Another whacko twisting words. What a surprise.

I said newborns can't have a living will.

Simple enough?

Biff, you said that taking someone off of life support was legal. I stated that it wasn't unless you had a living will. Either read up on stuff of go back to jr. high and get informed.

You can take someone off life support without a living will specifying that is the desire of the patient. You're an idiot. Why do you feel the need to keep proving it?

They do not have to accept a patient for an elective surgery or procedure, but they do have to accept anyone presenting in the ED.

Learn......please.....

Hospitals are required by law to provide "stabilizing care" with an emergency medical condition only.

My example was for cancer, or diabetes....of which is something that you CAN be denied for: medications, etc.[/QUOTE]

No it was not, you made a general statement and then backtracked. Biff, I work for a company that helps hospitals and clinics give free/discounted drugs to those who don't have insurance. We also convert private insurance into funds that are used to treat those patients without insurance. It's a gov. program paid for 100% by Pharma and was started under Bush.

Give it a break. If you want to have a live conversation I am more than happy to help you understand healthcare.

Have you tried it? If they did, that would be against the law. What do you think a living will is? It allows for those who have power of attorney granted to act on your behalf if you are incapacitated and unable to speak for yourself. I have lost both parents in the last 8 years, and both times had to submit both documents before the physician and the hospital would comply. Without it, it is illegal.

It is NOT illegal. If no living will is presented, the health care provider consults with the family or next of kin. They can decide to end a life-support treatment, such as stopping the use of a ventilator.

********, you're a f'ucking idiot. Keep proving it.

Had to go through that unexpectedly with my Father in law, he had no living will, his wife had to sign the consent.

Is refusing treatment legal? Choosing to stop treatment that is not curing or controlling an illness, or deciding not to start a new treatment, is completely legal—whether the choice is made by the person who is dying or by the person making healthcare decisions. Some people think this is like allowing death to happen. The law does not consider refusing such treatment to be either suicide or euthanasia, sometimes called mercy killing.

Biff, what's with the name calling? Does it make you feel tough?

I stand 1/2 corrected...My parents physician and the hospital where my parents passed both refused to start the process until we gave them the POA and the living will. I have many friends who are physicians who all say that they would not do this unless all the paperwork was in order. They phrase it as illegal. I guess you must get your care from Planned Parenthood where murder is celebrated.

From the Center Fro Aging....

You must have a Living Will to stop treatment
near the end of life?

Treatment can be stopped without a Living Will if everyone involved agrees. However, without some kind of advance directive, decisions may be more difficult and disputes more likely

  • The Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care is the more useful and versatile advance directive, because it applies to all health care decisions and empowers the person you name to make decisions for you in the way you want them made.

  • Over 2/3 of the adult population have no Living Will or other advance directive.

I proved that you have to sign documents and even then, the issue may still have legal issues. I don't often do this, but I do wish your mother would have had access to Planned Parenthood as the world wold have been a much better place. That's an abortion I would support.
