Your last sentence makes zero sense. Do the wishes or statements of fans affect who plays? A post here doesn’t hurt the players feelings or change who Cal plays.
For the love of god, I meant that some fans would be totally fine with a lesser team on the floor as long as certain players didn’t get their feelings hurt by being benched by the coach. Did you seriously need that explained?

I didn’t make the thread. And wtf would a cheat fan go to an open practice at rupp? Dude use your brain
The only time I see you Is at a Bashing a player thread or bashing a coach thread. I bet it killed just to say something good about Wallace. SEC coaches are already watching Wallace. He is our top draft pick. I believe he is top 5. He is not a point guard just like TyTy was not and he is not replacing Wheeler.
Be better. Prove me Wrong.
Quit bashing our players. Be positive. I know you are a good person. Let your words prove it.

Not saying I agree or disagree but why is it a bad thing if it’s said? The point of this forum is to discuss our team, good or bad
I think that it's foreshadowing who's going to be the teams whipping boy is what the problem is. We have one or two every year. I think Wheeler and Wallace can be a good duo and both will get starter minutes.

Fascinating, ain't it? "I seen all I needed last season."

+/- winner of game 2. Huh.

"Weak opponent!"
"Doesn't count!"
"Fluke game!"
"Blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while!"

Dude could turn into John Wall 2.0 overnight and some of these miserable folks would still rather trash him than eat crow.
Shout out to Wheeler. He was great this game. This is EXACTLY the dude we need. We really don't need him even bothering with 3s. He was way off on those. Just do all the other stuff and cut down on turnovers and that's what we need.

If it wasn’t for these idiots who don’t know basketball who bash on Wheeler this place wouldn’t be any fun. He’s Dwight Anderson as a Point Guard who’s got to get in a little better shape and be a little smarter. He has a lot more new players to get use to. Go Wheeler. Go Cats.

I liked just about everything Wheeler did tonight, aside from those jacked up 3s.
Agreed.

I wish he would take the Wayne Turner approach and just never shoot them. I realize he feels the need to prove he can make outside shots if he has ANY "shot" at the NBA, but he just can't make an outside jumper.

I hope he doesn't keep trying to make them and shoots us out of an important game. This year there is NO excuse for him to even attempt a 3 with the kids we have that can make them.

I like it when people say things like “he just has to shoot better.” If it was only that easy we’d all be in the nba.
I woulda been a PGA golfer if my putter coulda hit straight and my driver quit hooking every shot into the woods. Damn clubs. Got a new set every year and they still did nothing.

I will say this. I was really impressed with the team last night and surprised by a bunch of them. The only negative I saw was Wheeler looked like the exact same player as last year while most the other guys looked to have taken a step forward.
Toppin’s first half was pretty bad too (on the offensive end).

Yeah, the Wheeler sucks mob is laying g low tonight, but never fear they shall return
Nothing has changed, last night was the only type of team he can look good against. It’s not that he sucks either, it’s that he just doesn’t have what it takes to take a big time school to a title, at least being the lead guard. He could still provide a spark off the bench imo.

Dude just STFU, you are just 100% trolling now.

He had 7 points and 8 assists against KU, has 26 points and 8 assists and 4 steals against UNC, had 21 points and 8 assists against UT, etc, all last season.

I am just going to assume you are not a real UK fan at this point and do not actually watch any games.

What was his Tennessee numbers in the 2 losses? Were they comparable?

he’s a beast in a full court game. you can’t really argue that. when tennessee tried to run with us in rupp last year and against unc. it’s clear when he’s in his element. in the half court he’s more turnover prone. you just need to make the simple play. no need to over penetrate and all that. it usually gets him into trouble.

now this year we will have a much better lob game going and he might have better success. you just can’t turn it over 5 times against good competition. missed shots don’t hurt as much. offensive rebounding is our strength. turnovers are the only thing that negate it.

What Sahvir did last night was how he should get to play more often with this type of team. I'll say this before Cal does and it's coming soon--be it Bahamas or by time they play Blue-White Game. This will be his best shooting team. Now adding snipers like Fredrick/Reeves is a huge reason, but one attribute that I think is often overlooked by coaches when discussing shooting as a team--how many playmakers the team has capable of getting a teammate in an open look. The more guys like that-who can handle/pass/shoot-they create more open looks and more open looks means more made shots. Sounds simple right?

