If your players getting drafted into the NBA don't some what match the demography of the NBA as far as shoe deals go...you should be a little worried about this FBI investigation. Nike controls about 64% of the NBA , Adidas controls about 18%, Jordan brand about 8%, UA around 3%

Now, your players that are going into the NBA, their shoe deals should some what match those numbers, in other words...somewhere around 65% of your kids should be signing Nike deals. This is where the FBI could potentially see smoke, and start digging when your numbers don't line up, especially if your draftees start turning down bigger money to sign with a different company.

Why I am not worried about Kentucky, UK is a Nike school...but, if Nike was funneling money to kids to get them to go to UK, Then lets look at Kentucky's NBA lottery picks...

UK has had what, 16 lottery picks under John Calipari? 15 or 16.. Patterson was here already, Calipari didn't recruit him...call it 15 or 16, doesn't matter.

John Wall- Signed with Reebok, then Addidas
Brandon Knight- Adidas
Jamal Murray-Adidas
Andrew Harrison, I know he wasn't lottery, but he was a top ranked recruit...he chose UA, sound like Nike was giving out money for kids to attend Nike schools then sign with Nike?

Kentucky is slightly over the 65% NBA demography, but those numbers are a bit skewed because while Nike holds contracts with 65%, they hold quite a bit less than that with kids who attended Adidas schools...which is odd.

Now, if you are an Adidas School...and you have had Lottery picks from 2010 to 2017
Josh Jackson- UA
Andrew Wiggens- Adidas
Joel Imbiid- Adidas
Ben McLemore- Adidas
Thomas Robinson- UA
Xavier Henry -?
Col Aldrich- Adidas
Not to mention Kelly Oubre Jr who didn't go lottery but was a top recruit and first rounder, signed with Adidas...

All of a sudden, I would be at least a little bit scared. Especially when you had Articles being written in 2013 talking about an Adidas shoe deal for Wiggens, before he was even in college. And when you had other kids (Joel Imbiid) who turned down more money from Nike, to sign with Adidas...I'd be REALLY scared!! And notice, 5 of your top 8 draft picks signing with Adidas is suspect enough, then add in the fact that 0% signed with Nike...and it gets really weird. And I would be REALLY scared!! All of sudden it starts to look like these kids are being directed to an Adidas school, and Adidas contracts after school...and not only that, it even appears as if the deal is, you don't have to sign with Adidas, but you can't sign with Nike...we will leave UA, Reebok etc in the mix so Adidas has to compete with someone to keep it fair for you....just not Nike, Adidas' biggest competitor. RED FLAG!!!

Where do you find out which shoe company the NBA players have signed with?

The narrative is definitely Adidas and even Vitale can't spin this any other way.

Josh Jackson's AAU team in high school was sponsored by UA
Wiggins AAU Team in high school was sponsored by Adidas
Joel Embiid's high school team was sponsored by Adidas
Ben McLemore's AAU team was sponsored by Adidas (his coach did admit to taking money to influence him)

Wall's AAU team was Adidas
Knight's AAU team was Reebok

So if you go even further back, you can find a direct line between some of these kids (done by their handlers) and what school they end up with, finally with what company they sign with once making it to the NBA.

Kansas star Josh Jackson also played for Christian Dawkins and Dorian’s Pride.

KSR this morning:

The good people over at WDRB have now linked Christian Dawkins, the sports agent charged in the federal probe into college basketball recruiting, to Jaylen Johnson.

According to WDRB’s new story, Dawkins is the former director of the Dorian’s Pride AAU basketball team in Michigan, and Johnson was one of Dawkins’ star players in the summer of 2013. Johnson committed to Louisville in September of 2013 and left early for the NBA after this past season.

The Dawkins-Johnson connection was not cited in this week’s FBI report, but it provides another link in the Dawkins-Louisville connection.

Google?

Morris twins both signed with AND 1... still looking for the first Nike contract.

Lmao “AND 1 is still a thing ??

Also, honest question. Ok so Brandon Knight, Jamal Murray ... other “non super stars” (John Wall, Davis , cousins etc ) ( at least not yet ) have shoe deals. Harrison does? Does a shoe deal with Nike, Jordan, UA , adidas etc entail more** than your own line of shoes?

I’ve never seen a Brandon Knight shoe, or a Harrison shoe or a booker shoe etc etc

What is is Involved when a player signs a contract with Nike (especially fresh out of college) appearing commercials ? Ads ?

Very strange. Can anyone find any former Kansas player that has signed with Nike? I checked Mario Chalmers and apparently he signed with Spalding. Odd.

Right, it's funny...we all missed it, nobody noticed anything until after the FBI released their findings...I started digging yesterday on my own..that is when I realized nobody from Kansas has signed with NIKE, that is a huge puff of smoke, there is fire there.

Yep I looked up Mitchell a while ago, not surprised with the others. It's pretty glaring for the "powerhouse" adidas schools.

Some of the deals are small amounts of money and lots of free merchandise.

Not a whole lot get massive cash deals, and even fewer get signature lines.

As an aside, I have considered that we've lost some traction in recruiting expressly because we didn't funnel all of our guys to Nike.

It "feels" like Duke took over Nike's favored program status in the recent past. For some reason.

Although Adidas landed Brandon Ingram just a year ago.

I'm actually fascinated to get more info on exactly how this whole world works. We've known this stuff was going on forever, but having the details is great.

And I might be the only one who won't freak out even if we are caught up in it peripherally.

I think what's happening to Louisville is hilarious. It's good theater. But I'll honestly just sort of shrug my shoulders if it comes out that some of our players picked up their bags.

I would prefer that the coaches weren't involved, obviously, but you can't control everything.

Man you'd think it were so cut and dry that KU was involved in this that they would be at the front of the line on who they caught red handed. I mean KU is a blueblood(maybe not to some here...or most). They need to be made an example of.

I mean all the "clues" are there right? What are they waiting for?

I'm starting to believe Cal finds out and stops recruitment when he picks up the scent of agents, handlers and bad shoe dealers.

They're waiting to get into adidas' books to see who else got paid. Adidas is cooperating with the FBI. Every adidas school should be scared.

They had an informant who gave them University 6. They will find the others by following the money.

This is pure speculation. 3 years undercover and somehow only 10 arrests. If anything I'd be willing to bet plea deals are going to be handed out to get guys to talk and that will just bust the roof off everything and not just Adidas schools. Every school should be worried. Whether it's an assistant coaches shady dealing behind their coaches back or like Pitino straight up involved in paying players.

Yes, it just means you wear their shoes. Hardly anyone gets their own shoe. A lot of guys wear Jordan’s and Lebron’s. Most players get less than a million a year on these deals, but nearly every player has one. Kind of like golfers and their apparel.

Gotcha. Well that’s a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Even if you’re not a “superstar “ you get PAID to wear cool Nike shoes, dri fit clothes, jerseys, gear , swag etc etc
