Cohen might could salvage some reputation and good-will by cutting an obvious really bad hire and self-admitted deer in headlights coach free before the whole thing crashes down

Not coaching us in the Tax Slayer Bowl against Louisville was my first red flag. The 16 penalties against Kentucky was my next concern, but I was convinced we had a problem when coming off our first bye week, we regressed with more coaching. It’s like the more time he has to brainwash this RPO into the Offense, it makes us slower.

Tbh I had warnings after Florida and Kentucky but I attributed that to a transition. But I did know regarding that Florida loss that there would be fans who would always begrudge him for losing that one even if he had succeeded here and I would be with them.

My first huge red flag was LSU. Following a bye week after we had beaten Auburn, that was the gameplan? One of the worst offensive performances I had seen and we lost a game by double digits when we allowed less than 20 points.

My second huge red flag was Iowa. We had ended the season beating two atrocious teams in Arkansas and Ole Miss but it did help the momentum and we got a chance to prove that we had improved and get 9 wins. And nope it didn't work out. And it really gave no hope for 2019.

But all we heard off season was how it was all Fitz fault. So now we bring in 2 of his QBs and we're 3-3....

Anyways my final huge red flag was Kansas State. Yes ULL and even USM to an extent didn't make me feel great, but we've played in rough games like that before. To know that we had sunk to a very mediocre Big 12 team told me what I needed to know that winning road games even against the worst SEC teams would be a wild card.

Tennessee was the ultimatum for me. If he dropped that one I was out(like I think a lot of people were). And I'm out.

What would he have to do to get me back on board? Beat Alabama or LSU and I'm serious. Not one other win nor combination of wins could get me back on board after this past year.

I will be real though. I am very surprised how United we seem to be in this position rn. I mean it's obvious what the situation is, but there's typically a ton of sunshine pumpers. And I realized there's absolutely nothing in this era to sunshine pump. We're worse than Tennessee which means we probably can't even beat Arkansas. But still, idk if I've ever seen this fanbase be so against a coach and in such a short time..but again, why should we be for the Pittsburgh lover at this point.

I started questioning things against Stephen F freakin Austin last year. Huge offensive numbers of course, but if you look closer KT threw the ball over 30 times with less than 50% completions. I remember watching the game and wondering why we were passing so much - assumed he was just getting everyone some experience in the new passing game. Our RBs really weren’t getting many carries at all. And we honestly were having trouble getting into a rhythm on offense. We hit for a lot of big plays because we had them so outmatched but also had a lot of drives stall. I thought then, this isn’t going to work well in SEC play.

I know it sounds stupid but something just seemed off from day one. And we’ve just never gotten any cleaner on offense. He puts up big numbers against weak opponents but stalls when going up against defenses with equally talented or better players. I’ve always said I’ll give him till the end of year two before I make a judgment... but he’s got to pull a rabbit out of a hat to win me over by seasons end.

Final “drive” of KSU game.

Gave him the benefit of the doubt last year. I gave up after seeing the chaos on the field after forcing KSU to punt for our last chance. Yes, our chances were low, but the pity party and zero direction screamed poorly coached team. It’s as if we made a late interception and surprised the offense that they would be on the field. Nope - 2 minute drive and punt and to prepare for it.

Staff (offense at any rate) is in over their heads and I don’t see how anyone could argue differently.

After the first 3 and out versus Florida. The play was ruled a catch and when they took it to replay, you could visibly see he was distraught and knew if he didn't get that conversion he was 17ed.

August 2018.. 13 other SEC programs grinding every day but Moorhead wants to be every kid’s favorite uncle so he took the team to Geyser Falls.

Well... maybe I didn’t jump off the wagon that day but it was a big WTF moment.

This year’s Auburn game. The total lack of preparation. I gave him the benefit of the doubt last year when he probably didn’t deserve it. Even blamed the K-State game on the Stevens injury and suspensions. But not having a pulse against an Auburn team that is good but not great was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. The UT game didn’t even surprise me after that.

So, I played along last year thinking, "He's got to get his players in here to run his style of offense." This year he trots his 4 year protege in at QB and had two springs and a year of play to get things going. Then he lays an egg multiple times during the KSU game. During that game it became evident that he is too indecisive and that is showing through the players on the field. You can't be second guessing yourself and be a head coach. I think the players have lost faith in him at this point so 2 wins will be a stretch I fear going forward.

