We've been discussing this thread for 3 pages now and the obvious most sensible thing hasn't even been brought up. What's guru gary-7 saying. OFC

He hasn't got time, Sky, he's still totaling up the blown assists, blown blocks, all the phantom fouls called on the Heels last night. It's not easy being a world renowned statistician like Gary.

Did he even see the game? Last I heard he was sputtering down 501 with 2 other Hole buddies on the moped. Probably got a flat tire or wobbled into a ditch

I don't know if he saw the game live, but I bet ya he's watched it at least 5 times since, and freeze framed every single basket Berry made, assist, rebound, whatever. And during all this 'tape analysis' he's had multiple organisms while watching his idol. It'll never get better than that for Gary. That's got to be one messy recliner.

For some reason, I think Giles stays another year to prove to NBA scouts that he can get healthier and unleash his true potential. I don't think he's a top 5 pick this year.

I wonder - what team would actually draft Giles given his play this year? (in the 1st round that is. Otherwise it's not a guaranteed deal and he has to make the team).

I also have to wonder if Giles will ever be much of an NBA player. He has to get healthy where he can play at 100% to make it in the NBA. He has no real game right now. He's not a physical force inside - he plays finesse. He's a small forward in the NBA. But, he doesn't show great quickness with his knees as they are and he'd get crushed by an NBA SF. He also has not had much opportunity to develop his game on the floor and outside.

If I'm him I'd stay and get an education and see what happens. But, if it really looks certain that he's going top 20, then do that because he gets a sweet guarantee.

If his name wasn't harry giles he'd be at Duke again next year. Harry just comes with expectation but if we went into every season with no mock projections he wouldn't of fallen because he wouldn't of been listed

I'd hate to be in Giles shoes to a degree, much like Obi, I just feel sorry for the kid although Giles has potential to bounce back. If Giles is this slow to adjust to college, I wonder how long it'll take to adjust to the NBA, but at least he can get paid to adjust if he goes.

in regards to harry, is it the health or is it the mental hurdle to go out and not have the worry of his knees on his mind....i think it is more mental now???

Definitely more mental. I think he will be back to 100% health wise in a few months. Can't say I blame him for not being over that mental hurdle yet.

If you look at the possibility next year we could only have 8 scholarship guys if my calculations are correct and we do not land Duval
Jackson
Trent
O'Connell
Vrank
Javin
Jeter (Is a huge question mark in my opinion)
Carter
White

This one an done is killing college basketball. I get we had 3 freshman in 2015 that helped win us a ship but it has to be a nightmare for coaches when kids leave when they are not supposed to.

In latest NBA Draft.net Grayson isn't even in top two rounds. Bet he returns. Luke was #22.

As of right now, and this can change, here's how I read the tea leaves.

Jayson and Harry - 100% gone
Marques - probably in the 80-90% range gone
Luke - 75% gone
Grayson - still over 60% just because it's been the plan all along
Frank - 25% gone
Obviously both Amile and Matt gone to graduation

The team will look quite different next season, IMO.

100% agree. OAD isnt just killing it for coaches, I would argue that its killing it for fans too. Just from my personal point of view, I prefer to see players stay with programs for at least 3 years, watch them grow with the team and become better players vs a OAD breeze in, under achieve and under deliver ( 2015 being the exception) its very frustrating. ESPN Classic had the 1992 team playing UNC the other day - it was great to revisit that team and watch them play Duke basketball

I doubt he is top 20. I have seen nothing from him that shows NBA. Maybe they do, I have been wrong a lot of times before . He is a head scratcher for sure. He just looks too fragile to play bump and run BB.

I don't normally post on the free board strictly on the premium board. I would say that having the OAD players is important to win a National Title. I know people will talk 2010 and that's a good point but I got equally aggravated with 2005-2009 when Duke got bounced early on and did not look good in the SweetSixteen games either. Next year will be different that's for sure. Hopefully Duke gets improvement from the players that did not play much this year they will be needed

Blew out my knee in college and had five knee surgeries and never trusted my knee afterwards.Mental part was the biggest thing for me

Giles goes in the top 19!
Grayson had been off draft boards since the suspension
Like it are not a lot rest on what feed back they all get from scouts and imo, Tatum, Giles, Luke and even Boldin hear what they need and make the jump

Ironically, if you look at this year's mock vs. next year's on NBADraft.net, next year's team will have more talent (this is obviously assuming Bolden, Grayson come back).

Current 2017 Mock

6. Tatum
13. Giles
23. Kennard

Current 2018 Mock

3. Wendell Carter
9. Gary Trent, Jr.
27. Marques Bolden
29. Grayson Allen

It also has, Duval, Bamba, Knox at 5,6,7.

