It is more than that...when asked about needing Willis for Vandy and Florida he acted like not having Derek was not important...Cal said he only made one basket in those games blah blah blah...go listen to it
They need Willis to be at peak no matter what Cal says

He always gave backhanded compliments to Harrelson too his senior year. Constantly prefaced every comment with a qualifier or caveat. He doesn't identify Willis as one of his guys, he was just a guy he took because he was an instate kid (who was tall and had upside) and it kept others from getting him.
Cal had no intention of giving him a chance and is probably looking for ways to not need him still.

I don't hate Coach Cal at all but I believe he doesn't like to answer about player Injuries. Another thing not only the picture on Social Media he also before the TA&M that is body was beaten down. That evening they took a picture of both his knees wrapped and his ankle when he made that statement about his body taking a beatdown.
News flash! cal doesn't talk about players not playing whether it's injuries or not. He leaves it for speculation. Would you rather have a pitino type that says it's the worst injury in 20 years but then plays?

Kentucky Boy 1998's statement was completely different than your statement. If you read his post he states that Willis is not one of Cal's boys and he only took him because he didn't want anyone else to have him and had no intention of ever playing him. None of which Kentucky Boy 1998 can prove. Why post that about a coach you like?

Seriously, seems like Cal always plays it close to his vest about player injuries. Remember when AD whacked his knee in the EE against Baylor? The whole week before the FF, every interview I heard, when someone asked about Davis' knee-- Cal gave them a quick "he's fine" answer and moved on to the next subject as fast as he could.
Being a UK-paranoid type, I was convinced Cal's evasiveness meant AD was going to need a knee transplant, and that UK was looking for a donor.

This is where you failed to listen to Cal's quote about Willis in context. The inference was made that we lost to Vandy because Derek Willis wasn't available. Cal noted that in our previous game against Vandy, Derek only made one shot. He was actually making the point that in our win, Vandy's bigs didn't show up and in Vandy's win, our bigs didn't show up. Seriously, why don't you take your inferiority complex and your penchant to stir the pot somewhere else.
Cal is a good recruiter, but he isn't very good at fan x's and o's. It looks like to me he would have learned by now that this is our team. If he wasn't so stubborn, he could read Rafters and understand the changes he needs to make as well as the info he needs to disperse. I get the feeling that he has his own way of doing things and doesn't, forgive my French, give two ***** what we think. If he thinks he's going to have any success with his separatist attitude, well I've got news for him. Surrender to the power Cal. It's a fan first program.
I think by Cal saying I wouldn't have played him unless he asked is like saying I wished he would have asked me to put him in. Cal would like to see that toughness in him of being willing to play through pain. I think he is probably ready to go once he feels he can stand playing through the pain. I don't know this, just my opinion. I think Cal would have loved to have been able to say he wanted to play but is still hurting or we played him because even though he's in pain he wants to play, now that's just my opinion.
