Welp since we barely have any sports topics...

I have 3 cats. That's right, 3. My in-laws have been making snide remarks about me having cats and telling me I should have a dog. Now, we all live in a city where we all have less than 500 sq. ft of actual lawn. I grew up with dogs in Mississippi. My dogs had roughly 400 acres of woods to run around and be dogs... chase rabbits, eat frogs, go hunting with me, etc... and would come in at night and fall asleep in front of the couch. These dogs were happy and lived long and healthy lives.

After graduating from state I moved from city to city and lived in apartments and a couple houses, I met my wife and slowly accumulated these furballs over 6 years. I never wished to get a dog since I lived in an apartment and spend roughly 70-90 hours/week focused on finishing my doctorate and couldn't justify adopting one.

Currently, my in-laws have been real ******** with their remarks. They have 3 terribly trained dogs that they keep in crates most of the day and walk when they have the time at night. They say they could "never have a cat because of cleaning a litter box", yet they are picking up hot dog **** on walks and in their yards.

I can't wait to move away from them and get a few hundred acres.

Pack, lets hear it, what animals do you have?

1 cat and she's strictly an insider.

I'd like to have a dog, but I can't let them run loose here, and I don't want to keep one cooped up in the house all the time. Putting a dog in a crate for any length of time is like putting them in jail.

A vicious German Shepherd girl named Kota. Since we didn’t get a boy, you can probably figure out how we came up with Kota.

So keep your fingers on the outside of the fence if you want to keep your fingers.

Seems like a thread regarding your disgust for your in laws

We have a dog and 2 fish (that I think are still alive). My son and daughter both have a small fish tank in their rooms.

And that is CERTAINLY a silver lining of the pandemic - it keeps the in laws and their annoying dogs away.

3 indoor/outdoor cats that are well trained to come inside when it gets dark. We adopted a feral cat recently but are keeping him inside because he will stay out for several days if we let him out. Still trying to figure out how to train him to come inside when told to. Hopefully a few months of watching the other cats will teach him. It's strange because when he is outside he is skittish and has to be coaxed back in once he gets hungry, but when he is in he is affectionate and will sleep on our bed.

I think most people who dont like cats have never had a well trained, affectionate one.

1 dog, 2 cats.
Maddie is a rescue, 7 yr old Border Collie/Catahoula mix. She is the most amazing frisbee dog ever. Loves the water too.
Cats are useless.

A yorkie poodle mix named Baxter. A dog who I truly loved until he jumped into the bed this morning and landed directly on my foot with the worst case of gout known to man.

People pay to have dogs DNA tested? Even the dogs that are 103% everything?

That’s bigger than one dog

The DNA tests go back a few generations. After a few generations they only give you an estimate of what type of dog (mountain, herding, etc....) The test was gift from my fiance's parents. According the the print out I received it goes like this...

Grandparents on one side were a pit bull and a pit bull mix
other side a red heeler and lhasa apso mix.

Does the lab bark all proper and snotty, look down his beak at the beagle for his crude behavior, and what about those jacked up teeth?

One black lab. He's almost 12 but still in pretty good shape. But I know his days are numbered so that is a bummer.

A herd.

1. 14 year old Border Collie female mama
2. 10 year old Border Collie male from the 2nd litter
3. 10 year old Border Collie/Black Lab mix male (daddy was Border Collie from the 1st litter)
4. Pitbull male, probably around around 2. He adopted us. Showed up at our place with an indoor extension cord tied around his abdomen so tight its a wonder he was still alive and he was all cut up. We figure he was the runt of the litter and ******** down the road were using him to train fighting dogs. You see pitbulls and german shepards all over the place on leashes about a mile down the road from me. He was VERY skiddish of us but we were able to trap him and cut the cord off of him. After a year he is still pretty skiddish but in the last couple of months has finally become addicted to getting petted.

And for anyone that has never had Border Collies, whatever you hear about how smart they are is true. There were certain words we had to quit saying around ours and start spelling. That only lasted a couple of days before they figured out that **** too!

3 dogs.
its 1 too many. we never wanted to have more than 2, but really 17ed up the timing.

One is almost 17 years old. My wife and I got her when she was at college in New Orleans. Terrier shepherd mix that used to be a deadly hunter of all woodland creatures.
Another is a terrier mix thats 6 years old and acts like she is 15 for most of the day.
Then we have a 18 month old hound mix who is absurdly active, playful, and has the an obnoxiously persistent personality for attention.

14 months ago, we figured the oldest was on the way out the door and we thought a few months of 3 would work out. Well apparenly she saw the puppy and said '17 you people, im sticking around!' because she is still playing with the puppy and going on walks.

Oh, and we have a horse, but he is for my wife and kids. I mostly just give him carrots and tell him he 17ed up my retirement plans.

1 German Shorthair Pointer (GSP) named Bruno. Sharp as a tack, and minds way better than the kids or wife.

Oh and my youngest has a 7” long leopard gecko, you should see that thing strike at a live cricket.

11 year old 20 pound cat. He’s some variant of a Maine coon. Has polydactyly, the ‘Hemingway cat’ feature. 3 thumbs on each front paw and 2 each on the back, for 26 total toes. 3yo Newfoundland, probably about 120 pounds. Just picked up an 80 pound Great Pyrenees from a big dog rescue this afternoon.
