Not when do you want him to play, and don't give your cynical answer either. When do you really think he will play.
100% agree.IMO, that he was given a number (21) and that publicized by UK says he will play. They didn't do that with Diallo.
I think Cal will say "he isn't close" until the moment he first sends him to the scorers table.
The longer Wheeler is out, the more likely we see him.
I also think his first game won't be a high profile game, that Cal will want him to get his feet wet in a game that we should win, (although TAMU will be tough road game for us).
He doesn't have to play Sharpe a ton of minutes though. Even just a few minutes, if he's able to perform at the level we all hope, could do wonders for this team and have minimal impact on chemistry.Whether you believe it or not, playing him will mess with team chemistry to some degree. There's no way for it not to. Players will lose minutes. Come March, Cal will primarily only be playing eight players, so adding Sharpe will push one player to the bench. Some players might resent another player who hasn't had to put in all they work they had to.
All of this is human nature. Cal knows this, of course, and will plan accordingly. If he does play, all will look hunky dory on the floor. We won't be privy to any behind-the-scenes drama.
But to answer the question, I think he'll play in mid February. And Cal will see how his teammates respond.

I agree 100%. As long as the team is moving along smoothly I don't believe he will play. Why would he?Whether you believe it or not, playing him will mess with team chemistry to some degree. So start him out with a couple of 5 minute segments. That won't mess up team chemistry. It's not as if this team has been playing together for decades. I don't buy the chemistry argument, because that's what practices are for. And this team plays very unselfishly so unless Sharpe is a ballhog, he should mesh just fine.Whether you believe it or not, playing him will mess with team chemistry to some degree. 4 guards and Oscar is a killer lineup.Sharpe won't be taking anyone's minutes that deserves them. We have 120 minutes at the 1-3 and that is 24 minutes per game for Sharpe, TyTy, Mintz, Wheeler and Grady. I think we can steal some minutes at the 4 as well to get their minutes up...this isn't communism so all 5 won't play equal minutes but TyTy, Sharpe, and Grady will get the most if I had to guess by March.
I do not really care if Sharpe playing hurts Collins or Hopkins or Wares feelings. The rotation will be the 5 guards above and Oscar/Brooks/Toppin for when it matters in March.
That is a damn good team IMO and would put them against anyone.
I agree with that mostly.Whether you believe it or not, playing him will mess with team chemistry to some degree. There's no way for it not to. Players will lose minutes. I agree, and if he is as good as advertised, the players will see that in practice and probably tell Cal that he needs to play a little. Perhaps that's what Cal is waiting for so that he can alleviate any hurt feelings. As much as fans want to win, the players want to win even more.So start him out with a couple of 5 minute segments. Yeah, I don't see him debuting on the road in a hostile environment. Think it will be at home in a game we're comfortably in the lead. My gut still says Feb.I’m biased on if road or home. I can see it being at home for the fans and less hostile environment but, also maybe more pressure at home for his debut. I voted mid Feb
If you have seen them play you know it will NOT be a blow out, especially at their place. If the Texas A&M game is a blow out I could see him getting a few minutes to see how he looks.
But never just right.Whenever it is, it will absolutely, unequivocally, without a doubt, be way too late and too early.
You want his first college game to be on the road versus a Top 10 team? How did TyTy play against Duke on a neutral site in his first game?Kansas
