18 - 0 to start the season in 2006. Lost a game to LSU in Baton Rouge to end the winning streak. Then a couple of weeks later absolute **** the bed against LA Tech in the 9th in Ruston to blow a huge lead and the wheels came off for the season at that point.
That was when you knew it was over for Polk. Moreland and that core group willed us to the CWS in 2007 but the signs of bad coaching were everywhere. And yes Polk still gets credit for recruiting those guys.
I believe we got a mercy bid to the NCAAT that year too due to LT. At that time, the way it was set up, I think we were one of the few teams who didn’t make Hoover and still made the NCAAs.
When we were about 15-0, I was sitting in LFL, and some guys were discussing towing their trailer Omaha. I knew that was a bad jinx right then and there there.
That La Tech game will be seared into my brain till I die. Entered the 9th inning leading 12-6. Got two outs then proceeded to give up 8 hits and a walk to lose 13-12. There were two outs and nobody was on base and we had a 6 run lead. And it wasn't cheap. They just kept getting hits.

I had never heard of anything like it before or since. I'm sure similar things have happened, but it's got to incredibly rare.
I remember it like it was 20 years ago. Polk was on the cover of something “17-0”! Then it went to ****. The Louisiana game put me in a coma

Anyone with any sense watching that year knew we weren’t as good as our record.
Was the pitcher named Andy? I seem to remember him only pitching one or two times after that, both terrible. He never recovered.
If I remember correctly, we had a big lead, left the pitcher in until he allowed the tying or winning run to reach 2nd.
I thought Polk left him in the entire time. Wanted him to work his way out of the jam.
Looks like Wilson gave up 4 hits after getting two out, then Valentine gave up 4 more hits and a walk.
