People are upset because of the team losing to a team they should beat, that's whats wrong and I am one of them, very seldom do you see team with great coaches lose to a mediocre team when they had a 21 point lead. We have better players and a better coach than UT and yet they beat us down there again when we were overwhelming favorites, losses like this are going to kill us come tournament time. Losing to Kansas didn't bother me to much because we had the ball with a chance to win at the end, but losing tonight burns me up.

Cal isn't perfect. Not his best year, imo. Changing up defenses once in a while may helo, but he is stubborn to a fault.

But my biggest peeve is that he has put together a mediocre team because he only recruited 2 contributors when we needed 4 or 5. But since he hardly misses at recruiting he deserves a mulligan.

We have been spoiled with the final fours but the truth is harder to swallow. 4 of 7 of Cals teams will have 10 loss regular seasons assuming this one stays the course. Had it not been for the Harrison miracles in 2014 and we had lost to witchita state or the dirty birds it might set in on a few more. Cal is the best recruiter the college game has seen in some time, if ever. But his coaching is severely lacking if you are trying to coach your team to a championship every year.

Too much emphasis has been put on preparing the player for the next level as opposed to preparing said player to
Help his team meet their maximum potential.

When other teams are scoring at will coaches change things up, not here. We just keep doing the same thing, all man all the time and hope for different results. Cal has again made his team one dimensional and easier to prepare for. If there is another team in the country that gives up as many easy baskets as we do when the opposing team takes it out under the own basket I would love to see it. Happens over and over under cal and tonight happened in the last two minutes after cutting the lead to 4. Until cal is willing to change his philosophy as a coach which is not likely to happen we can expect this frustration every single year. Mostly we will experience the frustration of a less than stellar regular season and things fall where they will in the NCAAT or have the type seasons we had in 10, 12, and 15 and other than 12' be left scratching our heads asking how in the heck did that team not win it all.

How do people expect UK not to struggle under Cal at some point when so many leave after 1 year. No matter how you slice it. This team has 2 players that are top notch D1 players. Ulis and Murray and Murray struggles on D which can be expected as a freshman. There is absolutely no post presence and they foul way too much and don't close out well, especially our big men.
How many top notch players does Auburn and Ut have? 11 teams figured out how to beat UT but we folded with the best pg in cbb.
UT has a front line of 6'5" guys and they got rebound after rebound.

Who wants him gone? I want him to try something different, because what he is trying to get this bunch to do ain't working.

He wants them to play defense, rebound and take good shots. They can't do that. One seven footer can't manage to rebound. What would you suggest? They are a strange bunch.

This loss coupled with the Auburn loss will drop us two seed lines in the NCAAT IMO unless the cats get a win at aTm and don't drop anymore bad games.
This was a crushing loss.

Is there middle ground between fire cal and people reminding is about tourney success (which doesn't make this seasons bad losses feel any better)?

Cal has been great in the post season but there have been times where his teams have been tough to watch during the season. I don't think that is a valid criticism.

I agree I find him stubborn... He continues to play man defense on dead ball out of bounds and we get scored on at least 2 times every game. He won't attempt a zone when we continue to get driverd on at will. Couple just keep mounting. Maybe put in a offense play on occasion.

Other than that can't miss on talent evaluation like he did this year. All freshman better be bad asses or you will lose games like tonight.
The one time late that they scored on the out of bounds under their basket was on Murray he turned his head twice and the second time they ran right by him! If he can't grasp basic fundamental defensive principals then we are in trouble! We just have to go on to the next game !

He has had Lee and Derek for three yrs, Alex four yrs, he should have taught them to play D by now

We should win every game by a lot. The national championship is easy to win and we should win them all.
If his record since he came to UK is not good enough for you, name his replacement.
We lack any interior presence. I am going to be kind and sat both Lee and Poythress are great kids who just lack talent at this level. They were overrated because they dominated your little white 5'9 sons type players. It happens. Skal could be a PoY type player by his Jr year. Used to be nothing wrong with that.
It is a huge step from high school to D-1. Unless you hit on posters like AD, Boogie, Wall, MKG or the players K had last season, you could struggle.
We are high risk high reward. Big highs, big lows.
Cal has recruited a nice class next season. Can't wait to tear apart the players who do not meet your expectations.
I'm saying, relax, take a deep breathe. It is a basketball game. We will be fine.
If Cal had been bounced as many times as Bill Self by double digit seeds or in the 2nd round, would the smart thing to do be turn up the heat? No is the answer

Great because it is factually inaccurate?

You are supposed to be smarter than this Zipp.

Factually inaccurate in what way? The only inaccurate thing was stating 10 regular season losses. This season will mark the 3rd time in 4 seasons we have ended the year with 10 losses and one other season ended with 9. Maybe inaccurate but my post in general was on point.

Cal frustrates me beyond belief because as good as he is he could be that much better and it all starts with his willingness to adjust and implore the ability for his teams to not always be one dimensional on the defensive end of the court.

He's a victim of his own success in a lot of ways, it's ******* ridiculous that Dakari, Trey Lyles, and the Harrisons are not on this team. Possible addition by subtraction with the Harrisons, but the point remains.

Have you ever heard the phrase. Coaches coach, but players play? Or you can lead a horse to water...?
You can't teach want and desire.

Therein lies the problem. Those that criticize some of Cal's head scratching decisions are automatically accused of wanting him gone. That isn't the case at all. I have questioned Cal's methods for a while now but ive never wanted him fired. I just wish he wouldn't be so damn stubborn.

Its an argument from people who have no idea how to defend some of his decisions. "You don't like Cal, you want Tubby back? How about BCG? You want to fire Cal? Who would be better? Etc etc etc" Its weak. The truth is they actually are wondering why Cal does some of the things he does, but they are too afraid to question it. The fear is that they might not be as big of a fan if they do, and for many, UK basketball is the biggest thing in their life.

Take heat for what? Being the first or second most successful coach of the last decade?

I get analyzing and critiquing, but damn. Slow down.
^^^^^ That! ^^^^ Well said. Calipari and the team deserve to be critiqued but getting HEAT? Nah.

Cal should definitely catch a lot of heat....when this type of team and play becomes the norm and not an outlier...

I think they are unteachable. Despite how they look and all their high school hype they are either incredibly slow learners or their attention span is measured in nano seconds.

They may be great people and academically accomplished but bb retards.

Ok Einstein, since Cal isn't meeting your expectations, what if he very easily says "FU hillbillies" and goes to the NBA.
Who could match his 6 year record? You do know we have won more than anyone.

Our next coach should be? Good luck finding anyone who would be dumb enough to take the job with insane expectations. Donovan was smart to say hell no.

10 loss Tubby anyone?

UK has 17 FF in 76 years. Cal has nearly a quarter of them.

Attention everyone: since Cal has been to multiple Final Fours, and he is a Hall of Fame coach, that makes him off limits for any and all criticism regardless of how fair or unfair.

That is the question none of these hot seat guys can answer.

I get those that say Cal should be critiqued and it doesnt mean they want to replace him

However, this hot seat stuff is petty and hopefully just a poor use of words, because hot seat means you may be getting fired and that's just dumb. Only @LmdCat and maybe @sluggercatfan would push for this, even @ZaytovenCat, @CUT-NETS , and @3rex would disagree.

Yes Cal is no where near being on any kind of hot seat. That's preposterous.

I think the criticism of his decision making, his stubbornness, his goals of getting guys drafted and how high he places that in terms of importance, are all fair game. But in now way shape or form should we discussing anything around his seat being hot. That's ridiculous.
