Peter Burns posted that today was Bear Bryant's birthday and told his favorite story about the Bear. Apparently, The Bear had been an assistant at Vandy and had just been named Head Coach at Arkansas. On his drive to Fayetteville, December 7th, 1941 he heard that Pearl Harbor had just been bombed and rather than going to Arkansas, he turned around and joined the Navy instead. Couldn't help think how that attack probably changed the future of SEC Football. Bear may or may not have ended up at Bama had he gone to Fayetteville and we would have played in the Sugar Bowl and most likely had our first National Championship.
For the youngsters, or those that stayed out too late drinking last night, we were unable to get back from California in time for the Sugar Bowl due to the train traffic being disrupted as a result of the attack. I had not heard the Bear portion of this story, so apologies if German.
