I don't know but, I do know- Who is the best 5-5 team is in the state, who has the toughest conference, who played the toughest schedule,
who played the weakest schedule, who is most likely to surprise, who got the best draw, so on and so forth. I guess I really don't know about all of that either.

Yogi Berra said it best, “It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.”

My heart says Burns. But realistically our championship window is likely the next 2-3 years with next year being a real shot.

I'm actually gonna go Maiden this year.

Which top seeds have toughest game this week. If Brevard has few players banged up West Stokes may hang around. Some speed in backfield

Love how you're thinking, but Maiden will need much better OL play than they've been getting in order to make a serious run. Honestly, Maiden's OL play, both run blocking and especially pass blocking, has been really bad over the last four games. Not sure how many sacks, QB pressures, and holding penalties they've had over the past four games, but the numbers have to be astronomical. That was understandable against superior teams like Hickory and East Lincoln, but not acceptable against lesser defenses like Bandys and Newton-Conover. Maiden had some really bad luck against N-C, and could have won the game despite the bad OL play. But, aside from some bad luck, the main reason N-C, roughly a 10-point underdog against Maiden, beat us was that their much quicker off the ball DL absolutely dominated our OL. If that doesn't change, Maiden will have a really difficult time beating N-C in the anticipated re-match in the third round.

Along that same subject line, and sorry if I missed it, but does anyone know the status of Maiden guard Baylor Duncan? Is he out for the season, or does he have a chance to play at some point in the playoffs, hopefully sooner rather than later?

He's back. Coaches have made OL a priority these two weeks. Trust me it hasn't gone unnoticed!

Trust me our kids have heard (from their own coaches) Texas A&M Johnny Manziel is rolling into Cramer on Friday. Looking forward to seeing him in person. Also hoping we are the last ones to see him in person. Should be a very entertaining game.
Not saying y'all can't win. Just saying y'all have one of the toughest games this week.

Thanks for the good news. Much appreciated. I honestly believe we have the team to make a run this year if we can get better OL play. Our QB is pretty accurate with his throws when he isn't being constantly pressured, and RB Wingate gives 100% every time he touches the ball. Glad to hear the OL has been under the microscope the past two weeks. Hope that pays off against N-C, assuming that we can get past a good North Surry team this Friday. Never any guarantees.

You're spot on. NS having #3 back changes their dynamic a lot. They used him sparingly in the Salisbury game...we'll get a full dose. He's a threat to score everytime he touches the ball.

How does he compare to the athletes at wideout for Maiden? It appears they got 4 out there that can go get one. Was at the Watauga scrimmage early in the year and was impressed by the physicality of Maiden.

Yes, all 5 receivers can catch well. Two might try to chest some passes instead of using their hands some, leading to some drops. Three of those 5 have the speed to score at anytime and they all break tackles decently (2 of them very well).

I would compare #3 to our #7.

We're definitely more physical now than we were then. Then we were still figuring out our identity as a defense...now those guys are all gas no brakes. Defensive Coordinator and his staff have done a great job coaching these kids and helping them find the essence of what a Maiden Defense is all about.
