Lol I mean I think he was tonightBrooks thinks he is the featured offensive player.
I do. He’s stubborn as hell. But I also give him credit when it’s due.Yeah never question this super coach that can do no wrong
Interesting take after a game like this.Yeah never question this super coach that can do no wrong
He did nothing to get Grady involved or oscarI do. He’s stubborn as hell. But I also give him credit when it’s due.
He adjusted tonight. Give him credit.
These aren't fans, and this really isn't a fan board anymore. The hate and venom flows here whether we win or lose. I respect fully disagree. The problem with both is effort. Grady has 5 times the ability of Mintz, but Mintz plays 10 times harder, And nobody on the team has more SF tools than Allen. But Allen needs to bring it and not be acting like a deer in headlights - and to his credit it looks like Allen is starting to come around.Problem with Grady and Allen is that they can't guard a safety cone. Dude's were running through them all first half.
Did we need too? Oscar was out most of the first half. Can you say ONE nice thing about his adjustments tonight a.He did nothing to get Grady involved or oscar
Allen does have deer in headlight syndrome because he will get yanked for most anythingI respect fully disagree. The problem with both is effort. It's on Grady. This is big time basketball. College and professional basketball is NOT about "running plays" for one guy. You do that in elementary school or maybe high school when one guy is about all the talent you have. Motion offenses are designed to provide multiple opportunities for multiple players, and to the bold go the spoils. Grady has been anything but bold. He needs more energy and effort, not more screens. Heck some of the most "modern" offenses being talked about now don't use screens at all - they use passing and motion.Uhhhh yes, yes he can. He’s the coach and when you have an elite scorer like Grady, you find a way to get him involved.
He had no problem getting Boston looks last year. Brooks is getting a lot of offensive focus too and it's by design.
Cal ran plays for Boston all last year, he runs plays for Tyty this year. He runs plays to get shooters open looks, but he's not forcing Grady to assert himself. I helieve he will eventually, so it's a moot point. It's on Grady. This is big time basketball. College and professional basketball is NOT about "running plays" for one guy. BS excuse in my opinion, and I've got more confidence in Allen's potential than most that post here. It sounds like you and I might agree on Allen's potential. But, I'm not going to make excuses for him. Nobody is holding Allen back, but Allen.Allen does have deer in headlight syndrome because he will get yanked for most anything
Do you think he would have gotten the chance to make 5 or 6 errors like brooks... not a chance
All the coaches have a few plays to pull out for certain situations. I will go with you on that kyjeff1. But I certainly disagree with the talk of needing to run a bunch of plays for any player. Like I said, we did a lot of that in elementary school, and not nearly as much in high school. We used some screens, but the shots came within the flow of the offense 90% of the time.Cal ran plays for Boston all last year, he runs plays for Tyty this year. Those commenting on Grady & Allen watch the scoring part of the game but no other parts of the game.Problem with Grady and Allen is that they can't guard a safety cone. Dude's were running through them all first half.
They do run plays in college and the NBA. Cal talks about his circle stuff all the time and if he really wanted to, he could run 10 sets in a row to give Grady open looks just like he did for Brooks tonight. All the coaches have a few plays to pull out for certain situations. Grady's granny?Doesn’t even look to get him involved in the game. One of the purest shooters in the country.
What is the objective of the game? To win? Or to get certain players involved? He did nothing to get Grady involved or oscar
Mintz and Tyty played great. Wasn't Grady's night.Doesn’t even look to get him involved in the game. One of the purest shooters in the country.
Not like is being suggested. Sets - at least the way its always been described to me - are different variations of how your motion operates, e.g., 3-out, 4-out, maybe a horn-set, etc. And every coach has a few special plays for certain situations (e.g., an out-of-bounds play, last shot of the game play, etc.).They do run plays in college and the NBA. Cmon, he has that one where the guy runs back and forth on the baseline off double screens while reading the defense. But that’s about it.Cal has none
I bet you'll see what I'm talking about in the next game. I bet you see Grady set up to take wide open shots or drives to the basket off set plays. Cal saw what he saw tonight, he will do something about it.Not like is being suggested. I don't want to argue. I respect your opinion. I just really do not agree with the talk about running a bunch of plays in the sense being suggested. I guess there might be some college coaches that still run a set offense with "plays;" but I don't think there are many left. In my opinion, if you're not good enough to get your shot in a quality motion offense, then you're probably not good enough to play very much for a Div. I college basketball team. None of the guys playing for Ohio needed plays run for them to get their shots.
