When switching screens isn't working...

Booker gave up 2 three point plays because of switching. Barkley says that was the difference. Cal has a style and that is what he is. No zone and switching a and ball control late. 4 final fours in 5 years.
He makes no adjsutments based on who he is playing and will tell you as much.
Not sure I like that. But overall thrilled he is our coach.

A even game at half quickly changed because Booker kept being placed in a position that he couldn't possibly do well in. However, I couldn't believe the one time when 3 players watched the ball bounce out of bounds after WCS had clearly blocked the ball and we should have easily gotten the rebound.
Got killed on switches all game long and just when we start to make hay and wear them down with depth, we pull back and give them a second wind. Instead of stepping on their necks and continuing to do what we did to grab the lead in the first place, we play their style and not to lose.
If Bo Ryan could have personally called our offensive sets inside of 5 minutes, I don't think he'd have changed a thing.

Same thing against WV in 2010, we cant hit a 3 to save our lives but cal cant make his team stop shooting them, the WV game was a 5 pt game late, nd instead of going down to cousins, we just keep chunkin 3 pt bricks, just like tonight, wer up 4 and the harrisons throw up shots 5 possessions in a row and we lose.
I mean, honestly to God, when we've been talking all week about who would be guarding Kominsky did anyone ever think it would be Booker?

I would think that you guys would be smart enough to understand that our defense all year - which by the way was the best in the country - was driven by Willie being able to guard any position. Yes, we might get beat on switching screens from time to time, but for the most part we made teams make contested two-pointers, which is a recipe for winning - which, by the way, we won 38 games.
Unfortunately, instead of Willie guarding every position on the floor, tonight he didn't guard ANY position. I can't believe that a guy who came back to school to win a national championship gets on the biggest stage and absolutely no-shows. I'm not ripping him, but there's no ignoring it. He was a step slow all night, like he never had his legs under him.
You can rip on Cal all you want, but NO coach is going to switch up what they've done all year once they get to the Final Four, especially one who has won every game this season. He couldn't gameplan for the centerpiece of his defense - who, by the way, was the best defensive player in college basketball - taking the night off. It was just too much to overcome.
