What MAGA SHOULD Mean

After saying America is not the greatest country in the world, he then sketches why we used to be. I don't care what your politics are, this is what MAGA should be restoring.

you know, this monologue is about 10-12 years old. That would take us back to Obama, trump and Biden admins. So, while MAGA and it's goals might have a place in his positions so do the other administrations....and congresses.

The point was that his criticisms are even more true today. But, yes, that litany reflects disappointments from the Bush and Obama years. True then, and things have gotten even worse.

Do you agree with that monologue about how we used to be and what we've lost?

His commentary was directed more at the growing laziness and apathy of the American people at large, and how other countries have passed us by in that regard.

I watched it years ago..and if I recall, I agree with some things and disagree with others. some of how we used to be weren't all good...racism for one example. I think we're much better with that now - still have a ways to go. imo we've lost a lot...education, family, patriotism, religion (although that seems to be coming back).

As a people, we've become more government dependent now, and we play one group against others (billionaires vs all, for example), Republicans vs democrats, straight vs gay...some of that always existed but IMO much worse now.

One thing for sure, we can always do better, but we don't seem to have the wherewithall to put aside differences and work for the common good.

Just read this board. Some people try to have reasonable discussion and are immediately referred to as idiots, racists, etc. There's very little recognition that reasonable people can disagree....that sort of defines US ( a little off topic I know)

Do me a favor. Watch it again from the cued point. It's about a minute. My expectation is that you will agree with it. But if that's wrong, I'd be curious which parts you disagree with.

I agree with most of the rest of what you said in that comment.

ok watched again....lots to talk about, but first I'll disagree with the statement that the US isn't the greatest country in the world. I've visited, mainly for work, about 26 countries and I haven't found one better.

I don't think we've declared a war on poor people. I think we haven't yet found a way to eliminate poverty even though we've spent a lot of money trying to do so. We're spending even more than ever today and not making a significant amount of progress - although I think poverty rate today is as low as it has ever been. I agree with his thoughts about how we've solved a lot of problems..

."we fought wars for moral reasons", I would tend to agree, although in my lifetime we seem to have diverted somewhat...Vietnam, Iran we fought for political..and the politicians who started them - or inherited them - fought politically instead of militarily.

"we took care of our neighbors"..think that's generally true, but one step further...we took care of our families. we didn't have all these social programs to fall back on.

Are still inventing things..although for some reason we're villifying the people that invented these and made money from their inventions. same with not making intelligence inferior - although I'm not totally sure what he means by that statement

"we didn't identify ourselves by who we voted for in last election"...boy do we now. And worse we insult, berate, and discard those who voted differently than us. Cancelling someone because of who they voted for....this board is a prime example of this...no regard for the opinions of anyone who might have a different point of view.

"we were informed"...it's more than that IMO, we believed the people that were informing us. People trusted Kronkite, Murrow and the like. Who do we have like that...Hannity, Scarborough..we get our news from Maher, Kimmel, Colbert...biased pov...when it comes to being informed, we're in trouble. The newspapers are on life support, magazines like time and Newsweek..are shells of their former selves...Even our elected officials can't be believed anymore...either party

Finally, not in the video, but MO. We spend so much time hating trump that we've lost the forrest for the trees. None of our elected officials seem to be looking forward. We have significant, but solvable, issues in front of our faces...taxes, immigration, healthcare, the debt just to name a few....but we're spending our time debating things in the weeds. And again, it's both parties. For years, we haven't had serious bills presented that provide sufficient "meat" for realistic discussion. Our Congress both house and Senate need overhauls, but we don't seem to have the leadership with the moral courage to take on the task.

I feel for the generation after next - my grandchildren and yours. They're not going to have the same kinds of opportunities in work, finance, lifestyle as we did. And if we continue down the path we're on - villifying others with different points of view - our problems will surface even faster. It used to be that diversity of thought was a good thing. Not anymore. Which young person would dare to express an opinion different from the norm?

OK off the soapbox...

I guess the infrastructure bill and chips act....or the inflation reduction act, which lowered my prescription bills weren't serious
not sure if you're responding to me or someone else, but...ICA didn't do a thing for me...but I'm glad it helped lower your prescription costs. Of course, according to experts, the ICA did contribute to our high inflation, and of course, the deficit and debt. Every action has some consequence.

It did, then Trump gutted it so my prescription costs went up....and inflation went down AFTER it passed.

Oh, how's that debt and deficit doing right now
