I would think that you guys would be smart enough to understand that our defense all year - which by the way was the best in the country - was driven by Willie being able to guard any position. Yes, we might get beat on switching screens from time to time, but for the most part we made teams make contested two-pointers, which is a recipe for winning - which, by the way, we won 38 games.
Unfortunately, instead of Willie guarding every position on the floor, tonight he didn't guard ANY position. I can't believe that a guy who came back to school to win a national championship gets on the biggest stage and absolutely no-shows. I'm not ripping him, but there's no ignoring it. He was a step slow all night, like he never had his legs under him.
You can rip on Cal all you want, but NO coach is going to switch up what they've done all year once they get to the Final Four, especially one who has won every game this season. He couldn't gameplan for the centerpiece of his defense - who, by the way, was the best defensive player in college basketball - taking the night off. It was just too much to overcome.
