Which one are we wrong about: Lee or Wiltjer?

The speed and agility tests at the combine would lead you to believe that Wiltjer is the better athlete, or at least an equivalent athlete. Equal max vertical. Wiltjer had better times on the lane agility and shuttle run. Lee was slightly better at the 3/4-court sprint and standing vertical.

So, is Lee not really the human pogo-stick/athletic freak that we thought? Or is Kyle Wiltjer not actually less mobile than a tree?

WOW! Can't believe they had equivalent/similar times in some of those agility drills.

I could've sworn that Lee WAS quick and athletic. And I would've bet the house that a tree could outrun Wiltjer.

So confused...

Just wondering who here thought Lee was an 'athletic freak' other than the people telling him he should jump to the NBA?

I never thought Lee was as athletic as talked about on here but I also never would have guessed that his numbers would be close to Wiltjer . Maybe timing from volleyball helped him more than anything else on lobs .

What's the over under on games into the next season before someone posts that Wiltjer would have been a big help? I'm thinking 6.

Is this a serious post? I don't know about the words "athletic freak" in particular, but pretty much every person that watches Lee in person comments on his great athleticism. I'm pretty sure Cal has mentioned it, it's in most scouting reports on Lee, and that's why he was ranked so highly out of high school.

I just quickly found something on coachcal.com, but the guy refers to Lee's "usual mind boggling athleticism."

Watching day 2 of the combine..... Lee shouldnt of attended. He is absolutely murdering his stock. The NBA might not even want him in the NBDL.....

there's a huge difference between one set vert and being bouncy with second and third jumps.
I've never felt Lee was a supreme leaper but he is bouncy.

My definition of bouncy doesn't include Marcus Lee.

I've never thought he was that athletic either. He can't dribble and walk at the same time. I thought before the season that if we had to rely on Lee for anything, we were in trouble. Turns out his position was a major hole. He completely disappeared when needed the most. I'm sure he's a great kid but he is a terrible basketball player

I'm jsut scratching my head why we didn't have 95% certainty this was reality long before now. Lee was a dime a dozen PF/C in college. Most every team in SEC has skinny/no skill guys just like him. There isn't one thing about him that stands out.

Max vert isn't a great indicator of athleticism. Standing verts and how quick their second jump is are more important. Kevin Love had the same max vert as Blake Griffin at their NBA Combine

Lee may not be trying as hard as Wiltjer; reports from everywhere seem to suggest Lee is "coasting". Which seems crazy, unless he has already planned to return or concided to Europe or the D-league.

In Cal's system you must be able to play defense. Wiltger could not. He went to a situation where that was not so important and he thrived. Good for him. Lots of luck in the NBA..

These stats on Lee are just insane. It's hard to believe the kid barely posted better times than Kyle Wiltjer. As much as i have watched both of these kids play in college, it sure doesn't look like it on the court. After learning about these numbers, i think more people should be mad at Kyle on the D side of the ball. He must not be as slow and unatheletic as we all thought. I don't know why Lee has had the jump out of the gym saying thrown around while talking about him. We all knew the kid could get up, but even i thought some Kentucky fans overhyped Lee's hops while talking about his skillset. I will admit this surprises me as well. I thought the kid was a lil more atheletic than this showing. After this, i don't know if the kid has a shot at the D league or not. I highly doubt it.

Sounds like Lee has just completely laid an egg at the combine. I've seen nothing but really bad reports on him, yet he still wants to leave.

Wonder if it's too late for him to return to volleyball, apparently he was damn good at that sport and, sad truth is, the dude's really just not a basketball player. He fooled people into thinking he was simply because he was tall and could jump really high. But he has no instincts or skills for the game all all, other than jumping and dunking.

Lee and Wiltjer are completely different players. Neither is particularly athletic although Lee is blessed with leaping ability and long arms. Defensively, Wiltjer is a statue while Lee has enough quickness to defend a little bit. But Lee has no offensive skills whatsoever, while Wiltjer has good scoring skills. The story with these 2 players is about their limitations. Lee isn't strong enough for the NBA, and can't score except occasional putbacks and dunks. Wiltjer will be eaten alive by professional players because of his defensive shortcomings. I don't think either will ever make an NBA roster although Wiltjer has a chance as a role player in the right system.

At any level you win games by putting the ball in the basketball "ring". If you can't do that you lose. We tend to forget that a lot recently. On our last team our 3 most common front line starters couldn't hit a lay up consistently. At some point you need players who can score the ball.

Marcus = Dennis Rodman Light

Marcus can run, jump, rebound, & dunk....just probably won't happen in the NBA.

Dennis Rodman was an elite rebounder, probably the best ever. While he didn't have any offensive skills, he was elite on defense and on the boards. Marcus Lee doesn't have any skills he can hang his hat on. The NBA just isn't a league for him, he can have long prosperous career in Europe though.

First of all Marcus is a bad rebounder. He's a decent college player who showed last year he isn't UK material or NBA material. That's fine, but everyone dissecting this is wasting time. He is what he is.

D Rodman? You mean a quick And bouncy Perry Stevenson?(perry was actually better than Lee IMO.)

Some of these comparisons kill me. That's like saying Derrick Jasper is Steve Nash lite because he could pass some. Rod man is the greatest rebounder of his day. Come on man.

KS & S.&C. Guess I should've explained better...I agree with your take.

That's what I meant...Rodman had zero offensive skills, similar to Marcus, but he was able to turn himself into a NBA all star with pure hustle & determination...i.e. rebounding & defense. That's what Marcus should be trying to turn himself into, but it ain't gonna happen. I'm in no way inferring he's as good as Rodman or would ever get close. Just saying that's all he's got to offer...rebound & defense and he doesn't even do that.

How about a poor man's Dennis Rodman?

Come on man. It doesn't matter what some drill says. Common sense says Lee is a much better athlete than Wiltjer. BUT. I think Wiltjer has a better chance to stick around in the NBA than Lee does.

I think some people really forget how good of an NBA player Dennis Rodman was. Either that or you're overrating Lee. No Rodman didn't score even 10PPG but he averaged like 20 boards per game for multiple years. He was a very valuable piece to those great Bulls teams man.

Lee has no skills because he can't stay on the floor for more than 5 minutes at a time. I've never seen a player commit so many stupid/frustrating fouls. And then act like he didn't do anything. One foul per 2 minutes mark it down
