Why CFB is way more fun than the NFL

This article captures why I so much prefer college football to the NFL:

"Forget about the greed and gluttony of the NIL era. Forget about college football moving closer and closer to the homogenized NFL. It’s still the wondrously unpredictable weekly adventure that can’t be beat.

No matter how they argue and bicker over billions, or how they change conference landscapes, they will never, ever take away the very thing that has built and sustained college football for nearly two centuries.

The great unknown
."

"Just enjoy the carnage."

BTW, when was the last time NFL fans stormed the field after a big win?

FB has always been more by structure of the game.

First, more people play so more community interest from pee wee up. 60-100 kids on a HS team. Lot more folks are engaged.

More stars, more faces to market cheer for.

12 kids on a BB team, 6 play, 2 get the ball and score.

Outside v inside. Naturally FB has a tailgating and stadium event atmosphere that BB will never have.

UK is a BB school. Kentucky is a BB state. Kroger field doubles Rupp’s capacity and it’s been downsized.

16 games v 30ish.

Your whole week is planned around FB weekends. There’s no urgency to catch every Tuesday or Thursday BB game.

When I was a kid I was the biggest NFL fan anywhere, the Minnesota Vikings were my favorite team. They dominated the 70s but could never win the Super Bowl, then Bud Grant retired and they have never been the same. Over time the greed, the hot dogs and the kneeling during the anthem among other things turned me completely off. I have always loved college football and since I was about 17 it has been my favorite thing to watch along with college basketball, especially the cats of course. I could care less if the NFL folded tomorrow, NBA too.

But but but everybody at my work are all Cowboys fans
I've been a Cowboys fan for as long as I can remember. I don't like a lot of things about the NFL, but I'll never stop being a fan of the game. Less than 2% of all college players make an NFL roster. It's the best players in the world and it shows.

NOTHING beats the college game though. From the traditions and pageantry, to the bands and the fan experience the college game can't be topped in any sport. Of course it's always better when the Cats are winning. I'm one of the few fans that would gladly trade some basketball success for a chance to even play for the SEC Championship in football.

Nice, I liked watching Tarkenton. Four Super Bowls and always runnersup, that had to hurt. I was an early Bengals fan, when Brown coached them.

NFL football is the best pro sport bar none. Fantasy football makes it completely addictive.

I honestly only like college football when UK is good, otherwise who cares?

College football is the greatest sport on the planet. Show me an atmosphere in the NFL like the one we saw at Kroger Field on Saturday, you can't.

Agree. I do think its interesting how differently nil has gone for cfb vs cbb. I think cfb is more along the lines of what people had in mind for nil. A handful of guys making lots of money and most others getting respectable pay for their contributions. As a sport, it's much better run from a gm perspective and very much like a pro situation.

Basketball on the other hand sees the 9th and 10th roster guy making over 500k, sometimes well over, and the stars making insane money. There is no rhyme or reason to any of those numbers, donors are just making it rain for no apparent reason.

I could same the same thing about my nfl team sucking. Who cares but I still watch. Same with college football. It is so so so much more than dependent on UK being good.

That's the point - fantasy football makes the NFL great even when your team sucks. But college football, not so much. Oh well, to each their own!

Used to love pro football. Packers fan, had a Bart Starr poster on my wall. Over the years that has changed for me. All the rule changes giving the offense a huge advantage over the defense, the increased corrosive effects gambling has had on the game. The increased culture war influences in the game. Officiating has become arbitrary and subjective to the point officials end up decide nearly every close game. I could go on but Ill stop there.
The college game is far superior
today to NFL. That said I see trends that threaten the college game. Changing the clock stopping for first downs ( strictly for TV) , the wendsday " injury reports" should call them " gamblers report".the ongoing effort to change rules to be more in line with NFL is a terrible idea. The abvent of super conferences which reduce or eliminate some match ups that have happened yearly for decades and are traditional rivals. Finally the playoffs, especially the expanded version has removed any impetus to schedule any great team from out of conference . In coming years there will be fewer and fewer Texas/ Ohio State type games and I think this will be a huge loss for the c9llege game.

Sure it was but it was in conference. I like to see some out of conference games that aren't tomato cans. You won't see many good out of conference matchups down the road.
The 9 games conference schedules are a big part of it. No one in SEC and B1G wants to give us the revenue of cupcake home games. Plus some schools have traditional opponents they play OOC. The NFL doesn't play out of league games.

I'm confused by that last sentence (the rest I agree with). I thought every NFL team played like 5 games a year out of conference (NFC vs AFC). Or when you say "league" do you mean like literal NFL teams don't play teams from other football leagues (XFL, CFL, etc)?
