What's really going to happen?

If Joe wins this egg bowl, do you really think he gets one more year or is he gone anyway? As I stated on here, I'm really fed up with him. It's been a decline in this team on both sides of the ball from day one. Seems like by now, he should know that his system can't and will not work here.. I really hope by Monday something good will come out of this mess.,.,

I can’t imagine us making a change if he wins on Thursday.

I agree but if a change is made it could be mutual. Moorhead does not look to enjoy being a head coach. You can tell the criticism is really getting to him. I wouldn’t be floored to see him want to step down. But I guess people don’t typically walk around from jobs that pay as well as a SEC head coach.

I think he wins the Egg Bowl and we won't fire him, but holding out hope that he gets that Rutgers offer.

If he wins, that's what I hope really happens, part ways from both sides.. The little bit of spunk he had in him when he got here is long gone..

He will either take the Rutgers job or be our coach next year. And they are not even talking about him in New Jersey anymore. That doesnt mean it's not gonna happen but my money is he wants to succeed in the SEC west. The ultimate challenge. And I don't see them firing him this year.

I feel 75% sure he is back next year. That goes up to 100% with a win and drops to 50% with a loss. I disagree with what some are saying, I think he genuinely wants to be here and succeed here. I don’t think he would outright leave for another job unless we’ve told him it’s either that or get fired, which I don’t think we would do if he goes 6-6.

Well they are mainly talking about the fallout of them not getting Schaino deal negotiated and him already announced. A lot of heat is being thrown at the AD and Admin. So they’re still on that right now. But there is some saying if they don’t get Schaino back to the table that they had better hire Moorehead or better to get the dogs called off. Still think there is only a 10% chance they make a push for Moorehead. A win and it might go up some.

Well you know how that stuff goes. I know it's a big stink about mishandling Schiano. They offered and he said no. But what I read had 3 other guys they were looking at. Only catch was no HC experience. But I think he wants to be successful. If he leaves some will say he couldn't cut the mustard. I'm just guessing tho. I wouldn't be surprised if they offered 4 mill and he took off tho

And I know everybody will freak out but they would be fools not to try to get Joemo. I know it is taking awhile to get rolling here but I don't think he is a bad coach.

The main 247 Rutgers guy just posted “just got a phone call to keep an eye on Joe Moorhead”.

Yeah they need to move quickly and settle the fan base, boosters and even the high school coaches. It is pretty bad over the the Schaino handling

He’s not done anything to show he’s a good coach. I can’t understand you guys that insist he’s a good coach. What are you basing that on?

geezus I’m tired of talking about this...rinse repeat

Me too. This stuff got old a long time ago. He will be here next year or he won't. To fire him will cost the program more dollars than we (reasonably) have to spend. SPS speculation is great, but it would be nice to go 24 hours without another "Let's get rid of Joe post.

I’m there too, man. One way or another we should have our answer within the coming days.

We only have egg bowl week once a year. Why can't we just obsess about what a ****** school OM is for four or five days? I feel cheated out of SPS's right to enjoy egg bowl week. It was one of the things DS wanted when he carved the SPS covenant into stone.

Nothing here, but his time at Fordham and Penn State would lead you to believe he’s not a total buffoon. Maybe he was aided by talent at Penn State, but they had talent before he got there and were still awful offensively.

His coaching history. You know he didnt just start coaching last year. He has been very successful at other places. Look into it.

Are you joking ??? Even if we lose the EB he will still average 6.5 wins a year. Name another MSU coach not named Dan that can top that. I will wait. Dan was 7.8 a year so you don't have to do that math.

I think he leaves on his own win or lose. Or at least it will be made to look that way so everyone can save face.

Basing it on his past experiences, and the respect he has in the coaching world. He has not been a good coach here, though.

I agree. I think he is done here Thursday no matter what. The Rutgers 247 guy told them to look out for Moorhead just yesterday. I think he will be going there.

Sorry, I’m no longer interested in what he did other places. He’s been here 2 years and you can’t name one thing he’s done good here, does that not make you think maybe he’s just not a good coach?

Croom averaged 6 his last two years and averaged 3 conf wins his last two years (same as joe will do with an egg loss) so that tells you how much that stat is worth

I think maybe it’s a bad fit and he’s not SEC West caliber. But that doesn’t mean he’s necessarily a bad coach. I could pretty easily see him going somewhere else and doing better than he’s done here. The SEC is just an entirely different animal.

Good coaches don't forget how to coach. I would say it's the turn over in his staff last year, the suspensions and the way that has been handled injuries all around and having to play 20 freshmen. Just because a coach can't win 9 games a year at MSU it doesnt mean he isn't a good coach. Hopefully he will go to Rutgers and we can have the same discussion next year after we go thru a complete coaching swap. Constant change is how the smart programs do it

Here is where I fall on this...

We are either committed to competing on a SEC/National level or we are not. If we are, then we have to make the decision now to let Joe go, because the gap between the haves and the have not's is not only going to get bigger but it's going to grow at a very fast rate with the paying of players coming down the line and schools beginning to tell the NCAA to go 17 themselves. If we are not committed to competing then keeping him is the decision we will make. The quicker we decide the better off we will be. I truly believe that the right coach can change everything in a short period of time. You bring in the right coach (no matter the cost), the publicity comes, the recruits come, the national respect comes, and the contending seasons come.

I have never understood the cost factor when it comes to coaches. If you hire the right coach who has name recognition and national perception respect, for say 7-10 million, you make your money back before he ever steps foot on campus. The perception changes overnight with the fan base, the national media, and the recruits. Football is your money making sport and it really does not matter what you pay a coach, you are not going to go into the red in football if you have the right coach (LT reference). I have never understood the trying to get a bargain or finding a diamond in the rough mentality. Go offer the top names in the industry and offer them more than they are currently making, and make them say no. At the very least it would show that we are serious about winning and arent willing to settle.

It is just hard for me to see people saying we should give Joe another year when it is clear that he is NEVER going compete in the SEC. Even if he were to get us to a 7 wins a season consistency, that is still nowhere near competing...that would put you at 4th in the West at best, and no better than 6th overall in the SEC and we are still duking it out in the same mid tier bowl games . That just isnt very good, its quite literally average. I also do not understand the "MSU will never compete consitantly" mentality. IF that is the case, then why do we even bother? If thats the case we should just become a KY or UCLA or USCe and pour all resources towards Baseball and Basketball....that at least costs less overall and you get more for your money.

I want MSU to succeed more than anything and truly believe that we can...we are in SEC, we are in the South, we have the facilities, we just need the right coach. But it cant be a no-name diamond in the rough bargain, and it certainly cant be JoeMo...It has to be a name and it has to turn heads. I realize this is probably ridiculous, but I wish it wasnt...I realize it won't happen, but I sure wish it would!

He is clearly not a terrible coach and did some things well to get where he is. I think he's just not a great coach and had some very significant weaknesses that were exposed at MSU. I would not be surprised at all for him to go on and be a successful head coach somewhere eventually. He just can't do it learning on the job here. He will kill recruiting before he has a chance to show he can turn it around, which will ensure he can't turn it around even if he does start doing a better job.
