I never said this about Bo, but Frost is smarter than you. It was impossible to know how far the program had fallen when he took the job, and he wasn't going to turn the offer because the team was bad. Not only were we one of the worst teams in the nation last year but we lost every scholarship qb, and our entire team sat and did nothing for a month before Frost got there. In comparison he kicked off a number of UCF guys during the first season and even pointed to it when he described the process of going from 0-12 to 12-0. Frost is selling out fully that culture will turn bad football players into good ones, and he needs that to be true because the cupboard is very bare. He has a large number of kids that were o.k being the one of the worst in the nation last year, when things got tough, they quit, stopped working in practice, and packed it in. They have no allegiance to NU or the fans. I think it is fair to take his assessment of the situation "it could get worse before it gets better", but it is always darkest before the dawn. Not sure that is scientifically accurate but...

Frost scored a 38 on the wonderlic. Eli manning scored a 39. Bo scored a 45

And we need to be more consistent on the offensive line. Because you are correct... we had quite a few successful running plays. And so you start to think that our line is doing its job and dominating, so keep running. But then, wham! Ozigbo gets thrown for a four yard loss or Washington loses two yards or Bell gets stuffed. The line play was all over the map
Frost said the OL isn’t used to the fast offense and that they get tired. Understandable that they wouldn’t be 100% solid on every play. You can’t bring in faster, better skilled players and not do the same on the OLine. Your OLine has to evolve to run this offense.

With all due respect to coach Frost (since I agree our line got tired toward the end) the fatigue factor only goes so far to explain our line's inconsistent play. Our line was missing assignments on our very first drives and throughout much of the first half. Our line just isn't very good right now. And I don't expect coach Frost to just come out and say that. Do you? ha.

In my very amateurish analysis of the game, it seemed to me that without Martinez, Troy was able to ignore the QB part of the read option plays. In fact, we did not run many of those plays. Troy just focused on changing things up a lot on the line to take away our inside game and confused our guys who were clearly not communicating with each other very well. And when we went outside with the run they brought the safeties effectively, which means our receivers weren't blocking worth **** either. So, in essence, they were daring Bunch to throw the ball, knowing too that our line cannot pass block since they have a slow first step.

Frost's offense is always going to have some inconsistent looking plays, even with the best talent you can see them break off 3 long runs and then get stuffed and lose 3 yards. In part because of the way he's trying to force the defense to defend more gaps than they have people, it also puts us at risk of a stunt breaking into the play. Some of that goes away when you have more experienced OL play, but a lot of it depends on us being able to force safeties off the LOS and by making sure the D has to defend sideline to sideline. If we can't do that, the OL is going to look bad at times.

Troy had an aggressive defensive front that attacked those problem areas without worrying about Bunch beating them downfield or on the outside flats

While I agree that they played poorly, I think that even a good line would have looked bad running that system with our more limited options on Offense.

I think I upset some people with this post and that was not my intentions. I will word things differently in the future and I in no way was wanting a witch hunt or to single out players... I was simple looking for a discussion on who we thought was lagging a little. My apologizes to anyone that was upset, I am 100% on board with Frost and his entire staff. I knew this season was going to have it's bumps but was ready to ride them all out. I know we will improve and I am still as excited about the future as I was when the Frost rumors were flying around last year. Go Big Red, and hopefully we can give Michigan all they can handle in the Big House this weekend....