Last year at Kansas State. Penalties. Sloppy. Still won big; MSU was just a bad matchup for them. The gesticulating thuggish celebrating, like they were putting an *** whipping on the 49ers, was the first sign to me that discipline was taking a turn toward the JWS era. It steadily went downhill.

This year, Auburn game was the "Tet Offensive" for me, in that all my horrible suspicions are absolutely confimed.

It has been a process.

The Florida and Kentucky games last year were big red flags. I went to the FL game. The offensive players looking toward the sideline with the deer in the headlights look almost did it for me. But then they came back and beat Auburn, A&M, and Old Piss. Offense never looked like like what a good coach would put on the field, however. Then came Iowa.

And I blamed Fitz for a lot of it. I thought he was being a ball hog. But this season has proven it mostly wasn't Fitz. Fitz was probably making the best he could out of a bad situation.

The last 3 games has done it for me. It isn't going to get any better. What we are watching is a slow moving mutiny. The players have absolutely no confidence in this coaching staff. He has lost the fanbase. MSU administration is the only thing he hasn't lost, at least publicly. He doesn't deserve another year. He has shown no ability to do what he was hired to do.

I am sad to say it, but only Mississippi State University would keep this coach another year.

Many moments in 2018 leading up to that but that's when I concluded that Joe was not going to get it done. This season has solidly validated that conclusion. Not giving a coach a 3rd year is so foreign to State fans because virtually none of us have ever experienced a HC hire in which the incoming guy did not inherit ruins from his predecessor. You can pick almost any other profession as an example. Let's say I hire a mechanic. Its going to take lot longer to determine if he is up to snuff if I hand him a 20 year old vehicle up on blocks with a blown engine and transmission than if I give him one that runs fine but just needs a few minor adjustments. Mechanic Joe was given a late model Mustang that just needed an oil change and a tire rotation & now it's leaking oil, running rough & runs hot after a few miles.

for me it was after the auburn 2019 game. i was able to forgive the kentucky and florida games. iowa was disappointing but whatever, it's a bowl game. then auburn happens. that was pathetic. then after traveling to the tennessee game this weekend that was it for me. i think he needs to go. i'm willing to let it play out to see if he can beat any teams worth a damn this year but i fully expect to be 4-8 heading into 2020. and frankly i don't see why he should get another year with a performance like that. i fear shrader will keep him employed longer than we want.

You know it sounds over the top ridiculous to say that I knew our HC wasn't going to get it done after an 8 win season at Mississippi State but that 2018 team was just too good and too experienced to go 8-5 and lose games in the manner they did.

This is a good post that I agree with. We had sooo many games last year that really caused concern for me. But I kept some faith. Then Iowa. We looked like crap to a team that simply played clean, sound fundamental football with few mistakes. And had no answer for anything they did. Going into this year, I didn't have much hope because several games from last year kept a sour taste in my mouth - even with Stevens coming. Because I knew Stevens was coming here for a reason. After 4 years, he couldn't start at PSU - he'd been beaten out twice with almost zero measurable stats for lack of playing time. But he was a glimmer of hope so I tried to reserve judgement. I was distraught after the ULL game and then I totally expected us to lose to KSU which we did. At that point combined with last season, I knew we were going to be really **** the bed this season, BUT NEVER EVER DID I ACTUALLY EXPECT US TO LOSE TO TENNESSEE. Folks, this is a business. A serious business. Condos are going up all over Starkville. Property prices have increased. It's driven by Football first, then baseball. But make no mistake, Football is first. You remove the football program and just keep baseball and see how many condos go up for sale. And you allow football to crash and burn which is happening, and watch what happens with condo development. Someone at MSU better get a handle on this **** and quick. It's driving that local economy and a lot of people have invested a lot of money in Starkville and don't think it hasn't been driven by football during the Dan Mullen years. I spend a **** ton just tailgating. I spend over $1000 per season JUST TO TAILGATE. I know many people who spend more. That doesn't count the price of tickets. Don't even get me started on property taxes and utilities along with the investment in a condo. One of the tailgate wives made the comment after the KSU game...…"well its about more than wins and losses, it's also about socializing...". No the hell it isn't. Remove football from MSU and tell me how many people will go to Starkville on a Saturday and hang out and socialize under a tent. Better yet, let us win 3-4 games per year and tell me how that "socializing" goes. I can socialize with my friends back home in Jackson. I don't have to drive my *** to Starkville and do it. Rant over.

