Why are we so fatigued?

It’s been a running theme after every game, especially when they lose, that, according to Pope, we’re struggling with fatigue. But Pope is the only coach who appears to be bringing it up as much. Why is that? Can anyone else make sense of it?

There might some truth. Our top players might have a measurable dip in production after playing 32 minutes or whatever.

If one were to express the merits of platooning and/or depth before the season started, then they must then also concede there is some drop off in player production after playing x minutes. Otherwise, why sub at all? Much less sub so deep as to have two units or play 10 players.

We intuitively understand that players might get worse the more minutes they play. There exists an optimization of minutes between, say, Oweh and his sub. Maybe it’s 35 minutes for Oweh and just 5 for his sub. I don’t know that off the top of my head.

It’s only a big deal because Pope mentions it in press conferences. If there exists an optimal amount of bench player minutes that’s greater than zero, then stating starters make mistakes because they are tired is really a backhanded way to say our subs suck. We play starters longer than their optimum out of necessity because our bench is terrible. It’s a polite way to deflect ire from poor bench production.

I think it's Pope's subtle way of reminding everyone that we have injured players (less depth) and hoping people will use that to excuse bad performance.

It’s MENTAL, not physical. Pope projecting HIS burned out mental state on the players. He’s fatigued. It’s a ridiculous excuse.

They’re not, it’s just a dumb excuse hoping people will believe it. There’s a tv time out every 4 mins, the coaches each call a TO in the the first half then there’s always a stupid monitor review that’s equivalent to another TO in the first half. The 2nd half is worse, especially at the end of games cause these guys are like a teenager checking their phone with the “reviews”. And if we are fatigued, then it falls on him for not proper conditioning in the off season and preseason.
