Once Duke lost meaning Purdue was going to be the new #1 just in time for our matchup, I kind of had an inkling this was coming - as frustrating as this season had been for me. The Cliff return was another reminder of that...

Couldn't agree more. With how dominating Williams was with anyone but Cliff on the floor it felt like any hope of pulling out the upset were gone when he left the floor. To see him come back and instantly check back in rejuvenated the entire stadium. What a night

Edey was like a criminal who got rewarded for fighting his way out of a perp walk — BAM! Down goes Cliff with a body slam— POW! Elbow to the chin of Mulcahy. We got f*cked while he gets two conjugal visits to the free throw line.
Didn’t like when Edey was taken out of the game shortly after - he was smiling proudly with his teammates over what occurred.

I don’t think anyone brought it up, but Cliff staying out of foul trouble last night was the most impressive thing to me.
Painter inexplicably took Edey out of the game. He only played 16 minutes. It completely cost Purdue the game because it allowed Harper to rebound and score in the paint (instead of throwing up 25 contested threes).

I was privately chuckling about this most of the night myself.

I had to do a double take when I checked the box score.

Those 16 minutes felt like an eternity.

It’s not like Williams is a slouch though, and he did make plays down the stretch for them.

I can explain why he did this. We were on a roll in the first half up by 7 and Williams comes in and scores 14 straight pts. No coach would ever keep that guy on the bench. Edey is a manster but probably not in shape to play extended minutes in a row. Easy decision for Painter.

Am I the only one who thinks that this whole Cliff thing was showmanship by Pike. When Pike walked out the refs turned around and where shocked why he was there, I’m the key and he told them because your going to go check that and then walked to Cliff. Then he stays down taking into cliffs ear the whole time. Then the exaggerated walk off being helped by a team mate. Only to come back what 5 minutes later real time completely fine.

You arent the only one. I said the same thing. Either that or they have the magic soccer healing water in the locker room. Cliff fell holding his neck. And then couldn’t walk on his own ? But I’m fine with it. The crowd fed off the theater Pike created. A+ for coach

He was probably really hurt at the time. A little neck traction in the locker room probably helped right away.

A game like this can be a turning point because you now have a clear reference point as to how hard you need to work and how bad you need to want it
No matter how many years you’ve played, you forget….
The guys all know without saying a word to each other what kind of focus and energy they need to bring.
It’ll be needed Sunday again.

I sit close to where Cliff went down and he was hurting. I was petrified that it was his neck. Thank goodness he’s fine !
