. Although it does seem Cal trusts Maxey to be the backup PG.

I don’t know. I just find it interesting.

Yep, he's a very good guard and should be on someone's radar, but I think the issue for him is that he's a 2-guard in a point guard's body, at least for NBA purposes. For his sake, I hope someone realizes what he brings. For our sake, I hope they don't have that realization until the middle of next season. I would absolutely LOVE to have a junior Quickley. It may happen, too.

Maxey does have a very good Vertical, can’t find a measurement but it was 38.5” if I remember right. Kid has high potential athletically. Quickley does not, that’s the difference.

Have been thinking for awhile that we've been under utilizing him. He's not a focal point at all, yet leads us in scoring. He's a really good basketball player.

I love IQ . Much love . The one guy other than Nick that you know is going to bring it . Every time. Whatever is best for IQ in the future is good with me .

1- Maxey could be a scoring PG in NBA. IQ would be a 2-guard, and on the smaller size of 2-guards

2- IQ is more athletic

So a not big, not overly athletic, not great shooting 2-guard is a dime-a-dozen.

He just doesn't have that explosive athleticism he needs to really make the jump right now (no pun intended).

But he's so much improved I don't count out anything. Last night we saw a different version where he started really taking people off the dribble and getting by his man. Had a really nice back to back drives.

One more year of that kind of development, and he will be ready. Will never be a star in the NBA. But they pay role players and 3/d guys too

I think I’ve solved an NBA scouts job.

They rate players on a point system and it’s age x rank coming out of high school. The lower the number the better.

That’s the only way to explain why Richards isn’t a lotto pick this year but Anthony Edwards is projected #1 and how Maxey is top 7 and IQ is undrafted.

I don't know. But its hard to see him coming back with how he is playing right now.

If he continues how hes playing right now there's no way hes not a 1st round pick so I still assume hes gone.

IQ is a lot like Tony Delk. Great college shooting guard but won't make it in the NBA at the point guard and too short to play shooting guard in the NBA

I think it is because that Maxey can play PG and Quickley seems to be a SG. Quickley probably is not big enough to play SG in the NBA. JMO.

IQ isn’t a two guard at the next level. He’s likely been a point guard since he was 8. That’s what he’ll play—if (probable) he plays in the nba.

The more i think about it i would not be surprised if IQ came back next year to get that degree. I know he could get it latter IF he did make it into the NBA. He has a good head on his shoulders and i don't know what kind if grades he has. Just have to wait and see.

That is what I was saying, he is not a SG in the NBA, but that is all he has played at UK, after being beaten out by Hagans. Even when Hagans goes out, Maxey takes over at PG. If he can split time with Askew, next year, he can probably prove he can play the position, and get drafted.

That’s my hope as well. If he stayed, I think, it would be because Cal told him he’d be the lead point guard. Pure speculation of course.
