Whose next the coach

With what we're seeing now, how could it be worse? I don't know who would be the answer but our program is a total mess right now. I'm just saying that whoever comes here needs to be a coach from an established program.
I mean this year it can’t get much worse, but it’s not like we weren’t a good team just last year

This. I want to see who comes back next year, he really needs to get a handle on the roster turnover.
And he needs to start recruiting more skilled players (shooters) and not just athletes. We need both. He also needs to run a different, modern offense. Do that and I’d be very happy. We’ll see.

I’m a hard no on Drew. It would eat him up and he’d end up getting us in trouble. I see him as a Bruce Pearl clone.
Same things were said about Cal. He's nothing like Pearl; not the Salesman type.

Yes I think he needs to shake up his coaching staff a little bit too.

We were but I think a lot of fans saw this coming with the OAD. I just don't know what's happened to the Cal we saw at UMASS and Memphis. The entire culture of OAD needs to change.

Ohh, stop it! This sounds so ignorant and entitled. We have been to 2 E8's in the last 3 tournaments and likely make it 3 of 4 if they had a tournament last year. We have won the SEC tournament 2 of the last 3 times it was played as well. We are having a bad start to an already odd season. Just calm your tits.

We can disagree on him. I would not be happy at all if we hired him.
Of course, I'd rather have a Stevens, Donovan or a Mark Few but the reality of the situation is that we're not getting any of those guys.

Nope, I guarantee that if he makes a FF this year he'll be a hot commodity. For the record, I lived in Lexington for over 6 years and in a town about 30 miles from Waco for about 4 years. Baylor may be a good school but Waco is one of the roughest, most dangerous towns in Texas. It's not the quaint Baptist town everyone thinks it is.
One of those schools can have him. I guarantee it won't be a major contender that hires him away.

Lexington crime is breaking records. I think they exceeded their previous highest homicide number in October. Not really a paradise either.

Have to wonder what Cal or anyone else is seeing in these guys at AAU games. None of the can hit the broad side of a barn and they're very soft inside. IMO, they're typical throw back freshmen from years ago and not ready for D-1.
It’s not just Cal. All the ranking systems had them as wonder kids as well. But, that’s because they evaluate based on AAU ball which has ruined the college game. All they look at is athleticism and not basketball skills and I.Q. Cal and many other coaches buy into it. So, we get highly rated recruits that can’t shoot, handle the ball, or play any defense. But, they sure can run fast, jump high, and dunk. The college game is garbage compared to just 20 years ago.

Before you use the terms "ignorant and entitled" let me remind you that I've been following for over 56 years and have never seen anything like this. And what does winning the SECT really do?

No we’re not, but we can do better than Drew. Just my opinion. I’d rather have Beard than Drew and it isn’t close. Personally, I’d take Kenny Payne over either. Yes, I’m serious.

I haven't lived in Lexington for over 38 years and have no clue what's going on there other than what my sister tells me. However, I can tell you that Waco is one of the top towns in Texas for drug offenses and gang crime.

I was actually hoping that John Brannan would do well at UC for a few years. He's a good coach but just doesn't have the experience at this point for a program like UK.

In 56 years you have never seen UK have a bad season or bard start to a season? Must be a selective memory of those 56 years, as I remember several that were a struggle.

Gives you a conference tournament in one of the best conferences the last few years. I don't think programs that are a "disaster" typically win those. Let alone 2 in 3 years.

I would say the drug crimes here are worse. At least in the region as a whole. Lot of meth and heroine in this area. Some of the shooting here have been gang related as well. Had 2 or 3 just this year at the mall that were all gang related. Also been several shootings and issues on campus the last few years as well.

13-13 in 1967, 14-14 in 1974 and the 1985 team started 1-4. But, this team won't win ten games. We'll see how this season is viewed if it ends up something like 8-20. Who is this team going to beat other than bad SEC teams at home, maybe?

I've spent some time in Waco due to proximity and it's almost as if the place is a magnet for crime. I never heard about any of that before moving to Central Texas but that place is rough as hell. You also have a lot of illegals trafficking drugs in Waco.

If your team is dominated by athletes and not pure basketball players you're going to struggle in a structured offensive system. This is what Pitino had figured out with his style of play. As you probably recall, his first teams were primarily top heavy with athletes until he was able to recruit better players.

