Whatever scenario is worse for UNC is better for us in my mind. Louisville is just a city school in the same state as Kentucky and poses no threat to us, historically or otherwise. UNC is much higher up on the college basketball totem pole. There is actually a segment of the population who believes they are a superior program to us. In short, UNC matters more.
Nailed it for me.
Louisville has lucked out in a supreme way by having its two best coaches back-to-back, uninterrupted, and that's been their last few decades. And even after all that, they still couldn't crack the top 6 programs.
Even if the program wasn't about to be hit with probation, there's no way they'd be able to match Rick (a top 5/10 coach) with their next hire.
And now that they're known as little brothel, their options are going to be way more limited. Their rapid ascension on the back of HOFers is now going to come to a plateau.
UNC, on the other hand, was catching up to us in terms of overall history, they were the "sexy program" for the last two generations growing up, they have the easiest time recruiting, and it was always seen as the best HC job in D1, the only one better than the UK job.
In short, Louisville doesn't matter that much. If you live outside Kentucky and its neighboring states, a lot of people don't even know the University of Louisville exists. People up here in the Boston area hear that I'm a UK fan, and they ask who our rival is, and then typically haven't heard of UL.
I tell them that's where Pitino went to rot, and that's all they know of it now.
UNC always matters. As much as they've made a joke of their "Carolina way" crap and all that is good and holy, they are as important to CBB as we are. So take 'em down a peg.
