When will cal get a elite big

We haven’t really had a freshman big man stud since KAT or Bam so when will cal get another one I know Nick is elite right now but he wasn’t a immediate impact player like a AD or a Cousins
I'm really hoping we land Greg Brown. I know he isn't a typical big, but he's a great talent and someone that could pay the position in small ball. Especially with the guys we have coming in next year. Texas has lost 3 straight and Shaka's seat is getting hot. I have even seen reports saying Texas has their eye on Bread of TT. Texas isn't going to make the Tourney and have had great bigs like Bama and J. Allen and done nothing. They are currently projected to finish 1 game above .500 by the NET website. So I don't see him ending up there. Memphis lost again tonight to SMU so there's a chance they don't make the Tourney if they don't win their conference Tourney. That's another loss coming off the 40 point defeat to Tulsa. I think we are looking more and more like the landing spot for Greg.

It is a fair question and puzzling (outside of blatant cheating to get elite bigs to some schools).

1. Cal is almost a slam dunk to get elite bigs to go high in the draft by developing them, putting a system around them to showcase what NBA bigs need to do, etc... Outside of Skal I can hardly find a big that underplayed his skill before UK to what he ended up playing in college. Cuz, Nerlens, AD, KAT and now Nick are bigtime bigs in college. Heck even Jorts had a cup of coffee in NBA which was unheard of. Dakari is a guy who simply had KAT over recruit him and then Dakari left too soon.

2. Isn't Cal a better bet at bigs vs. his pedigree which is PG? And I think Cal is a magician with PG prospects but I think he's even a bit better with the bigs.

Why guys like Bamba, Zimmerman, Isiah Stewart, etc...go to schools like Washington, Texas, UNLV, etc.. are just risking it for very little sense. We'll see if Penny Hardaway can churn out good bigs as looks like he's the next guy to pull guys away from UK to Memphis.

I like Greg Brown. He's super athletic but needs to add some bulk. Banchero and Cisse together would be a nightmare for opponents although neither may reclass to 2020. I think alot of people are gonna be surprised with Isaiah Jackson. He's very similar to Brown in his play. Jackson and Banchero would be great together too. Brooks possibly back would be even better.

Because they think they need to put up large numbers, regardless of the level of competition. And, yet, they continue to not be able to fool scouts who actually look at opponents and combines.

The year after KAT we got the #1 overall Skal. He just happened to suck! None of the other bigs in that class were great as FR either.
The next year Giles went to Duke, so we got next best in Bam.
The next year was a good big man class, but Bagley, Ayton and Bamba all took the shoe money to go elsewhere, and 4th guy Carter choose Duke (but probably wouldn’t if he knew Bagley was coming).
Jump to this year and Wiseman followed his AAU coach and Carey went to Duke.

Nick and PJ should be the poster children for how bigs develop in Cal’s system if they stay more than one year. I thought Nick would be good this year, but I had no idea he would turn himself into one of the best centers in the nation. It’s simply mind boggling what a weapon he is now. Not only does he excel at the dirty stuff needed in the paint, he is money from 15 feet and hits his free throws.

Tell me more about "Bread" at TT. Is he fresh Bread? Wheat Bread? Loaf of Bread? or what??? He may be molded Bread or even stale Bread. Corn Bread? Amish Bread? Banana Nut Bread? I'm so confused, help me out Rideordie.

Just have to wonder if Shaka Smart is the pull for Texas or Texas being close to home. Isnt Brown from Austin? May not matter who the coach is next year

I would like to know which coach or program has had players the caliber of Kat, Bam, AD or Cousins. The immediate impact, as you stated, are very few, especially bigs. The NCAA champs, lately haven't been blessed with impact big men, it's more positionless mode in today's world. I'm with you though, I would like a impact big in the near future to go along with current players and incoming recruits.