But think of it-when you have a trip like this, it's to get some early work/test your player combinations, see how guys have developed personally and where they need to get. One thing I think we all agree is they have far more playmakers/creators. When you have guys who can pass the ball--not just pass but pass to the shooter in his pocket/rhythm, you get more open looks and that is going to mean a better shooting percentage/makes. Now you add a horse like Oscar Tshiebwe in the paint/rebounding. That means even your misses that are off good action--will likely be pts because he's there to swallow up missed shots--if not him--Collins/Toppin/Livingston, on glass.

Cal's best shooting team to me was the '12 team. Biggest reason-you had great shooter in Lamb and capable shooters in Miller/Wiltjer. But they had guys like MKG/Jones who could create plays for teammates and get them open looks and then AD/MKG/Jones were there to put back clean look misses. Versatility and athleticism helps immensely to shooting when you need it. Clean looks equal points be it made/missed due to getting defenses out of position and chasing and this team having more guys who can handle/pass/shoot is a weapon we've not seen a lot lately. I'd say the '20 team closest with Quickley/Maxey/Hagans/Juzang but this team has more athleticism and size. To me the size of the players along with some experience would make it like a combo of '19/20 teams best attributes--like a Soph Quickley with Herro and Maxey and then have an athletic defensive team at all times with this '23 team. They can get after it defensively and not have to go "small" to defend perimeter oriented teams. The fact Cal is challenging this group with a brutal schedule is great because SEC is going to be a monster this year--tougher than previous years IMO.

For all the hype SEC as a Conference got last year--this is the year I think you are going to see their top teams make deep runs collectively.

He was looking better by seasons end and in the off season. Hopefully just an off shooting night and not a portend of things to come.
That hall the play in looks like a terrible shooting backround to me. I’m surprised we hit so many 3’s the first game.

Buddy, I’m a bigger fan than you because you clearly didn’t watch the St. Peters game. If you did you would have seen them not even guarding him, absolutely killing any hope we had on the offensive end. It’s impossible to get much going when all your good offensive players are basically being double teamed. If Cal doesn’t play Wallace 30+ mpg at point guard we are doomed, mark my words.

Wheeler is great as your backup PG off the bench but shouldn’t be playing the first 5 mins or last 5 mins of a game. Unfortunately, he is one of those guys Cal will force in there in the top 5 when he should be somewhere between 6-7 in the rotation

I agree with this. Wheeler does not match up well in a half court grind out type of game, and his shot looks exactly the same as it did last year.

Can he do some good things, sure. But as long as Calipari rides him like a camel going across the Sahara, I will be worried a slow down type team will beat us.

Calipari must find a mix for the point guard position, but if Wheeler is playing 35 minutes, I don't like our chances in huge games.

In a meaningless regular season game, where unc obviously played us straight up. In a do or die game however, teams will simply sag off and give him 3-4 feet and be ready to immediately help on other guys who can actually shoot from the perimeter. It’s almost like we’ve seen it happen before.

He’s one of the weak links. If we make a deep run this year, it will have something to do with Wheeler losing minutes to other, less turnover-prone, more well-rounded players.

Yeah...he's off to a whopping 0-6 from 3pt land...and many of them being total brick city. Once we play legit talent with a gameplan....it will be back to going under every ball screen, sagging off him to clog drive lanes and no post game. And on defense...he's strong ball defender but once teams drive him...he is so short and can't jump...teams just shoot over him.

I don't see why we can't see that he's still the same deficient player at end of last year. Hell he didn't even bother to drop 5 pounds off his chubby pysique...which he needs to do.

It’s funny bc the loss to St. Peter’s was Bc of Tyty Grady and Mintz. Those guys were just terrible.

Just curious, if saying Wallace should start over Wheeler is bashing Wheeler, then is saying Tshiebwe should start over Ware bashing Ware?

Is it bashing Ware to say that the team is better when he is on the bench?
Wallace should play next to Wheeler. Not start over him. Wheeler makes this team push the ball better than anyone else playing the point. Dude can flat out play!!
