What's your expectation for Kamario?

He's saying the right things. Wants the expectations and publicity. But for a guy who played limited snaps - it's a worry. I think he has all the talent in the world obviously.

For me - make the easy plays. He's going to make the jaw dropping plays b/c of his natural ability but complete the slant, don't force, etc. That's going to be key.

Pretty much what you said. He’s also just a sophomore. If he is as talented as he appears to be we should see gradual improvement as time goes on. I do think he has the potential to be something very special

Of course, if he wants to be Cam 2.0 out of the gate and win the Heisman I will take my L and smile.

I expect we'll see a young QB still learning to play the position. We'll see some improvement in not tucking the ball and running too quickly and in not missing wide open receivers by 10 yards. But it will be slow improvement. A lot of 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Hopefully he can continue to not turn the ball over. He will make a few runs this year and hit a few deep passes that will just make everyone's jaws drop.

My expectations are that he looks like a slightly improved version of last year, but it's largely going to be an unknown how good he really is because the OL protection is going to be so bad that we can't fairly judge him. womp womp

Would love for somebody to make the bull's case for why our OL isn't going to be atrocious again.

I expect him to take the first snap of the season to the house.

After that, I have no expectations and will just sit back and watch.

That's #1. And Lebby knows it. They say he starts yelling if they get close in practice. Referring to not getting hurt

He went down pretty easy in the bowl game. I am thinking it was the coaches not having them ready to play. He looked ok in the OLe MIss game but didn't look ready to play in the bowl game.

I can only speak on one position.....center. Having Canon Boone as K-Man's underneath guy is really good. Boone is experienced, has decent size and good mobility. Hopefully he can help with the bull rushes straight up the middle to get to K-Man.

When we have a QB that is bragged on at the Manning Camp, it is usually good.

If he does that, then just stay in the house or on the sideline and let the #2 and #3 risk their knees. Plus, gives the Golden Gophers little to look at.

Not sure how much we can read into a bowl game, these days especially. But the fact is he was awful in the Egg Bowl, other than the one spectacular run. It was easily his worst game.

No matter how good he does, the guy on the bench is better.

this applies to every state QB in history and moving forward

I expect him to do as much as he can, with the O-Line, receivers, and runners he has around him.

So I expect he limits mistakes he makes and maximizes opportunities he is given.

I’m usually more optimistic than I should be just because if I’m not, I would be miserable. But… for this QB role, I’ll just believe it when I see it. My goals are for him to stay healthy and avoid turnovers and sacks. I’d love for him to show out but if he can do that, it’d be a good sophomore year for him

I just hope he stays health and his offensive line is better than I think it's going to be. I have PTSD that his shelf life as a run-first QB isn't going to be very long. On that note I'm thrilled we finally have a #2 who has the snaps that AJ Swann has.

He will look extremely good versus ULM but will make some sophomore mistakes that we disregard because of the other great plays he makes. I expect the fan base to lose their collective sh&t about how good he looks. Then reality will come slamming down when we aren’t playing such a bad team.

My expectations for the rest of the season are that he shows flashes of extreme talent but also flashes of his youth. We just need him to manage the game and make the easy, routine plays between those flashes and stay injury free. So, I’m basically on the same page with DS.

I think he will look like Omarr Conner in 2004/2005, he'll get some some rushing yards but it'll be obvious that he's playing in an offense not suited for him. Team won't be as bad as we were back then but the offense will just look.....well I guess dysfunctional is the right word.

I used to try and be a sheep about improvement and all that, but I'm over it. Unless he pulls a Lamar Jackson type jump in his running ability, we're going to be disappointed.

Just don't get killed running qb up the middle 20 times a game. And don't end up taking 20 yard scramble sacks a bunch, and hit about 55 percent or better, he can be pretty good. As long as lebby plays within his skills and doesn't put a square peg in a round hole. He's a got a lot of maturing to do as basically a RS freshmen.

If he’s as successful as most of the guys one that list, we are in good shape.

My expectation is that he doesn't feel like he has to do too much on each and every play.

Plays within himself, protects the ball, and stays healthy.

So my expectation/hope is that Lebby doesn't 17 this up.

I asked gemini about Canon Boone and the opinion was that based on his PFF grade, he was pretty good at pass blocking but below average at run blocking. Said based on PFF, said he was basically a replacement level starter in the SEC. That's our most proven lineman. It also said that our OL should be better because we did upgrade, but we mainly upgraded with players that either hadn't earned much playing time at other SEC schools, or in one case, with somebody that had been benched in favor of a younger player, so we will be relying on players to make big jumps in order to get to average. Also said that we have 6 lineman so can basically afford zero injuries, which is rare for an OL in the SEC. That was based on a comment from Lebby about having 6 OL that he's comfortable with though. Not sure there was any analysis deeper than that.

Not sure how much stock to put in an LLM's football analysis, but was not the "tell you what you want to hear" response I expected. Although maybe it assumes any state fan wants to hear bad news and thought it was telling me what I want to hear.

Co-Pilot says:

Areas of concern

I would not call this an elite SEC offensive line yet.
The biggest questions are:
  1. Tackle play against top SEC pass rushers. Mississippi State will face defensive fronts such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas, and Ole Miss. Until the tackles consistently demonstrate they can handle those caliber edge rushers, there is still some uncertainty.
  2. Young depth. While the depth chart is deeper, several backups are still relatively young and unproven. [ourlads.com], [thetwodeep.com]
  3. Run-game dominance. The line looks capable of being solid, but it remains to be seen whether they can consistently move SEC defensive fronts off the ball.

My overall projection

If the starting five stays healthy:
2025: Below-average SEC offensive line
2026: Average to slightly above-average SEC offensive line
In practical terms, I think the line has a chance to move from roughly the bottom third of the SEC to the middle of the conference, which would be a substantial improvement and could have a bigger impact on Mississippi State's win total than any other position group on offense.
For Jeff Lebby's offense, that's critical. If this group performs as expected, the Bulldogs should run the ball more efficiently, protect the quarterback better, and allow the offense to operate at the pace Lebby wants.

My early expectation would be that the offensive line ends up being a team strength rather than a liability, which is something Mississippi State has not been able to say consistently over the last few seasons.
