Why Does Auburn Get a Pass on Cheating?

Haven't watched Auburn play yet this year, and I'm surprised there has been no mention of Chuck Person's arrest. If one of Cal's assistants got arrested for paying players, we wouldn't play more than a few minutes every game before announcers ranted and raved about it. Why do Pearl and Auburn get a pass?

Great question. They got off scot-free with the whole Cam Newton thing. They’re the most inbred corrupt athletic program in the SEC, even worse than Tennessee. Somebody at Auburn must have really good pictures of Mark Emmert in compromising situations.
I'd actually forgotten about the Cam Newton scandal. Auburn does seem to get away with the most shady stuff. Do people really believe that Pearl didn't know his assistant was paying recruits?

Well, you might get your facts straight before ranting.

Person did not get arrested for "paying players." Instead he was arrested for getting paid to direct players toward specific agents and Adidas after their college career was over. His crime was taking bribes, NOT offering them.

Not saying that's better, but let's at least be honest. Person was the payee and not the payor in these allegations. And there's no evidence yet of Pearl having any knowledge or involvement.

This article reports that Person paid $11,000 to the family of an Auburn player and $7,500 to the mother of another Auburn player. Also, two Auburn players were suspended from play as a result of questions about their elgibility as a result of Person's cheating. http://www.al.com/auburnbasketball/index.ssf/2017/09/auburn_assistant_chuck_person.html

They've not gotten a pass. 2 good players haven't played a second and Person could go to jail. Will probably get more once the NCAA's crap comes out.
I understand what you're saying, but it seems like they are getting a pass from the media. There would be an unbelievable media firestorm if a Kentucky Basketball assistant got arrested in connection with paying players. Dan Dakich would have definitely talked about it tonight if one of Cal's assistants was busted for it. He didn't say a word about Pearl's assistant paying players.

Why are you here? Seems like Auburn fans have an odd inferiority complex. I'm guessing Auburn fans are so sensitive as the result of always playing second fiddle to the Crimson Tide in Alabama.

Says the fan of the team that lost Bear Bryant as HC becaus they, UK gave him a watch while giving Rupp a Caddy.

Of course once a loser always a loser.

You really burned me with that incoherent reference to the 1950s. I've never gone to an opposing team's board to gloat after a win. If I ever feel the need to do something that that lame, I hope I can at least come up with a taunt about something that happened within the last half century.

The two players who have been implicated have sat the whole season. Clearly we haven't gotten away with anything. Add those guys to our roster and we are undefeated right now.

Honestly, after the NCAA ruling on North Carolina and their blind eye toward Duke , I don't really blame schools for cheating.

You guys have great talent. They just play lazy. That’s how it looked tonight anyway. But that’s on coach 100%. Shouldn’t have been close tonight with the way we shot.

Nah, Person was directing current players to an agent and getting a kickback for that, but he was also facilitating payments to the two players in question. Person’s situation is separate and not linked to the Adidas situation.

He allegedly paid CURRENT players to LEAVE the school and sign with a fake NBA agent.

If you think that’s some sort of AU scheme to cheat, you’re bat **** crazy lol.

None of Auburn’s current eligible players were good enough to be recruited by UK. Got to give some credit to good coaching.

This. And, fwiw, the same could be said for Pearl's early UT teams which also kicked UK's *** (indeed, led by a Ky kid, Chris Lofton, who UK specifically chose NOT to recruit).

Say what you want about Pearl, but he's clearly proven at EVERY stop--Southern Indiana, Milwaukee, Tennessee, Auburn--that he's able to get mediocre recruits to overachieve and play WAY above the level they were rated at in high school. There's no better sign of a good coach than that, in my book.

Bryce Brown, Auburn’s leading scorer, was a 3 Star and wasn’t even recruited by any D1 Big 5 conference schools, other than Auburn. 3 years with Pearl and he is projected to be 1st team SEC and a candidate for conference player of the year.

Listen pal....AUBURN is good in basketball for the second time in my life. We can't act like we've been here before becAUse we haven't. Imagine if Kentucky was good in football.....then you would understand.

Yea, Pearl didn't know about his star assistant paying players, uh huh. And he won't speak with investigators about it because he knows way too much to not get fired and/or arrested. But Auburn is letting him still coach because they are so desperate to win. If after all this they have to vacate games and he gets fired, so what. They will be back to sucking again where they usually are.

Again, just so much cluelessness to the situation.

You think Pearl knew and signed off on his Assistant paying CURRENT players to LEAVE school and sign with NBA agent??

Come on. No one is that f’ing stupid are they? Lol

Maybe Auburn isn't cheating? Or at least no more than other basketball programs? It's not like Kentucky hasn't had such accusations leveled at its program. Are the Cats guilty just because of accusations? Smoke means fire?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...liparis-five-most-controversial-players-at-uk

As others have pointed out, an Auburn assistant coach was taking money from an agent in exchange for paying said players to leave the program and sign with the agent. As a systemic method of cheating that does not seem like a winning strategy that a head coach or program would implement for success. But who knows? Maybe Pearl is hooked up and this is next wave college hoops.

As an Auburn fan, how have we gotten away with anything? Two of our best players have been suspended all year.

All the schools involved in the FBI situation are not the same. Auburn's situation is minor compared to a school like Louisville. Nobody was paid to come to Auburn during the recruiting process.

A financial adviser was funneling money to two players already enrolled in school as an incentive to use this financial adviser after college.

The money was funneled through Chuck Person, but he kept most of the money for himself. One player was given a total of seven thousand dollars and the other player was given eleven thousand dollars. Both players have been suspended all year.

The financial adviser was really working as informant for the FBI. That is Auburn's role in the FBI investigation.

ESPN came out with an article yesterday saying as many as three dozen bssketball programs could get caught up in the FBI investigation before it was over
