I just thought this was interesting b/c our situations are so very similar. Same A.D. family, same great atmosphere and fanbase, same "legend" coach....
3 years ago TX A&M under the leadership of Bill Byrne fired longtime coach and Polk disciple Mark Johnson. Johnson was essentially the Ron Polk of A&M baseball and had missed regionals 4 of 6 years. The general reaction was one of surprise and "I cant believe they would fire Mark Johnson" A&M then went and got one of the top assistants in the country in Rob Childress at Nebraska. After struggling in 2006, Childress had A&M hosting and winning a regional last year. This year, they are 37-7 and No. 10 in the country battling for a national seed.
Let's hope this is a sign of things to come.
