No. They are implying that, because they are a power, home-run hitting team out west, the humidity will allow them to hit even more, whereas we play in it all the time, so if we're not a strong HR-hitting team, we won't be helped as much as they will.

But it's BS. Maybe...just maybe the humidity could make the ball travel an extra yard, but one must also consider the impact the heat and humidity will have on the hitter's power. When you're not used to it, that humid heat can take a lot of the starch out of you.

I'm born and mostly raised on Mississippi, but have lived in Cali since the 80's. Every time I've flown home in the summer, when the door to the jet is opened and I step out, it's almost like running into a wall. Mississippians get used to it, but when you live in a place like Cali, your body is no longer acclimated. It can take a while to get used to. I suspect energy lost to this will more than offset any potential advantage Stanford might realize from increased ball travel.

Humid air is lighter because water as a gas is two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen compared to the heavier combo of paired nitrogen and oxygen atoms so the more H[SUB]2[/SUB]O per m[SUP]3[/SUP] the less other heavier molecules.

Humidity factor sounds kind of like a defensive mechanism and probably won't be the difference in winning or losing. Stanford has a lot of baseball tradition and pride. That will probably matter more

It sounds more like "grasping for straws" or "looking for rays of hope" to me.

Agree, seems like good folks, but they wouldn't know what to do with a batch of tater tots if we put them on a periodical table for them.

I have cousin who has a PHD in physics from Stanford. He is really smart but don't have much coming sense.

Are they interested in the fact that we are 35-5 at home?

This. Or the fact that Miami came in here a hot home-run hitting team and hit 10(?, 85 for the season) in our regional alone but only 1 in the game that mattered...against Plumlee who was just putting it where they couldn't barrel them up. Doesn't matter what the air is like if the pitcher can locate.