Not sure, but his dad wants to win, at least in everything he says. Plus it seems to have cooled off with Texas and Brown. Texas is about to put up a horrible record on the year and with what we have coming in I have to think we are right there. Of course, it's recruiting and could go any way, but just the way it seems right now.

Greg brown is nice, but Moussa Cisse is someone they NEED to get. Get him to reclass and come to UK next year. Defensive Monster, 6-11 and really good on the boards. Current Memphis lean, so hopefully he sees how bad they are with their talent and chooses UK. I like greg brown but he is all athleticism. Kuminga would be nice.

Top three "wishes" for next year

Moussa cisse
Kuminga
Banchero

Well Banchero will be at UK just don't know what year and also Isiah Jackson is a one and done talent but I do think the OP was talking about one and done top 10 pick type as we have landed future bigs who will play in the pros every year . PJ , EJ , Brooks , Vanderbilt have all happened in the last few years so we are getting future pros but again not Bam/Richards level ie very high draft picks. Brown is very possible and Bachero will happen one way or another. I don't know if Cisse is really a possibility to be honest so won't talk about him.

Give me Cliff and Kepnang to man the post next year and we are good. Though we do need a point guard to back up Askew if Quick leaves.

Don't forget WCS. Did you guys know he was a wide receiver in high school? And Cal got him all the way to the NBA. Go figure.

He's a legit big man. And my post was in hope that he commits. Try not to be such a downer.
He is not a legit big man. We already have a bunch of 6”7 guys

ware
Fletcher
Jackson 6”9

but none are like Richards. Jackson is the tallest but rail thin.

we have no legit big post players. Duke and unc both have 7 footers coming in next year in comparison. Just look how much Richards has helped this year. Even if EJ comes back we will have next to nothing in the post.

brown is good and is a good leaper but is NOT a legit post man. I am not a downer btw just know basketball

Jackson and ware can get the job done just fine you throw in fletcher hopefully brooks and EJ back and not a lot of teams will have an answer for that size and athleticism. We're gonna have enough very good inside players and an elite backcourt we don't require a Patrick Ewing

Fletcher is 6’6 and is not a big. He will no be guarding the other team’s center at no point in time. We need 2 more bigs and a backup point guard for next year. Jackson weighs 190 and will get pushed around like a bean. Have some of you not been watching our skinny freshmen play all these years? Jeez.

I want Quickley and Montgomery back.

Give me Quickley, Clarke, Boston, Brooks, and Montgomery as a starting five.

Throw in Askew, Allen, Juzang, Fletcher, Ware, and Jackson off the bench and we are set. 11 scholarship guys are about all we can expect from Cal.

If Montgomery leaves, hopefully we get Brown or Banchero.

If Quickley leaves, I am a little worried. I don’t think Askew is ready to lead us to a title at the PG. He’s a great player, but he is likely going to be much closer to Hagans and Quickley than Wall and Fox as a Freshman.

Also, Quickley needs to show the NBA he can run the Point if he wants to make a roster. He’s a 6’3 shooter/scorer. Those are a dime a dozen in college. His elite defense helps him, but running a title contender puts him at a whole other level. He stands to gain the most by staying, if Cal let’s him run the show. If Cal prefers Askew, he might as well leave while his stock is as high as it is going to get.

Give me a veteran at PG (Quickley), two elite wing scorers (Clarke and Boston), a hard working experienced stretch 4 (Brooks) and a defensive-minded seasoned big man (Montgomery). That’s the team I really want to see next season.

ware is closer to 6"10 than 6" 7. how many legit 7 footers do u see in college ball? we will be fine with the bigs we have. I'm sure Cal will add a more physical presence.

Yep I suspect we will add a grad transfer pg to back Askew up as I dont see Quick coming back now as he is just getting better every game and should leave if he keeps it up. Think we add 2 more bigs - Banchero who will reclass or Cliff and maybe Brown as I think Shaka is getting the ax. If EJ comes back then just Brown .

I somehow wish Richards would stay. One great break after all the early departures. Get a stud back as a senior!