At least you should have some basketball knowledge prior to bashing Cal and the UK players.Yeah never question this super coach that can do no wrong
Wait, what? Running through “them” and doing so “all first half”? Color me confused. Allen played how many minutes the first half?Problem with Grady and Allen is that they can't guard a safety cone. Dude's were running through them all first half.
Well, whatever gets him going is going to make me happy. Grady is too good to be playing this way. As I said in another post, Grady has 5 times the ability of Mintz, but Mintz plays 10 times as hard (hyperbole, I know - but it makes my point).I bet you'll see what I'm talking about in the next game. I bet you see Grady set up to take wide open shots or drives to the basket off set plays. Cal saw what he saw tonight, he will do something about it.
He has controlled what several past players were able to do and not do on the court. We’ve had countless guys that weren’t allowed to even put the ball on the floor. Brooks should most definitely be in that group. Every time he puts the ball on the deck bad things happen.Like Cal can make him shoot or control what he does on the court directly lol
Some of y'all would blame Cal if it rained on your day off
What are you going to say when he scores 20 soon? There’s going to be games where guys don’t give you much. He’s new to the team . He’ll be just fine. Quit being emotional about 1-2 games. It’s a 30 plus game seasonDoesn’t even look to get him involved in the game. One of the purest shooters in the country.
Lol I mean I think he was tonight
Absolutely it is. I truly don’t understand why Cal has guys take the 19/20 foot 2 point shot. Like you said, the worst shot in basketball and it’s not close. There was once a coach here that would yank a guy for taking a shot with their toe on the 3 point line. Why? Well, because, again, it’s the worst shot in basketball.Yeah, I mean if he's gonna hit those long 2's whatever, shoot em, but it's the worst shot in basketball. I cringe every time we take one with the exception of TyTy.
You are the expert. Please call Cal and tell him how to coach this team.Yeah never question this super coach that can do no wrong
Grady needs to get himself involved as far as I’m concerned. After the first play for him got canceled out due to a foul, seems to me he got frustrated then spent most of the rest of his time standing around. I think Calipari did an excellent job limiting his minutes after that and rightfully soHe did nothing to get Grady involved or oscar
In Grady's time here, has he proven to be more than just a spot up shooter? In 20 minutes, dude didn't score. One of his two attempts was a three-pointer. Against Duke, all but one of his attempts was a three-pointer. Against MSM, he scored 8 points, with 6 of them coming on three-point shots. And in his lone high scoring game, 12 of his 19 points came from behind the arc. He's shooting very well from deep, so that's great. But Grady doesn't rebound (1.3rpg) nor assist (.3apg). It's fascinating that so many on this board think Grady gives us something different than Allen does. Given the same minutes, they'd have the same stats (Allen has more assists per game even in his limited minutes). Our backcourt is loaded. Sometimes it’ll be Grady and Davion, others it’ll be TyTy and Sahvir. Allen is a spot up shooter off the bench. Until he shows us and Cal otherwise, that’s who he will be, and that’s fine.
Grady will be fine.
There will certainly be games in which Brooks back rims just about every one of those shots. And in those games, with his high turnover rate to boot, it will spell trouble.Yeah, I mean if he's gonna hit those long 2's whatever, shoot em, but it's the worst shot in basketball. I cringe every time we take one with the exception of TyTy.
He will see tons of action against zone defenses. Tough for him to create his own shot without set plays or open transition shots.Sorry, should have looked at the time stamp. I would like to see Cal get him involved more,, also. He clearly has the ability to score in bunches. But it's also clear he's not comfortable out there yet. I do hope Cal finds a way to get him comfortable out there.
This is a pretty good post and good use of early stats. In Grady's time here, has he proven to be more than just a spot up shooter? In 20 minutes, dude didn't score.
