CHICAGO (WGN) — Two sisters are facing charges after prosecutors said they stabbed a store employee 27 times after being told to wear a mask inside a Chicago store.

Jessica Hill, 21, and Jayla Hill, 18, were both charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing a 42-year-old security guard at Snipes — an athletic apparel store — around 6 p.m. Sunday.

Officials said the stabbing happened after the women were told to wear masks and use store provided hand sanitizer.

Texas bus driver attacked with two-by-four after asking rider to wear mask

LUBBOCK, Texas (KLBK) – A Texas bus driver was assaulted with a piece of two-by-four after she asked a man to wear a mask while riding on her bus, police say.

Lubbock Police arrested Shonn Glenn Shepard, 36, of Lubbock, for assault after responding to the scene just after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

“A subject had assaulted a Citibus driver with a 2×4 piece of wood,” the police report said. “I arrived on scene and made contact with [the victim]. I observed that [the victim] was bleeding from the back of her head.”

The driver told officers “that [Shepard] became upset when he was asked to wear a face mask while on the bus.”

In early July, Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order to mandate the use of face coverings in public places in most Texas counties. After the driver asked Shepard to wear the mask, he gathered his belongings as if to exit, but then hit her, the report said.

The driver told police she then ordered Shepard to get off the bus. He did, but after she shut the door, he came back “for some unprovoked reason.”

“[Shepard] began using the 2×4 to break multiple mirrors and windows on the bus,” the police report said. “[The victim] advised that [Shepard] approached the driver side window where she was seated and shattered the driver side window.”

Police said when they arrived, Shepard tried to run away. When officers caught up with him, Shepard took an aggressive stand and an officer ordered him at gunpoint to get on the ground.

“[Shepard] was holding a 2×4 piece of wood. The 2×4 was covered with what appeared to be a significant amount of fresh blood,” the report said.

Damage to the bus was estimated at $2,500.

Shepard was held Friday in the Lubbock County Detention Center on bonds totaling $31,000. The charges included assault, criminal mischief and evading police.

I feel bad for the family of the guy who was shot, but I have a hard time faulting the police in this situation. I understand that the guy with the knife had mental health problems, but it ultimately doesn't matter to the cop if he gets stabbed by a crazy person or a sane one.

how much would it matter to society now if the person killed the cop? I suspect his value to the general population has been eroded significantly because of this year's events of police shooting ending in death but certainly not within law enforcement.

if the person had mental illness, I can't help but think this could have been an attempt at suicide. There is a phenomenon where people commit suicide by engaging police with weapons. Not at all saying this is the case with this stabbing.........just saying.

Not one (that I saw) person or family member came out to try and stop the guy but they had no problem flooding the street afterwards. I wonder why they didn't intervene - probably because they didn't want to get stabbed. Well neither did those officers.

I think it was his mother. That's part of the complaints I've heard about the shooting - the police knew he had issues. That becomes an argument that the courts recognize mental illness as a defense. That's all fine and good, but someone who is armed with a knife and unbalanced on the street is a danger to the police and the community. By all means do try to end the encounter peacefully, but that doesn't appear to have been likely in this situation. And this doesn't seem to be a race related issue to me. This was a question of the police deciding in that moment that they had to stop this guy. Regardless of the race of that person, I don't think their decision would have been different.

A little back story about Philly and mental illness. I have told this a couple of times on this board. My old company is a leader in mental health drugs. They invented a long acting injectable that could be used to help those with mental illness stay on their meds. The #1 issue with this population is not taking/quiting their meds when they think they feel better.

My company paid for a mental health expert and pharmacist to work in Philly for a year following up on patients that have hospitalized and released back into society. It took over 3 years for Philly to allow for this pilot to take place. These patients have hurt others or themselves and are ones most likely to get arrested while off of their meds.

After a year, this person visited homeless shelters, found patients who were living on the streets and visited others who were being taken care of by family members but they could not get them to take their meds. More than 250 patients were maintained for over a year. 98% of these patients stayed on their meds...and was not arrested or hurt anyone or anything.

My company offered to pay for this service as long as they used our drugs...they declined...within a year, the majority of these patients were back in the system. They said that it was a forced drug program and was unethical...

now lets talk about what happened this week...where did it all go wrong?

I agree with you. They took about 10 extra steps more than I would have. If it’d been me the motherfvcker would’ve gotten 2 to the chest and 1 to the head when he took his first step towards me with the knife.

For the “shoot em in the leg” people..would u mind telling which part of the leg? There are arteries in that area. Probably the most important one, femoral artery, which is above the knee and in the thigh.

I don’t understand the logic/idiocy behind that. Officers in that situation don’t have time to act. It’s easier said than done, which is basically the Liberal/Dem mantra.

The shoot them in the leg idea is dumb. Smaller target, more likely to miss, and those bullets keep traveling. That is also a danger to the public. If you feel that you need to shoot someone, you aim for center mass.
