Where is the Coaching

Many of us have yelled it during the season, after a play or even sometimes before a play. Post your top two or three plays that get you steamed up when a player or a coach does something that you believe should have been drilled into him over the years. My top two are;
1) Receiving a punt between the 5 yard line and the goal line. And even worse fare catching it. Get out of the way and hope it gets into the endzone. Even fake the catch to the left or right from where it is coming down, possibly moving the defender away from the actual landing. I was taught let it drop within the five. That is number one on my list.
2) Not having the players on the field for that package of plays. Especially not having a back or TE in the game when a play calls for it. You have a RB and TE coach that controls who is in and not in. The results always end in a burnt time out.

receiving punts inside the 5 is driving me nuts.

not sure if this really fits here... but the 3rd and long qb run up the middle was annoying.

Passes backwards where the receiver comes to a complete stop facing the wrong direction.

The returner catching it inside his own 10 is awful. Couldn't agree more with that. It's even worse when it's arguably NU's best player doing it.

False start penalties on a WR. We've had one in each of the last two games. Should really never happen.

Failing to center the ball prior to a big kick. The fact that Frost said they hadn't practiced that (Vedral just knew to do it) was concerning.

I will add Coach Held said his guys wouldn't be wearing sleeves because it makes it difficult to feel the ball. I know he's the RB coach, but that should have applied to all of the skill guys and a lot of them were wearing sleeves. That's definitely something that the coaches could have controlled.

Our two weakest position groups...special teams/outside Lb and WR both have coaches who have double duty. That bothers me. Maybe many schools have guys doing double roles but special teams is as important as defense and offense when it comes to pure statistics and w/l...and how can a coach be worried about the entire offense and wrs. Why not have Ruud do both lb positions?

I can't believe we don't have someone better than Spielman returning punts. Did he ever even return punts in high school? We have like 7 or 8 players on the team who returned punts in high school and we choose the only one that didn't.

How difficult is it to teach "Put your heels on the 10 yd. line, and if the ball is going over your head, get out of the way and let it go!!" DO NOT FIELD THE BALL INSIDE YOUR 10 YARD LINE!!!

How long should it take to learn this point? Should it take one time stating it, or should it still be taking place in fking game 19 of the regime??? I'm sorry, our special teams coach needs to go. Immediately!!

WR false starts are brutal!

I'm afraid one of these times our punt returner will lose track of where he is, and fair catch the ball in the end zone.

Fielding punts. Just no. Coming out after a kickoff return and getting a penalty like we didn't know we had to go out and play an offensive series. Two things that are 100% on the coaching staff and especially HCSF.

Stuff that is taught in high school. Way too many times did I see OL standing around watching the play. A RB is being tackled by a few guys and instead of pushing the pile the OL just stand there and watch. How many times did Minnesotas OL push their RB 5 extra yards?. Not us, we are too big and tough for that because our coaches told us how much stronger we are this year compared to last year.

It's a young staff with limited experience. The Big 10 is a heck of a training ground but hopefully they'll learn and improve.
It's not a coincidence that our two weakest positions are the ones with the least experienced coaches (Ruud and Austin).

How many punts has Spielman returned for TDs? I know at least 1 last year, 1 this year... with our disastrous special teams play... maybe you’re barking up the wrong tree on this one.

Wasn't it 'coaching by committee' at the beginning of the year?

Most facets of the team look poorly coached. They can't even block or tackle. Why should they know not to field a punt inside the 10?

ILB and OLB in the 3-4 are wildly different. He’d be spread so thin during Indy time that he’d get nothing accomplished.

We’ll see how good the coaching is after a game off and two weeks to prepare, we may not like what the results are or we just might. Be advised, however, it will probably be another struggle to attain victory, but we all know that.

Count me as intrigued to know how they respond with two weeks to get ready. The MN game doesn’t have to define them.
We may not be able to expect miracles, but we should absolutely expect improvement.
