The death rate with Coronavirus will be almost the same as the flu. Half of the country has probably had it already and didn't even know it.

Well that’s a relief. When do you plan on sharing your results with the CDC?

And what label should the networks use when publishing your findings? Should it say “Dr Meteordealer” or do you want to use your real name?

You should also notify President Trump to let him know it will no longer be necessary for him to declare a national emergency. He’s planning on announcing that today, so that’d be real embarrassing for him based on your analysis.

So everyone should just lock themselves in their houses from now on because they are afraid of getting a low grade fever and possibly a cough? There are risks in everything we do in our daily lives. You have a greater chance of being killed in a car wreck than dying from Coronavirus. The US currently has 41 deaths from Coronavirus out of millions of infected people.

You are misinformed. VERY misinformed. It's this type of attitude that will make it tough for the spreading of the virus to stop.

Yes, you should limit your social activities. Everyone should. I say limit because it's not practical for everyone to just stay in their house.

The fatality rate will not be known until this is all over. Right now, the fatality rate is MUCH higher than the standard flu and will be higher when all is said and done.

Rate of spread and fatality rate .. focus on those. This has a higher rate of spread and a higher fatality rate than the flu. And... it doesn't make you bed ridden quickly like the flu. Flu hits you hard and you self quarantine. Incubation period on this can be over a week with NO SYMPTOMS. You can spread the virus during this time.

Watch PeterAttiaMD on YouTube as he breaks down the virus and how it relates the the flu, chicken pox, H1N1, ebola etc. educate yourself a little before spouting off on a message board.

The fatality rate is unknown because for every person who has tested positive there are probably another 1,000 people who are positive and don't even know it. Those people haven't been figured into the numbers.

Because they wanted to pat themselves on the back and feel like they did something and caved to the pressure. There's no reason not to be playing sports it makes absolutely no difference. They figured if people are gonna get sick you might as well bankrupt people and make them miserable on top it. Never let a good crisis go to waste

probably more people will commit suicide because their business and 401k has been ruined than the virus will kill. As for the tournament being cancelled it probably cost people and cities a billion dollars and saved nobody. The ncaa can collect their insurance check and go F itself. I'm as angry as I've been since the day after 9/11

So just to be clear, you are stating that the NCAA cancelled the tournament for two reasons:
  1. They caved to pressure and wanted to be able to pat themselves on the back
  2. They had a desire to inflict additional pain on people by causing bankruptcies
You created a brand new account today to post this and this is the best you can come up with?

yeah ? Who died and made you the gruppenfuhrer? I am young and healthy and am not gonna participate in this panic. Go hang yourself

You may be young and healthy but there is still risk for healthy younger adults. It's low, but there are still people dying the 10-39 age bracket. It's only .2% (right now) but if millions become infected - then that number piles up and becomes significant.

This is real, this is serious and I completely understand that people think there is over reaction. But unfortunately over-reaction is what it's going to take to slow this down.

And, I completely understand there will be unintended consequences because of the panic. Yes, there are going to be people afraid to go to the hospital and not receive needed treatment, there is lost revenue that may put people out of business.. This is not a win/win scenario for all. It sucks on multiple levels.

I apologize that my statement - go educate yourself - it was condescending. This does not need to turn into a name calling back and forth. I barely post on this board but I am taking the time to post now because I spent a good part of yesterday reading and learning about the virus, and trying to understand the decisions that are being made.

The over-reaction stems from the rate of spread potential this has..plus the fatality rate... that's why the experts are advising decisions makers to cancel and for people to chill out for a few weeks. If we don't, this could get a hell of a lot worse.

Where are you getting your info? Sesame Street?

No. I use logic instead of falling for the mass hysteria created by the media. The virus has been circulating around the planet since last Fall. Efforts to contain it didn't start until a few weeks ago when the Chinese finally admitted to it and notified other world leaders. Coronavirus is much more contagious than the flu. Given those facts, a good portion of the world's population has already been exposed to the virus and didn't even know they had it. The majority of people who tested positive thought they only had a mild cold. Some develop no symptoms at all.

Laugh. I didn’t think it was possible but there is one out in plain sight. Sounds like you got it all figured out there Ernest P.

you can't slow it down anymore than you can slow down the cold each year common sense would dictate

I agree with you in the sense that it's going to be difficult to slow down.

The steps that have been taken will slow it down. All those events had the potential to spread the virus. We'll never know how much though.

This just sucks. Like I said, on multiple levels.

