When does the "Fire Hoiberg" movement begin?

I mean hardly anyone cares anymore, but we are losing badly again tonight. I guess we might cover the spread, so that's positive. When do we start to say Hoiberg has had enough time and it's time to move on?

For me, I don't like this style of defensive basketball. Give up way too many straight line layups, backdoor dunks, and second chance points off rebounds.

It's about time to show him the door after this season.

Same old crappola every season. Great facility but the product we put out each season is beyond disappointing. There are so many things wrong here it would take a four day filibuster to cover them all.

An OT loss to Ohio State and a road loss to MSU would not be hard to swallow, if NU ever beat anyone with a pulse.

We give up around 80 points a game. Hard to win doing that. I understand we have played some good teams, but we do this against run of the mill teams too.

As has been mentioned, the season opener was the real WTF moment. First year, fine, whatever. Covid year, fine whatever. But year 3 with your "best roster" yet and you get beat by a no-name mid-major? F*** that. WIU lost to UN-Omaha and St. Thomas.

Hard for Fred to put a positive spin on this program now. Next year might be make or break for him. The losses are really adding up and it feels like fan apathy is beginning to set in.

I think he is a good coach, but it is going to be tough to win with the large number of transfers he is bringing in, and the lack of a big man in the Big 10. His scheme would be great with other teams rosters. I think he needs to get a good big man and learn to call the offense inside out, and rebound offensively, but still get out and run off of the defensive rebounds. You can still get good looks from the 3 point line working inside out. We have looked competitive, but only when we are on point, and the other team is off their game.

By the way, who was the last legit good big man that Nebraska had?

Walker isn’t a true center, but he’s “legit” enough that he should be getting more touches and scoring opportunities. Huskers don’t seem to have the skills, patience or basketball IQ to do that. Not sure having someone a few inches taller would change that.

More offense through walker would be a good idea. He also has to rein in mcgowens. Just way too many awful shots and he needs to at least think about passing on his drives.

$15 million buyout. I'm guessing Trev will "restructure" his contract like he did with Frost and give him one more year. He actually has a legit big man coming in next year in Keita. Needs to find a legit point guard now.

Remember when building the new arena was going to totally transform our program and bring the wins? Just like people said with building the Bob?

Remember when people who questioned whether it actually would were criticized?

Yeah, it didn't work.

The Nebraska basketball program is the worst program in the history of “power five“, no bones about it, not close.

Nebraska basketball is quite literally cursed.

I was hoping that with the off-season hype and momentum that the basketball team would alleviate the misery from the football team. That hope has been dashed. All I can say it’s bizarre how cursed the men’s basketball program is. I was there during the glory days of Danny Nee. It was fun being good, beating Kansas, getting #3 seed in the dance. Seems like some dream I had.

If Hoiberg can't fix it, it might not be able to be fixed.
100% disagree. It’s a failure of Fred and those involved with the University, Athletic Department, and team. To say otherwise is to totally remove the bar - not just lower it - and chalk it all up to some factor beyond their control. It is to say that no one is responsible because no one could possibly fix it. I think that is complete and total BS and I could not disagree more.

Hoiberg has failed, but basically so has everyone at NU. I know we maybe saw a little light at the end of our basketball misery, but NU basketball has always been a doormat outside of a few token years and some of the Nee days. In all sports, we need to quit looking for someone who has a connection to the Huskers in some way. This does us no favors.

We need outsiders and also need to not force everything Nebraska down their throats. Just let them try to win.

timmy was 71-28 in pinnacle bank arena.

fred is 17-25 in pinnacle bank arena.

tim is currently 6-5 at san jose state, a team that has not won more than 7 games since 4 seasons.

why did we do this to ourselves.

This year is lost unfortunately. We thought Verge was a good late addition, but he is a cancer. I think if Banton was running the show this team would look pretty good. We need to bench Lat and Verge, start Kobe and Wilcher. Still hoping we can get maybe 5 BIG wins. We gotta build a little momentum for next year.

Yep. Venson Hamilton.
Without a doubt. Danny Nee had to do some fast talking to get Venson away from Syracuse in the recruiting process. Mikki Moore was a project coming out of high school but blossomed late and in the NBA. Mikki actually played the "4" more than being a true center.

Freds system would be fine this year if we WERENT SHOOTING 28% FROM 3! And its not like they are only getting contested shots. Getting Walker involved a little more has helped the last few games and getting Trey back will help as well, but when you bring guys in that are supposed to be better than 1 for 9 from 3, and you get 1 for 9 from 3 out of them, you are going to lose.

Bottom line is Fred will get at least one more year due to his LARGE buy out. If Nebraska was to fire him at the end of the year the Huskers would be on the hook for 15 million. Since the athletic department already had a 20 some million dollar short fall last year, I doubt they do anything but support Fred publicly.

My hope is Fred moves on and goes somewhere else. Having most of your team being yearly transfers is no way to build a program. It might work for some years here and there but over the long haul, its more work and less benefits. I like Fred as a person but this is not working out.

Agree with this. Mayan has no business being on this team, let along getting significant (starter) minutes. Verge does not make the team better. They are better with Kobe and Wilcher on the floor.

Hoiberg is 5-37 in B1G play since his hiring

it is the understatement of the century to say his tenure has been disappointing

You're probably right. This is like the 3rd or 4th coach we've had who has taken other teams to dance. They were good then but Nebraska just exposed them as frauds. Nothing more to it. Firing coaches every few years definitely doesn't contribute to program instability.

Could not agree more. I have season tickets and I just don't see what coach sees in Mayan in particular. He keeps trotting him out as a starter, but the results never seem to be there.

I agree with you in principle, but Hoiberg's MO has been to build seasons, not programs, then just start over the next year. 5-37 in conference play is completely indefensible regardless of who the coach is, and especially given Fred's resume.