This team will end up a #5 seed or better in the NCAA tournament.

We aren't as good as expected. Primarily due to the fact we have no true PG. We also need Brooks' experience and depth.

We still have ranked UT and MO teams to play twice each. And Texas. Still several possible quality wins left.

Sounds like you're describing a lot of America currently.
Yeah, it is but Central Texas has a lot of crime issues. Also has a lot of religious cults like the Branch Davidians in Waco years ago.

Not sure if serious.
Why wouldn't I be serious? A prime example is a player like Dirk Minnifield. Great athlete but struggled in a set offensive system. He comes to mind when I watch this current team.

Must have faith. You can see the abilty. Just look at the first 25 minutes today. It's just putting it together for a full game. I think the light is starting to flicker for Askew, which could mean we can start to get the PG issue under control some. If we get Brooks back to help alleviate the foul issues, I like our chances.

The two main issues I see are the PG situation and outside shooting. Also, we just don't have the muscle underneath. In all fairness, we needed to start the season with a few teams like Morehead.

You'll get no argument from me about AAU ball. IMO, it's a scam. My niece played three years of College BB and prior to that was playing in the Summers for an AAU team out of Indianapolis. About ran her family to death and it was very expensive.

Are you being serious? This team will not make the tournament unless it wins the SECT. Just look at the math. We’re 1-5 with a lone win against Morehead. I suspect we get beat by Louisville next week on the road. That’s 6 losses. We still have to play Texas. We’re going to have to improve greatly to beat them, but let’s say we do. That would give us a 2-6 OOC record. We play 18 SEC games. I think we win 10 -12 at best. Ten SEC wins would make us 12-14 overall and 12 wins would make us 14-14. That’s NOT getting us a bid much less a 5 seed or better. It might not even get an NIT bid.

Do you think we go on one hell of a run and beat both Louisville and Texas and then run through the SEC like a buzz saw? Because that’s what it would take. I’ve seen absolutely nothing to indicate that’s remotely possible.

Outside shooting is getting better. We are starting to see Askew and Mintz can hit them pretty well. Boston and Clarke aren't good shooters. They need to attack and stick to mid-range. Allen can shoot, if he ever gets to play....

PG play has been an issue, but I liked what I saw from Askew today, You could tell he was really seeing the floor and trying to run an offense to some degree. At times it looked good.

We are weak with Sarr and Jackson. Ware has some body to him, but he fouls someone just looking at them. Brooks knows the physical nature and has the experience. I think he will pay dividends when we get him back.

Not having the cupcakes to develop with has definitely hurt, as has the changes in pre-season routine with covid. It's been a lot of factors hitting at the right time to further highlight some issues with this team. It happens. Hopefully we can return some guys and be really solid next season.

Lol, ohh yee of little faith. I highly doubt we lose to UL, and the SEC is down this year. UT and MO are the only ranked ones. TX will be a good test, but by then we will be much better. We lose at most 3 -4 more games the rest of the regular season. Very good chance we do with the SEC also.

You said Pitino’s first teams were full of athletes and not players. The absolute opposite is true. We had no athletes unless you consider Farmer, Pelphrey, Feldhaus, and the likes great athletes. LOL. They were pretty skilled players but were no where near great athletes.

Improvement for starters. If you watched the game today, you definitely had to come away thinking the first half they looked much improved. Good even. Now stretch that out to the 2nd half. One of the reasons we have 3 - 4 month seasons is to let teams develop. We have a ways to go, but you can see the potential is starting to crack through a bit.

LOL. I’d sure be willing to put up a LOT of money against that. The SEC is down? You mean a lot worse than Ga. Tech, Norte Dame, Richmond, etc.? I don’t think so. Even our really good teams drop games we shouldn’t in SEC play. The very best we can hope for in the SEC is 12-6 and I don’t see a very good chance for that. I also think we get beat by Louisville (damn I hope I’m wrong here). They aren’t good either, but they don’t have the turmoil going on like we do. Just today we had a player crying on the bench and another walk off before the game was actually over. We’re not a team right now. If Cal were to be able to go on a run like you seem to think is possible, it will be a miracle.