You really can't. Wasn't one of his injuries do to a go guy deliberately trying to hurt him? Pretty sure I heard him say that in a interview.

I'm betting Grayson stays and gets his jersey retired. I'm about 60-40Why not? He's not ready for the NBA imo..Kennard imo a better prospect based on pretty much everything but athleticism. He's not behind there by much. I think he stays one more year, if not 2 . I'm 55-45..lol. We win the natty this year I might get a little worried though. Bolden I think he stays also. Nowhere near ready imo. I'm at 85- 15 ..If I were a big man I would go to N Carolina. Seeing how this has played out. No way bamba comes here.95-0. Giles I'm 50-50 .Tatums 100-0 gone. Jackson I'm 75-25 he stays another year .If he continues to break out in the tourney it could get interesting ..out of everybody I hope he stays the most..Think about how good this kid is going to be next year .Im practically drooling .you think Kennards good his second year .. Knox I'm 70-30 he comes here..Duval is the guy I want I'm about 90- 10 he comes here. So important . If we get him and nobody else I'll be happy . We'll be a title contender with just him imo .I'm a little concerned about his character though. Irving being his fav player and him visiting from time to time helps us here and of course having played here. I just hope we don't get too hyped next year and I don't hear the we're so talented ,we're going to be unstoppable ,40- 0 talk , we're stacked etc..Even though I was one of the ones too lol.Who starts if this plays out?? Might be another tough year for K. I'll also bet at least 1 guy transfers . My wishful starters ....Duval Jackson Kennard Carter Bolden..think about the pick and roll and pop with this lineup..I hear carters working on his outside game a little.. Then you got bolden there .Dang ..two great shooters on the outside ..How do you have Allen Trent Knox coming off the bench ..JD White Jeter what you do with them ? Vfrank? who I like a lot ...Then If Giles stays 1 more year ..lol now that I've wrote this out I don't think anybody stays!!! Lol.hard to imagine these guys coming back now ..were either going to be really good or struggle ..Duval Knox Carter Jeter Trent ?! (If these guys even commit that is) lol ..going to be a very imterestimg offseason..btw zions a beast number 2 ain'tBad either that plays with him anybody got his name? To much to think about I've wrote this for nothing ..

Can't put much weight into these mock drafts until the college season begins though. Look at 2017 mock drafts around this time last year for instance. Tatum and Giles were both projected top 10 picks, Bolden in the lottery, Grayson and even Frank were thought of as first rounders as well. Who knows, those 2018 mocks might be significantly shuffled around as well once next season gets going.

That's why it's a mock draft until the combine or kids start declaring. Some are for sure gone before they hit the college floor like Tatum and Giles. The season is just where their stock rises or falls.
Then you have draft specialist that might get a drop which kids are staying put so they remove them or by kids play they take them off. If I was a draft specialist I'd remove Bolden for sure, but get him to the combine with a true pg he could show out work his self right into the first round.

I've got several tarhole buddies telling me Knox will go higher than Carter in the draft. I'm offering 100 bucks a bet for each of them , no takers yet.
If you get takers, let them know there are others who'd take the same bet (me, all day). There is no way (barring some nasty injury) Knox goes before Carter. Carter is clearly a much better player.

8 scholies is enough but the talent of those 8 scholies is the question mark. Jackson will be the only one of those 8 that I would trust going into game 1

To me if the staff knows that all these players are leaving then they would be going hard after at least one or two more guys. Cause looking like 3 for sure in and 6-7 out. Mabye they know someone is coming back

Probably more likely he is there 3 seasons unless Roy actually gives him more freedom. if he goes to unc. It took 3 seasons for Roy to give Jackson freedom to make plays and be more than a set shooter role.

I'm sure there's a plan in place and the staff isn't just sitting idly by. Also, there's the grad transfer route....which won't be cleared up for another 4-6 weeks.

This is how I've envisioned our team looking for a couple weeks now. The second unit I listed in order of most minutes played. Obviously still a lot of questions marks - Allen, Kennard, Bolden, Jeter, Jackson, Duval, Knox, Bamba.

Duval, 6'3 Fr
Jackson, 6'3 So
Allen, 6'5 Sr
Carter, 6'9 Fr
Bolden, 6'11 So

Trent, 6'5 Fr
Javin, 6'10 So
Vrank, 7'0 Jr
O'Connell, 6'5 Fr
White, 6'7 So

I actually hope Allen goes pro I mean between the drama, ups and downs, injuries, I can't take much more ..love the guy and wish him the best but he has his degree and a title ..hopefully 2!! go get paid. I appreciate everything he's done imo just not much to improve upon his potential .