Even if you don't believe the hype, still take precautions like washing hands and especially limiting contact with the elderly or anyone you know that has been sick (autoimmune, cancer, etc..). None of us are qualified enough to know exactly what is going on...

Even though there are some taking a hard stance on this, you would feel awful if you get it and give it to multiple other people and put their lives in jeopardy.

Do you have any facts to add to the discussion or do you just plan to continue lobbing insults at people?

I have seen the leaked documents from the Chinese government. They admit that the virus originated from a bio testing lab in Wuhan back around November. One of the workers there contracted it from one of their test animals then spread it around the population of that city. That is a good 3 or 4 months that the virus had to spread freely around the globe. With modern air travel, the number of people who have been exposed/infected is likely to be in the millions, if not tens of millions. The total number of deaths worldwide is at 5,000.

I go to the CDC and WHO for my facts. Soak up your conspiracy theories there Ernest.

Not to say that's BS... for all I know, it could be correct, but can you link a reputable news agency to that info?

The original post, and the ones following defending it, are non-sensical.
He could have selected better words, but his point is valid. It wouldn't be rocket science to figure out a way to hold the NCAA tournament without unduly endangering the players or the public. And, the TV revenue would be out of sight. For the large segment of the population that's staying at home for the next few weeks, the tournament on TV would be a blessing and sponsors would pay dearly for such a large captive audience. As for protecting the health of the participants, that would be relatively simple: All the airline planes that are now parked because so many flights are cancelled would be available for private charter at rates not seen in a very long time. No one would need to be exposed to a single untested person who might be infected. Every player, coach, ref, ball boy, et al, could be tested not just once, but several times a day throughout the tournament to ensure that no one is a carrier. The cost of private air charters and medical tests would be a drop in the bucket compared to the losses from cancelling the entire tournament.

NO, no, no, no and no.

This is not the flu. The flu decimates your immune system quickly and you feel like garbage and self-quarantine. This does NOT decimate your immune system and you don't feel bad during an extended incubation period (3-14 days). This virus limits production of pulmonary surfactins that have many functions regarding your ability to breathe. You can spread this with ZERO symptoms for a long time. The rate of spread on the flu is only 1.2 (every person who gets it, spreads it to 1.2 people). .. This could have a rate of spread of 5X the flu. Also, fatality rate is unknown right now and will stay unknown until this is over. SARs started with a 2% fatality rate but after the dust settled it was 10%.. you can't have an accurate fatality rate with active cases.

Young healthy adults are low risk...but there is still risk. Current kill rate on ages 10-39 is .2 %... which as I explained above is inaccurate but will likely be higher .. Even if it stays at .2%.. if 1 million young adults get this, then 20,000 young adults just died.
The number of cases are probably many times higher but not reported. That means the survival rates are actually much higher. I’ve read of people that survived and they say it was very mild. Even the older folks that were otherwise healthy. You people are afraid of your shadow and fall for anything you hear on tv. This is a political ploy. History will prove me right.

What are the odds that college football and basketball seasons are canceled for 2020-2021 also???

Yeah, awful decision looking at the way things have progressed.
OP’s comments are ridiculous.

It is true, however, that the vast majority of fatalities around the globe are elderly people.

Influenza acts the same way. 75% of the 30,000 Americans that died of the flu last season were 65 and older. 17% were 50-64.

Covid-19 is a different animal, but it is taking out the same kinds of people as the flu.

H1N1, on the other hand, killed 12,500 Americans and most of them were under 65.

More Americans will die of Covid-19, but hopefully not too many more.

zero point zero...if that happens the economy is toast. No college football would be a death sentence for thousands of cities who depend on it for business. That's a big reason penn st never got the death penalty after the Sandusky scandal. Businesses would have been ruined

LOL. No, there are certainly not "thousands of cities" that need college football to survive economically. That's some ridiculous hyperbole you just tossed out there.

If this pandemic is still raging mid- summer then, yes, there is indeed a very real chance college football may be cancelled too.

Its almost like we should listen to experts over people who get their news from their Facebook friends. "Just the flu" has turned into quite the monster.

...or Rush "it's just the common cold" Limbaugh, Fox News and various other right wing commentators.

Folks here like to bash on the "liberal media", but with this story it was the conservative media that irresponsibly mislead the public for weeks with dangerously bad takes on this crisis.

And, unfortunately, a lot of folks out there are still believing and repeating those bad takes well after those who first said them have since rescinded their words.
