I'm a big fan of amateur college athletics. But, it's really hard for most Power 5 programs to brag that "we run a cleaner program with no renegade boosters" than those guys. Being a college football fan means you have to accept a certain degree of that, or at least acknowledge how unsurprising it is when it happens. I sat through some awful seasons at Davis Wade. I enjoyed winning and wasn't concerned about what was required to win.

Why? I didn't even remotely write that. Prosecute the dude (he got off lightly) and sanction LSU and other schools that do something similar. Just saying I knew some things and enjoyed winning (nothing as egregious as the LSU thing). Tailgating got better too. Didn't get the vapors finding out how some guys ended up in Starkville. I paid money to watch them play and get us into bowl games.

If fickle wants to leave the state of Ohio his former ad at usc would probably try to get him but fickle hasn't coached our of Ohio. He may just like it there. With Cincinnati joining big 12 may be a lot easier to make playoff there

I’d not realized or considered their bye week being after Ole Miss. But I won’t lie, I would get a fairly large amount of satisfaction of Coach O getting his *** canned after losing at Ole Miss.

I'm sure his agent has been pulling his hair out trying to get him an offer (and maybe to get him to accept; it's still not clear to me that he's ever gotten a job offer). It doesn't make sense for an agent to delay a payday for a year or two in hopes that it will be bigger. The agent would rather have his cut of a 4 year $4M per year deal now than take the chances that he will get a cut of a deal that is 20% better in two years.

He's making $2 million a year in a relatively low cost of living area and has supreme job security for the foreseeable future. As long as he puts together even average (6+ win) seasons in the Sun Belt, he'll remain employed unless there's some sort of scandal.

I don't know his family situation... but he's 42, so I'm assuming at least some of his kids are still young and he may not want to uproot them. He may literally be the unicorn that is not out looking for a high stress Power 5 gig and wants to coast through until he retires or his kids are grown.

I've never been college football coach, but I have to think the work/life balance at ULL is a helluva lot more satisfying than at LSU.
