Greatly looking forward to this one. WA is the new kid on the block and just getting things going. I think this is going to be their coming out party.

Gotcha. When some one asks “what does that team got”. Reply is lotta wins, lotta points
I asked on a previous thread but didn't really get an answer: They have an awesome record on paper and all the points to boot, but who have they played? WA is headed into next week's with 13 opponent wins vs IC's 23.

CalPreps, who ranks teams based on strength of schedule with some adjustments for outliers, ranks WA at 50th in state vs IC at 47th. http://calpreps.com/2022/ratings/Illinois_all.htm

Traditionally Marian and Bmac would be nice wins but neither will be playoff teams this year. So…they have played no one. But their scores are impressive and seeing them last year you could tell they were going to continue to get better.

Im excited about this one and believe Wheaton is legit and growing into a big time Chicagoland program.

This is just my point. I actually have opponents wins at 9, with one of those wins being a forfeit.

State Champs....all the way!!! These guys at WA are going to realize that by orchestrating a weak schedule, and new conference...they will never be ready for teams like IC or St. Francis...or let alone any 1st round matchup.

IC beats WA by 28+. The "leadership" who posts on this board couldn't really compete with the big boys, so he manipulated a perception of being great. The boys at IC are reading all this self-promotion....and won't take kindly to it.

Hey WA - What happened to playing Sparta? Let's see Johanick reply to this one. And...one more thing....This guy is the only HC I've seen posting on this board....I may have missed others or don't remember. Pretty sad!

Being on this board for 15+ years I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a WA poster. I could be wrong.

Was this post directed at me since I started this thread and have hyped up WA this year? That’s the way I’m taking it…My school has always competed against WA for the past 30 years and I’ve always respected WA both as a school and athletic program. I like to see them do well.

Not really following the schedule dig. Woodstock Marian is a great non-con game. When it was scheduled that was a great pick up for WA. Christ The King is joining the conference next year and a lot of the conference schools added them this year as non-con games (possibly to help a new conference school out).

The conference is in two divisions and WA and St Fran are on Separate sides. I don’t think they are dodging Sparta at all. They actually will hopefully meet up in the playoffs this year.

They beat coal city last year in the round 1 of the playoffs so your comment about their schedule not preparing them is in accurate.

They played IC tough last year and lost by 2 scores. They are a lot better this year and I believe they have a chance to knock off IC.

Looking forward to Friday night and seeing a great game.

If any of the hopes and predictions we have seen for the program are remotely accurate, I think it is clear that their new conference will be a one or two year stop. It looked like a league of haves and have nots. But now Mac seems to have a deep hole to dig from and MCC seems to be shrinking into obscurity as well. That leaves perhaps 1A AC as a real game. And if WA becomes a legit annual 4a deep playoff run team, even that should be a running clock.

If WA advances to the quarters or beyond this year and next, I assume they will be asking to get into the CCL/ESCC. Because six months ago their new league looked like it would collapse after a year or two because it was four haves and four have nots. Now it looks like it has maybe 1-2 teams with postseason aspirations. So it may actually last a bit longer than previously predicted, but as a largely uncompetitive league. It sounds like WA desires more than that. If they prove it this postseason and next, they won’t be in that league much longer.

Good point and very well could hold true. I do think WA would like to stay with Timothy, Aurora Christian, Chicago Christian, etc.

Bmac, Marian, St Ed’s, AC, WA, Chicago Hope, Chicago Christian while a little odd ball of a group should make up one of the better small school conferences in the state.

I think that “best small school conference in the state” was the vision when it was created. But reality has not been kind the last few months. For that to be true, AC, Mac, and MCC must be near their peak or at least historical norms. Right now all three look the part of Willie Mays the New York Met, way past his prime.

that could change and they could regroup, but all three appear to be in substantial multi year rebuilding mode. Seems like WA would like to be a player in 4a the next 2 to 3 years. The timelines only line up for a bunch of WA beatdowns, which will not prepare them for the 4a playoffs.

6 months ago, I said the four haves are going to break away from the four have nots within a few years. Three of the four “haves “ look so far behind historical norms right now that I think the league will create some stability for all but WA. They will have to decide to stick around due to convenience or if they want to elevate their program beyond the other seven.

My takeaway from watching this game is that the WA Q can sling the ball when he's in the pocket. Like really well. Get him moving outside and it's a different story. He's gotta learn to stay balanced on the move.
I agree. Dont understand why he kept throwing off balanced. Also don’t understand why they didn’t run him at all.

My big takeaway is that #14 and #7 are DUDES. Those cats are special and we’re fun to watch.

WA was overmatched all over the field but was extremely well coached and get the most out of their kids. While I went into the game thinking this was the next great private school program….that wasn’t my feelings after the game.

My question is why you thought they were the next great private program? In all due respect…

Few reasons…
*Thought the Marian and Bmac scores meant more than they did. Both teams officially are as bad as they’ve ever been. Marian score last night is rather shocking.
*Im a big Swider fan and since he’s been there the program has greatly improved.
*Theyve developed a great feeder program that the varsity coaches are on the board of. All the other good private schools that I’m familiar with took off when they developed a pipeline w local feedee programs.
*Based on their scores this year I figured they’d gotten a few transfers.
*Hadnt seen IC play in person in a few years. The kids they have now are very impressive. They are at a different level then I remember last. I noticed how great of a job they do with local youth leagues last night. Their were several youth teams wearing their jerseys last night and walking the IC sidelines during the game.
* WA QB, while a nice player, wasn’t what I thought he’d be.
* While Swider is there I do think they will continue to get better but I don’t think they’ll get to 4a state championships good.
*Had a friend see them play last week and hyped them up more than they needed to be.

By no means was that directed at you!

It was, however, directed at their HC!

Good luck the rest of the way. Congrats on your growth.

Remember, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. This loss made WA better!

I’m not a WA fan. Just like their program.

I think they’ll rebound well from this and finish 8-1 and win a game or two into the playoffs.

This is what the coach wrote regarding Wheaton Academy. "Not sure if they're anywhere near the place to contend for it all, but time will tell." The quote in no way reflects over confidence nor does it in any way suggest Wheaton Academy should be (or should have been) the favorite for the 4A title. It certainly did not suggest WA was a lock. That which was written was appropriately modest and humble.

I was the individual who predicted (in a different thread) a Wheaton Academy victory over IC Catholic. I was wrong. I also predicted WA would win the 4A championship, though I also wrote it was in no way a sure thing. Although technically they still have a chance to fulfill that prediction, I now suspect it is not likely.

I have never met the head coach and do not know much about him. Apparently you do. It is my understanding he graduated with a bachelors degree from Wheaton College and a masters degree from Northwestern University. Both schools have excellent academic reputations and graduating from them indicates some degree of intelligence. I am not affiliated with WA in any way. I'm merely a casual fan who made a prediction. The program seems to have improved over the last couple of years and I like the way they play.

I acknowledge the first part of my prediction did not occur. That happens from time to time.

The WA bandwagon this week really baffled me. They have made nice strides as a program but I doubt they get to the quarters.

Of the 65 4A teams on the new playoff outlook WA has the lowest opponent wins (20).