There have been red flags dating all the way back to last season’s opening game, but as far as when I knew we had a big problem, it was when I found out that he has no idea how to utilize Fitz, KT, or Mayden.

A lot of fans ridiculed comments about this back when they were said last season, but there is no genuine offensive guru on the planet that can’t figure out how to run an offense with ANY of those guys. It’s absurd

In Tampa, I held out hope after our momentum floated away like a soap bubble "M-State." We'll get it together in the off-season.
For ULL -- Maybe we're just rusty, first game, it's gonna gel. 8-4, maybe 9-3, maybe 7-5. But probably 8-4.
For USM -- Autry? Really?
For KSU -- You've got to be kidding me.
First quarter Auburn -- Oh no. It's really going to be this way. Thank God Tennessee is coming up.
Tennessee -- Done.

I'm still trying to make excuses for him. You know, new coaches, tutor gate etc. Last year was a 10 win team. Maybe 11 even. This year is missing pieces but there is not one spot or part that you can find hope in short of Schrader. Both lines are pathetic, our DB can not cover anyone, special teams suck, penalties are ridiculous. I'm very disappointed and there are so many excuses that can be made that I am sure he will get another year. Maybe 2 and I can't swallow going back to 4 wins a year. And no I'm not sure firing him will fix anything. Who can we get to fix it ? Probly nobody. It's terrible and I guess we have to sit and watch it.

Hindsight is 20/20 ---- should have seen it coming last year. Perhaps I did, but just didn't want to admit it.

The scales fell from my eyes at Rocky Top. This is a rudderless team, with a bumbling, stumbling Dud for Head Coach. His mea culpa the other day may have been heartfelt, but it was in no way inspiring.

JoMo is obviously a good enough coach and OC for a particular program... just not ready to lead the football team at State. I have no further expectation for this year's team and will not be watching them get run over the rest the remaining SEC games. Don't anticipate this team beating either Ark or UM.

I do hope to have another head football coach by January of 2020.

At the risk of being ostrich-sized from the board, I'm still in wait and see mode.

I was one of his biggest proponents ever since he was hired, but there is no arguing the product he has put on the field is unacceptable. I'm still holding out hope that something will gel and make 6 or even 7 wins possible.

I'm beyond making excuses for him at this point, but I just dont have the anger a lot of you seem to have, as though we were owed something better.

I never thought we would be better than 9-3 last year, so 8-4 wasn't horrible but for the fact the offense was completely shut down in those 4 losses. I dont care about the bowl game, either.

I said preseason I thought we were looking at 7-5, but UT was definitely one of those 7. I also said the final record didnt matter much to me as long as our offense appeared to be competent.....well, it isnt.

I'm also not as quick as some of you to pick specific reasons for our lack of success (Joe is stubborn/stupid, O is too complicated, practices are too soft, etc .), because I dont know what's going on in between games, or in Joe's head. But he certainly has not been the coach I expected.

Something has to change, and maybe switching to Shrader will get things started. But I will probably "know" after the A&M game.

Strongly suspected at KY last year; formally charged after the bowl game against Iowa. Convicted at Auburn this year. Appeal denied and final judgment rendered last week at Tennessee. (The wheels of college football justice turn slowly, too.)

I had much higher hopes before Tennessee. That was a pure mess but then looking at him at the presser Moday was very scary. He looked lost and hopeless himself. And coach should instill confidence and maybe be a little cocky and arrogant (Spurrier) but he worried me. I wouldn't be surprised if he found some way to exit without looking like he quit. Then we gotta start this crap all over again.

The look of complete unpreparedness was obviously a concern in games last year, but after Iowa is when I think he lost me. Having that long to prepare for a vanilla team like Iowa, then blowing it. This year he couldn't even offer us hope by beating the likes of KSU or Tennessee. If he somehow manages to get to a bowl and WINS it, including a win over Ole Miss, I might could visualize him here next year. Otherwise I'm hoping to see Bill Clark or Mike Norvell on our sideline next year.

Kansas State game. I had serious doubts about Moorhead by the Florida game last year, but figured I had to give him some slack for coming into a new situation. But when I saw the same old offense and all the missed tackles on defense a few weeks ago, I knew he's not gonna last long here.
