Why Caldwell?

RU couldn’t find an IVY, NEC or MAAC team to fill this buy game? Could we not afford to buy one of those teams for this game? Yes their NET would be a quad3 or 4 but still better than Caldwell for prepping our players and helping post season dreams.

Why do we keep scheduling D2 teams? They do not count for anything or help in anyway. It’s just an added win to fluff the record. I think this is the fourth straight head we play a D2 or D3 team.

Hopefully a media member asks this question at the pre game or post game presser.

My guess is two fold:

- The week between Xmas and New Years has not been traditionally good to our program with some head scratching losses. It has been said the kids look forward to a break so yes agree they should beat any Q3 or Q4 level team but why set yourself up for any issues?

-I believe it was mentioned in some thread and I do not know how valid it is but I heard Pike has a close relationship with the HC at Caldwell so he added them to the schedule. Not saying you can overlook them (well okay yes I am) but that should give you ample time to prepare with the holiday for the Nebraska game.

I mentioned several months ago that Coach is good friends with the Caldwell coach. I also have mentioned our close games near the holidays. I think that is why we are playing Caldwell.

The out of conference schedule critics won’t stop. We play 20 league games in deepest conference in the country. We play SHU, ACC challenge, UMass, local teams, NJIT, Drexel, etc. No issues at all throwing a bone to Caldwell.

The one game we should play for tradition sake, Princeton, the critics disapprove.

I agree the conference presents plenty of opportunity. However, If we go 10-10 in B1G and have 20 wins(really 19) overall, the casual fan will be disappointed when tournament bubble bursts, barring a run in conf. Tourney, since they do not understand the importance in non conference scheduling.

This terrible and embarrassing scheduling. A big ten team should not be playing a D3 team. There are enough bad D1 teams to play against and win. Also why play them right before conference play? What if someone gets hurt? At least play them early so no one misses important games and you have options. This late in the season every game is a must win.

NCAA should ban any and all official games against non-D1 opponents unless it is an exhibition game or a game for charity that all profits go to some outside foundation.

We should schedule Fairfield the next 5 years. Jay Young and Pike are friends, they're a solid low-mid major, local close school... We should be playing Fairfield (my alma mater) over Caldwell any time.

There is no way these two guys want to compete against each other. They're friends... it would be too stressful and too much to lose on each side.

would like to see RU play all the area D1 teams
- definitely should play NJIT every year as the other D1 state school
- Princeton is a traditional game
- FDU, Monmouth, Rider, St Petes
- SHU is on the schedule
- then you have the PA border teams like Nova, Temple, Penn, Lafayette, and Lehigh
- Wagner, Columbia, Fordham, and Manhattan are close as well

Rutgers should play Princeton in every sport except football. They're our oldest rival. I would be okay playing Monmouth and even Rider in sports like soccer, hoops, lax, etc as well.

it would be cool if there was a Xmas to New Years NJ area exempt tourney at AC, Pru Center, or Izod center with NJ and area teams. Maybe an 8 team tourney

Rutgers - B10
Princeton - IVY
SHU - Big East
Rider, Monmouth , St Petes - MAAC
FDU - Northeast
NJIT - Atlantic Sun

Non NJ in other conferences
Lehigh, Lafayette, Bucknell, Army - Patriot
Temple - AAC
UConn - AAC now but leaving
Stonybrook, Binghamton - America East
Delaware, Hofstra - Colonial
Syracuse, BC, Pitt, UVA - ACC
West Va - Big 12

It wouldn't be cool to athletic department's budget.

Maybe I am in the minority......
I like my 10 home B1G games along with my
4 home games from fake tournament
1 P5 home cross conference game
3 cupcakes
1/2 Seton Hall game

Good mix. I like watching us winning and I like watching from my seat at the RAC.

If you are so inclined Maryland or Penn State is an easy drive if you want to see a game away from the RAC

that is why we get games like Caldwell

The game has no impact on the NCAA process or calculation. I don't agree with Caldwell, but I believe this week has been one quiet week in CBB and it allows the program and players to get home for a couple of days and without the preparation required for a bigger opponent.

You have holiday HS tourneys that the staff can watch and evaluate prospects as well.

That's about as far as I can go, finding any upside, but if you add in preparation for Nebraska and Penn State/Illinois, you can also do that while not doing anything of note vs Caldwell.

I don't know what Caldwell collects as a program to play RU, but whatever it is, my guess is that it helps a colleague as a one-off.

The fact is there's no doubt that 18 more B1G games will provide more than enough opportunities to build a NIT/NCAA resume. The OOC has already proven to be more than sufficient enough, despite it's appearance that it isn't.
